  1. Always wanted to try shooting a Garand. The club I used to belong to was a CMP member and had monthly CMP match shoots. Went a couple of times to watch. They actually had 6-8 club owned Garands that you could rent with enough ammo for a match plus a few for practice for $50. It was on my list to do but never got around to it, then we moved. A good friend (retired Marine) that no longer had guns but talked fondly of his Garand he carried post Korea, even would rattle off the serial number. I took him to a couple of gun shows and he always had fun talking to the guys that had Garand for sale. I figured I would challenge him to a match, him an expert shot that hadn't shot a Garand in 50+ years and me never having shot one. Good luck with your find, give us a range report.

  3. I had some magazines from a Ruger SR-22 that were not feeding well after using them with some particularly waxy rounds. I cleaned them with some water based gun solvent/cleaner and stopped using that brand of ammo. When I moved to NY after college Ieft most of my guns with my father including a Hi Standard .22 that was my first handgun (bought while I was in college). I finally retrieved it after I got my carry permit in NY 35 years later. It sat with 2 loaded magazines all that time. Still feed and worked perfect when I started shooting it again and still does now 50 years after I bought it.
  4. The Elephant Gun was used by British and German Armies to break the stalemate in the trenches. The British used them to eliminate German snipers
  5. Name the movie. I don't know. Clarence Leroy "Lee" Van Cleef, Jr.
  6. I picked up some .380 and .45 in Jonesborough today. They had some aluminum 9mm, lots of .40, more .380 and .45. Didn't ask about .223 or 5.56 I have plenty already. Wanted to pick up some .25 and maybe some .32 for a friend but they were out already. Forgot to ask on .38 or .357 I might have bought some if they had it. They didn't really have any signs but the prices on the shelf had been marked down to 1/2 price.
  7. Who is that mask man?
  8. Single action .22 revolver to compete with the Ruger Wrangler.
  9. Any ideas on the rifle?
  10. Yea as soon as I posted it I thought that didn't look like the right side but wasn't sure. Sorry about that. I'll roll out the big guns to make amends.
  11. Got our TN drivers license and car plates our first week after we moved. Not because I was in a rush to buy a gun, I just wanted be from TN not NY.
  12. Couldn't find something appropriate for Pearl Harbor so will jump ahead in the war.
  13. Sears Ad, they use to be a profitable company.
  14. I decided I had as many guns as I needed about a year ago. I have only bought two since then
  15. No idea what these two vehicles are but they look interesting.
  16. I have never shot the 41 but bought my Mark V SS Target soon after it came out and love it. I added a rail and a red dot. I have sold a Hunter and a standard Target for Ruger by letting friends try out mine. My favorite .22 handgun.

  18. You're probably right. When I still lived in the socialist state of NY I was at a friends house for dinner that is liberal but still owns one .22 that he shoots, so nut a complete lost cause. I had been to a gun show earlier in the day with a mutual friend but purposely didn't bring it up so we wouldn't get into the whole gun discussion. My wife makes an off hand comment that I had been with Brian earlier in the day and the conversation went downhill from there. He asked how many handguns I had and I told him 4, he wanted to know why. In NY you have to have a carry permit to even own a handgun and they are listed on a card you have to carry with you. Another friend at the same gathering reached in his wallet and hand the host his gun card, the whole side was full, as it was being handed back he flipped it over and the other side was mostly full also. That ended the conversation, he was outnumbered. Just to stay on topic. I have decided I have "almost" enough guns, not real interest in selling any I have. I'm lucky in that my son has given me orders that anything I decide to sell I have to clear with him first to be sure he doesn't want it. When no relatives or friends are interested in can be a problem. An acquaintance of mine in Ohio that was a big gun collector died earlier this year. His gun safe was a special built room that was probably about 15'x20' that was furnished in leather easy chairs and a large desk and lots of guns on the walls and cabinets (around 500 was his estimate). They all went to a very large gun auction. I unfortunately didn't hear about him passing till the guns were gone, I would have made the trip just to watch. He did have one gun that my Dad sold him I might have tried to buy.
  19. Nice hunting car
