Last time I hunted squirrel for meat instead of pest control was 50+ years ago with my grandfather. He always used a shotgun, I thing 12g and I would use a .22 with shorts. He would kid me about it constantly. He would always get enough for supper, I got nothing. I do remember the occasional shotgun pellet but not many so my Grandfather must have been good at finding them. I remember pan fried squirrel as being very good but never learned to dress them out and my wife said she would only cook them if I cleaned them. I would be afraid to use .22 long for tree shots, the bullet can travel a long ways unless you are in a very isolated area.

Not sure where I got this from so it may have been here. Just found it on my desktop and it bares repeating. Showed it to my wife and she sent it to her cousin who forwarded it to her all ladies shooting club.

There are more, I have thought for a few years we should have a gathering but never acted on it. I have met a few for lunch and one I shoot with regularly before the lock down. -

"I own a Musket for home defense"
Jeb48 replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Back when I was still in NY, back before they became a complete police state (SAFE ACT), I knew a guy from seeing him selling at flea markets for years. When you could still do private sales he always kept a few long guns in his camper with a small sign, if you were interested he would take you in. I had some long guns from my Dad's that I didn't want so I asked if we could do some trading and was invited to his house. First thing I saw when I was invited into his single wide house trailer was a small canon with something over an inch bore sitting beside his easy chair pointing at the door. He said that was his first line of defense. -

I haven't done much comparing. Did Skype a few years ago and it was ok. My wife uses FaceTime but that is Apple only. My wife started using Zoom for a weekly meeting after everyone was told to stay home and seemed to work so I got an account and setup a gathering of 3 friends and it worked so well we schedule lunch together once a week now. We used Zoom on Easter to visit with family, 6 of us in 3 states, worked good. Zoom has a free mode that is unlimited time for two people but limits you to 40 minutes for more than 2. They gifted me unlimited on my first 2 gatherings. The latest they cut us off at 40 minutes but we could restart the meeting and continue. I think one level up from free is $15/month or $150/year, unlimited time and up to 100 people.

I didn't realize the Soviets had similar helmets to the Germans.
