Don't miss out on the hi-cap mags
Jeb48 replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I went the other way. I have plenty of 30 rd mags that are still in the original packaging. I have a few 10 and 20 round mags because I like my guns loaded in the safe and the shorter mags store easier (regular mags are on the safe shelf to grab). I decided it would be a good idea to have a few more 10 round mags just in case. I think I may be right because a lot of 10 round mags were out of stock already, mine should be here next week, had to pick my second choice of manufacturer and color. -

My heat pump does well for the majority of the days but have an LP furnace and 500 gal underground tank for back up when it gets to cold or if the heat pump fails. The tank also powers the demand hot water heater and a fireplace. We normally use around 100 gal of LP a year and do a Summer refill, but nice to have the reserve if needed. The LP fireplace has saved us in a couple of power outages since it doesn't need AC, we have a remote control that you can set the temperature you want and lay it so it points at the fireplace and it turns the fireplace on and off as needed and heats most of the house if it isn't too cold. I can run the furnace off my portable generator for longer outages or colder temperatures.

Was talking to some Ham friends today and asked what they thought of 2 meter. They said very limited in range but would get you out 20 miles or so. I said what about repeaters? They said very few repeaters were setup with generators and the battery backups were limited in how long they would last in a major power outage.

Who Here Has A Generator, And It Saved Them ?
Jeb48 replied to billt's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I have 2 small inverter generators, a Honda 2000i and a Wen 1250. I have the house wired so I can run most of the 120v circuits in the house on the Honda. We have to be selective on what we actually turn on but it sips gas, unlike the big whole house units. I got the Wen for the occasional dry camping to top off batteries but it also service as a back up to the Honda and with even more selective balancing would get us through a length black out with even less gas. I do get tempted with to get an automatic unit that was big enough to run most of the house. Hooked up to my 500 gal lp tank it would be nice. -

UPS and FedeX refuse to come up my drive if there is any sign of ice or snow on it. UPS delayed 3 days in a row for something I really needed. I finally called and complained and they connected me to the driver that was several miles away and he told me that it was company policy if there was any chance of sliding off the drive and he could be fired or at least chewed out if he slid off a drive. Said if I was ok with it, he would deliver the package after he was finished for the day in his personal truck, and he did.

I finally made a list with when I renewed each group or sent money. TN Firearms - renewed 2021 Second Amendment Foundation - renewed 2021 Gun Owners of America - renewed 2021 NRA - Paid up till 2025 - I hope they have things in better shape before I need to decide if I send them some more money. That is probably the order I would subscribe if I was tight for money, at least today.

I seem to collect podcasts, I am so far behind. When I was driving more I could almost keep up but now I just get further and further behind, I have dropped a few but her are some I can't give up on. Only gun related podcast that I still listen to is Black Man With a Gun. Not black but I find most of his podcast very interesting and he has a pleasant voice. I skip the shows that are really aimed at blacks but have learned some interesting black history and a lot of his shows are just good gun advise. I have been listening off an on since I saw him speak at a gun rally/march in Albany NY about 8 years ago. For fun I like several different shows from Decoder Theater. It is a Canadian radio theater group that do new shows in the style of old time radio dramas. Mostly SciFi and mystery/detective. A lot of their old shows are online plus they do a new show every 2 weeks, usually a multipart story. A relatively recent add to my list is Stuff You Should Know. Long running show with more than a thousand episodes available. Two guys pick a topic and research it and talk about it for 15 minutes to an hour. This is another fun one but is hit and miss if I like the shows, Everything Icebox. They have a variety of story lines, humor to light horror. The best on and off series is about a small radio station in Northern Wisconsin complete with fake ads for the bait shop and other local shops. They also have a real talk show podcast on the stream that I didn't like and skip. I use to have a few more but found I never got around to listening to them so dropped them.

Finally remembered to look through my screw collection when I was in the shop this afternoon but came up close but no cigar. Had a nice nickel plated, right head, slot and length but #10. Even looked through the misc drawer. Sorry
