Best NFA dealer in Chattanooga area?
Whisper posted a topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
After years of threatening to do it, I'm finally going to get a few NFA items. I want a couple of suppressors and I want to make an SBS and an SBR. I understand that the easiest (maybe not cheapest) way to do this is through establishing a trust, as this eliminates the need for photos and CLEO sign-off, and that there are some places (Silencer Central, Silencer Shop, maybe others) that will do this for you online. I'm thinking I'd like to get my trust set up and then get my suppressor paperwork submitted, and while I'm waiting, file papers for my SBS and SBR, since I understand that waiting times for SBS and SBR approval are much shorter. Is this a reasonable plan? Finally, who's the best dealer to work with in the Chattanooga area? (Doesn't have to be within the Chattanooga city limits; I have read positive things about other dealers in the general vicinity.) And by "best," I mainly mean cheapest and fastest. Thanks, Whisper -
This is Gypsy the Wonder Dog, dressed up for Christmas. She turned 8 this July. People frequently ask what breed she is, and I tell them with confidence she's a purebred brown dog. There's surely a good bit of Doberman heritage there, but it's mixed with some other stuff. Cheers, Whisper

The problem with this survey is that four of the eight proposals listed are described so nebulously that it's not possible to judge whether they would be useful or detrimental to honest citizens. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details, and four of these proposals are described so minimally that they could have been developed by Satan himself, but cloaked with vagueness to hide their true evil intent. Maybe I'm too skeptical in my old age, but I find it unlikely that this is an accident. Cheers, Whisper

The XL and the Macro have the same barrel length and handle pretty much the same, but you're going to get less velocity from bullets thanks to the "compensator" on the Macro. The P365 is already a little gun; I don't want any features that will slows the bullets down even more. Cheers, Whisper

It looks like 9mm and 556 is not worth the money to load
Whisper replied to 2agood's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I don't reload 9mm or .223 because I can buy it by the case for pretty much what I put into components, but for other calibers -- I load .32, 38, .357, .44 Sp, .45 ACP, 10mm, .308, .300 AAC, .270 Win -- it's worthwhile. Cheers, Whisper -
I looked over the survey and responded to those parts to which I could...which wasn't all that many. There are far too many vague or even meaningless terms used here. And, as is usually the case when surveys ask about red flag laws, this one just wants to know about support for red flag laws, without specifying whether these red flag laws would have adequate safeguards to protect people from being falsely accused and to allow people who are wrongly accused to have their firearms returned promptly. Without those assurances, red flag laws will simply be a tool for harrassment of gun owners. Whisper

Yep, looks like it. Nice idea, for those lovers of the Macro. I prefer the XL myself, but more options are usually a good thing. Cheers, Whisper

Man, I love that 629.

Golden State Arms did in fact sporterize a lot of these guns and convert them to .308s with Pachmayr white line recoil pads like the one shown in your photo. The new chambering should be marked on both the barrel and on the magazine. I don't have one of these -- I'm a K31 guy myself -- but I understand they are nice rifles. GLWS. Cheers, Whisper

That Stand Manufacturing DP-12 looks remarkably like an M-1 Garand.... Cheers, Whisper

ATF bans import of simuntions for civilian usage

Exactly the reason you'd think -- harrassment of people who want to practice defensive training. -
I find this highly unlikely, given that Biden needs a candidate on his reelection ticket who has some appeal to black voters. Newsom is, I believe, being prepped as the 2028 candidate. What's the source of this rumor? Whisper

The Dorr brothers steal from gun-rights believers and from pro-life groups. They're vermin. Do a search for their names and you'll be disgusted. Whisper

New update from my sister: The gun is back from FN, who says they couldn't find anything wrong with the gun. It still doesn't work. FN suggested trying different kinds of ammo. Neither my sister nor her husband can get it to cycle reliably, so I don't think the problem is limp-wristing or anything like that. I note that there's a Reddit thread on FN Reflex failures to feed:
-
She couldn't get it to run, and it's been sent back to FN. Not an encouraging beginning. I'll report back when I learn more.
-
My sister just got one. First outing at the range was not encouraging -- many failures to feed. She's going to tear it down, lube it thoroughly, and try again. Whisper

Rats, I should have checked the classifieds earlier today. Someone's going to get a nice gun. Cheers, Whisper

Rats. The other end of the state. You're not coming to See Rock City anytime soon, are you? Cheers, Whisper

Well, if you never have to use it, you could carry a .22 Short derringer and not feel undergunned, right?

Welcome. Glad to have you here. Cheers, Whisper
