Proof that Concealed Carry permit holders live in a dream world
Whisper replied to Ron_TN's topic in General Chat
Yeah, I've seen this video before. It doesn't "prove" anything except that the network is backing the efforts of those statists who want to disarm honest people, Disgusted, Whisper -
Great news; I'll be going. Whisper

You can get spare fiber optic rods from Dawson. If a rod in a front sight does break, replacing it is a three-minute job requiring only a pair of fingernail clippers and a cigarette lighter. HTH, Whisper

My one experience there involved stopping by one afternoon last year on the way back from one of the Murfreesboro gun shows. I had found a pink Tennessee Arms Co. AR lower receiver and had decided it would be fun to build my daughter a pink AR. I stopped in at On Target to see if they had any pink Magpul AR parts. An arrogant short guy behind the counter informed me contemptuously that Magpul had never made any pink products. I assured him that they had, and he asked, "So, what's the catalog number?" Yeah, sure, I memorize the catalog numbers of every gun or gun part that interests me. So, while I was at the store I decided to look around, and over on a rack of Magpul accessories I discovered some Magpul iPhone cases in -- you guessed it -- pink. (No pink AR parts, though.) I thought about pointing it out to the little prick behind the counter but decided it was not worth my time. Haven't been back. And I bought the pink Magpul parts I needed online. Maybe I will give them another try. Cheers, Whisper

I would love to see a one strike and you're out threat from the NRA. One bad vote and they will work hard against you, Yep. That would be the Debra Maggart case. She turned toward the dark side, and the NRA abandoned her. Most excellent. Part of the problem is that our Republican supermajority is mostly lukewarm on the Second Amendment. I think the next election may be a good time for the NRA to exert some influence in TN. Cheers, Whisper

Staying with Nikon is a good idea because likely most of your lenses will still be usable on digital bodies. (Same reason I stayed with Canon when I switched from film to digital in 2006.) I am not familiar with all the Nikon models; my advice would be to go to a camera store and look at several bodies to see what you think about the size, handling, etc. If you are going to make poster-size prints you will need a higher megapixel sensor than you'll need if you aren't printing above 11x14. The camera store can give you some advice on this; like I said, I'm not up to date on Nikon models since I am still a Canon shooter. HTH, Whisper

Shotgun match at Middle TN Shooters Club 2-1-15
Whisper replied to El Guapo's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
I used a drill bit to determine that the size I needed was .060 and ordered some Truglo rods from Midway. They arrived yesterday and I've repaired the sight. Looking forward to the match on Sunday. See you there. Cheers, Whisper -
Shotgun match at Middle TN Shooters Club 2-1-15
Whisper replied to El Guapo's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
OK, I have registered for the match. As someone whose previous shotgun experience has been bird hunting and skeet, what equipment do I need for the match? Shotgun, sling, eye/ear protection, shells, and a shell bag? Anything else? Thanks, Whisper -
Very helpful. I'll vote for Knight and against both Browns. Thanks, Whisper

Shotgun match at Middle TN Shooters Club 2-1-15
Whisper replied to El Guapo's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
I'd like to shoot in this match. If anyone can help me find a fiber optic rod for a front sight on a Winchester SX2 Practical Tactical, please let me know so I can get my shotgun back in operation. Thanks, Whisper -
John Milius, the screenwriter and film director, deserves a vote. Edie P. Fleeman is a former womens smallbore prone national champion and a strong advocate for teaching women to shoot and for teaching gun safety in the classroom. And she's from my former home state of NC. I'll vote for Steve Hornady and Robert Nosler just because I've fired so many of their bullets over the years. Not a fan of Robert K. Brown either. Cheers, Whisper

I have a Winchester SX2 Practical Tactical with the fiber optic front sight. Unfortunately, the fiber optic rod has fallen out or broken and I need to replace it. I can't find anyplace online that offers the rod as a part, and the manual doesn't say what diameter rods it uses so I can't just order rods online and cut them to length. I'd like to get the sight fixed so I can use this gun in the shotgun match at Middle TN on 1 Feb 15. Anybody know for sure what diameter rod I need or where I might find one in time for the match? Thanks, Whisper

Yes, you didn't read the letter or my post very carefully. The passage I quoted deals with AR pistols that have the SiG brace and are shouldered. It doesn't say anything about the legality of shouldering AR pistols that don't have the SiG brace....which I suspect is the great majority of AR pistols. I realize this letter is a blow to SiG brace owners, but it doesn't mean that all AR pistols on the earth are now illegal to shoulder fire. Of course, BATFE may be planning to move in that direction.... Cheers, Whisper
-
I don't see anything in this letter that suggests all AR pistols are now illegal to shoulder. "If this device [meaning the SiG brace] ... is assembled to a pistol and used as a shoulder stock...." But it will be interesting to see if they try changing their interpretation of the law in other details as regard AR pistols.

I've been in there also and bought some inconsequential items. I agree they are friendly folks and I will be back. Cheers, Whisper

AR-15 barrel and gas block?
Whisper replied to z0mbies fear me's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you know you want a free-float rail, you might consider a low-profile gas block. If you are free-floating then you can mount the front sight on the rail and not the gas block. You can also use a rail that's longer than carbine length if for some reason you decide you want more rail space. I don't know of any name-brand gas blocks that are bad. Others may have different experiences than mine. If you decide to get a railed gas block instead of a low-profile, make sure the rail height is correct for your receiver. HTH, Whisper -
If anybody knows where I can find a couple of pink PMAGs for my daughter, please drop me a line. I know that Widener's has pink metals ones but I want PMAGs. Thanks, Whisper

S&W Model 27, 3.5" barrel, blued with target grips. I still see them on auction sites occasionally but they are priced like museum pieces. Maybe I can afford one someday. Cheers, Whisper

80 year old NC gun registry law repealed
Whisper replied to Hershmeister's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yes, it does, since the requirements for a NC concealed carry permit are more stringent than NICS background checks. Cheers, Whisper -
80 year old NC gun registry law repealed
Whisper replied to Hershmeister's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sorry, but you are mistaken. NC has for several years now allowed a concealed carry permit to eliminate the need for a pistol purchase permit. If you don't have a concealed carry permit, you need a purchase permit for a handgun. Look at the attorney general's website or the website for Grass Roots North Carolina, the state-level RKB organization, if you want to confirm this. I lived in NC until moving to TN in February and I well recall how happy we were when the change in state law came about. This latest change affects only Durham County, which was the only county with handgun registration. As the article suggests, the law was implemented to harass black citizens. I'm glad it's gone. NY Times admits that guns are not the problem.
Whisper replied to Raoul's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Note that this is not the NYT saying this -- it's a guest columnist. I would expect that the NYT is still fully committed to removal of RKBA. Whisper -
I have .a .45 FS and .45 Compact; a 9mm Pro, FS, and Compact; a .22; and a Shield 9. I'm a committed admirer of the M&P. No other semiauto fits my hand as well. Don't even own any Glocks any more. I was thinking about putting some Apex parts in mine but you'd be surprised at how smooth the triggers get after about 3,000 rounds. Cheers, Whisper

Never saw that trick before and I've played some cards. Can't begin to figure out how he did it. Thanks for sharing, Whisper

Do you think banning body armor will prevent criminals from using it? Home invasions, robberies, and other thuggish acts are already against the law, but does that prevent them from happening? Heroin and meth are already banned, too. How's that working out? The argument that "This product could be misused by criminals so we must ban it" is already employed by those who want more restrictions on gun ownership. It's disappointing to see that same philosophy at work on this forum. I hope you'll reconsider your position. Cheers, Whisper
