Yep. This whole thing gets more sordid every day. Does anyone know if the mayor's husband and the bodyguard's wife have left them or filed for divorce over this event? I've not seen any mention of them lately, although I've not followed every news report. This story about the secret cell phone pics probably has created some uncomfortable conversations at the two homes....

He's the competitive shooting version of a Fudd -- "As long as they're not banning the kind of gun I like, it's OK." Disgusted, Whisper

It's magnificent. I'm in. Cheers, Whisper

Welcome. If you're selling your gun to a store there won't be any paperwork other than the store recording your name and ID in case the gun turns out to be stolen. But any store will give you less than you could get selling the gun to another TN citizen, which is perfectly legal in TN. You'll see that the classifieds here contain many listings for guns, because it's legal way to sell guns to like-minded people. I'm confident that any question you could think up would be answered accurately and at no charge right here. Cheers, Whisper

I did a double take the first time I saw the name "Camp Guard;" it made me think of some SS scum with a Mauser K98....

Here's something interesting that I wish would get wider circulation http://reason.com/blog/2018/02/14/yes-this-is-a-good-time-to-talk-about-gu Also interesting -- last night on the radio I heard interviews with students and one girl said that if asked who would do a thing like that, kids would have identified the guy who became the shooter. I think that's probably the case most of the time. These people are known. Cheers, Whisper

Agreed. The gun doesn't work reliably; Sig should have some integrity and admit that instead of trying to pretend it's because of operator error. I still think Sig will likely fix the problems -- remember that the S&W Shield and the Springfield XDS were also recalled pretty much immediately after their introduction, and they got those guns straightened out. Making tiny 9mms work reliably is apparently a difficult task. But we know it can be done. When the post-recall versions get down to around the $425 mark, I expect I'll own one. Cheers, Whisper

You are reading it precisely right. Sig uses consumers as their QC testing. Inspires lots of confidence, doesn't it?

No, much later than that. Theodore Roosevelt carried a handgun, during his time as president and afterward. http://stuffnobodycaresabout.com/2013/06/01/as-president-theodore-roosevelt-carried-a-handgun/ There's a story that I think appeared in the American Rifleman detailing how, years after the Spanish American War, Roosevelt was being presented to the King of Spain, and as he bowed to the king, a handgun fell out of his coat. Yeah, we don't get presidents like that any more. Cheers, Whisper

My Review of a 1858 Starr DA revolver
Whisper replied to xtriggerman's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Fascinating info. I've known about the Starr for a long time but was unaware of its operational differences. Thanks for an informative review. Cheers, Whisper -
As I said before, there are forces actively working to ensure that the truth about this story does not get out.
-
Yeah, it seems unlikely to me that the dropped backpack story is true. The fact that we have no info about the type and caliber of the gun is also suspicious. Somebody in power doesn't want the truth known about this case.
-
Uh oh. This is the third review I've seen that mentions repeated failure to return to battery.

There are several dealers who are pricing them at $499, but none of them have any in stock. When you don't have any inventory you can price it as cheaply as you want. Cheers, Whisper
-
There are some on Gunbroker... with "buy now" prices of $899 and up. Yeah, I'm probably not that impatient. Cheers, Whisper

Yeah, I know, all the gun blogs are claiming that the Sig P365 is the greatest handgun in the history of the universe, no one will ever again buy a Shield or a Glock 43, etc. Two shooters of my acquaintance have already said they are selling their Shields because of the magnificence of the P365. Neither has ever seen or handled one. Corporate news releases and reviews by gun writers are fine, but not authoritative. I'm interested, but I'd like to see one myself before deciding if I want to buy it. So, has anyone here actually seen one? Any stores in Middle TN stocking them? Inquiring minds want to know.... Thanks, Whisper

Agreed. Note that the S&W 19-3 recommended by BHG123 is a K-frame gun. There are also K-frame .38s like the S&W 10, 15, 64, and 67. Cheers, Whisper

Welcome, Bill 5335. You've come to a good and friendly place where there is much knowledge available. Many people recommend that women begin shooting with revolvers, but I am not convinced this is the best plan. Semiautos have advantages in some areas, particularly for concealed carry. As you and your wife are new to shooting, I agree strongly with the idea that you should get some training and should try out as many guns as possible before you buy. This will make you much better informed when you are ready to purchase. You won't know what you like or dislike until you shoot it. I've been an NRA basic pistol instructor and am now Rangemaster certified, and in my experience there are few people who can't handle a 9mm semiauto unless they have a physical disability (like BHG123 with her wrists). This is important because any cartridge less powerful than a 9mm is, in my opinion, less than desirable for personal defense. (There are .380 adherents who will disagree.) Look carefully at 9mms, or at .38 Specials if your wife is absolutely sure she must have a revolver (which carries less ammunition and is less concealable than a semiauto.) The recommendation for a S&W Shield 9mm is excellent, and they are quite affordable right now. Good luck, Whisper

I did this once, back in the late 1980s, on an HBAR that I wanted to make a dedicated optics gun. Some of you are too young to remember, but in those days we didn't have the variety of low-profile gas blocks that are available now for AR builders. My modified HBAR gas block looked pretty much like the one that MP5_Rizzo has posted. Years later, when I converted the gun to a free-floater, low-profile blocks were plentiful, and I installed one of them. Cheers, Whisper

TRVTH. This right here sums up the entirety of my thinking on this project. No longer interested in one of these. The Sig P365, however, still continues to be a bright shiny object....
-
SHHHH! Keep quiet about this. The price on these little guns has already gone crazy and they are as scarce as honest politicians. Move along folks, nothing to see here, go look at that nice Glock 17 over there....
-
Yeah, don't need this now that I know what it is. Build your own AR pistol and you'll be better off...in fact, that's what I did. Twice already. Cheers, Whisper
-
Yeah, this is seriously interesting. Whatever it is they're doing, I can't imagine other companies won't replicate it within weeks. And, as for us home builders.... Cheers, Whisper

Man, that takes me back. When I was kid back in the 1960s in Big Spring, Texas, one day my dad took me into a gun shop and I saw a Bearcat. I fell in love with it immediately. It was the coolest handgun I had ever seen. Dad was not interested -- he shot pistols competitively and he mainly liked his 1911 and his Hi Standard .22 -- and the Bearcat was $64; an astounding sum that I knew I would never be able to raise myself. Decades later, when they started making them in stainless, I was tempted once more, but there's a lot of guns you can get for $600, and a Bearcat just never rose to the top of the list. Cheers, Whisper
