I have both the original Shield in 9mm and the Shield .45, which has the 2.0 features. I greatly prefer the heavily textured grip of the 2.0 to the grip of the original. The original is not bad, but it's just a little bit too slippery. If it's a gun you plan to keep for a long time, the 2.0 is probably worth the difference in price just for the much better grip texture. (Note -- My wife finds the 2.0 grip too rough for her liking and prefers the original, so my view on the grips is clearly not universally held. Make sure you fire both before you buy so that you can judge for yourself.) The only other difference of any significance between the original and the 2.0 Shields is the trigger -- it's much better in the 2.0. However, if you get the original, you can put an Apex sear in it for $40 and it is a vast improvement. If you can get the original Shield for more than $40 less than the 2.0, and you don't care about the grip texture, then that would be the way to go. That's my opinion, and it's worth every cent you paid for it. Cheers, Whisper

Another reason to go with the .300 Blackout -- muzzle blast is much less than that of a .223 or 5.56. Cheers, Whisper

Key lock safes are perfectly fine. You don't leave your gun in the safe when you're driving; you keep the gun easily accessible. The safe is for storing the gun when you can't carry it on you and have to leave it in the vehicle. As soon as you get back to the vehicle, you take the gun out of the safe.

My opinion is the same as that of DaveTN. I also wanted a rifle caliber in a small package I could carry in the car. An AR pistol in a pistol caliber really doesn't seem to offer much advantage over a standard pistol, except magazine capacity. On the other hand, an AR pistol in a rifle cartridge offers much more -- its has significantly greater effective range than a pistol caliber, larger magazine capacity than pistol, and better concealability than a rifle. I have AR pistols in .300 Blackout in both 10.5" and 7.5" barrels. I started with the 10.5 because I kept reading that the 7.5s were too short to cycle reliably, but I later found that not to be the case -- a 7.5" .300 Blackout AR pistol set up properly will run like a scalded cat. I'm also not a fan of the brace -- it offers nothing that I can see. A pistol buffer tube with a neoprene sleeve works fine and offers a lower chance of making your gun look like an SBR if you run into a traffic stop by Barney Fife. Cheers, Whisper

Turnbull would take the hideous giant lettering off the barrel. I hope....

You're wrong about the "Loose" movies but right about "Bronco Billy;" it's also a turkey. "The Mule" looks promising.

"Pink Cadillac." Those two orangutan movies. And "The Dead Pool," his last Dirty Harry movie, wasn't much good either. Early in his career he was in one of those Francis the Talking Mule movies, but he probably can't be blamed for that. Cheers, Whisper

Does the hammer fall all the way, or just to the half-cock notch? No matter which, if the hammer falls when you push the slide latch, this gun is wrong, and is either heavily worn or else has been customized by some gunjones who didn't know what he was doing. You'll likely need a new hammer. Cheers, Whisper

Fugitive in Montgomery County

I expect this is fake news. I don't believe there is any basis in TN law for issuing a "shoot on sight" order, and the liability risks involved would be phenomenal. -
Savage 220D single-shot 20 gauge; a Christmas present from my parents in 1964. I haven't shot it in years, but I still have it. Cheers, Whisper

Wrong advice here. "Defend yourself" is correct, and you should call 911, but when the cops get there, you should be eager to talk, though only in a limited way. "Oh, thank God you're here, officer. Thank you for coming. This man had a gun and made clear he was going to murder me, so I had to defend myself. Is EMS coming? My heart is racing and I'm feeling a little dizzy right now. I'd like to have a medic check me out. Once I'm feeling a little better I'll be happy to cooperate in the investigation, and I certainly want to sign a complaint against my attacker." Don't say any more, but don't say any less. Lawyering up at the first sign of the cops is not the sign of an honest man, and the cops will remember that. You want them on your side from the start. Something that's not the Kavanaugh confirmation

Great God in heaven, that rifle is really...evolved. I saw some astonishing amateur gunsmithing in the years when I worked in Sandland, but nothing that surpasses this. Speaking of which, both the rifle and the tile work strongly suggest to me that the photo was taken in the middle east/southwest Asia, although the Burris red dot sight sort of contradicts that. If this was genuine Sandland gunsmithing, the optic would likely be a piece of Russian junk, or else the bottom of an old Pepsi bottle. Do we know the source of the photo? Cheers, Whisper -

Man, that's some nice work. Thank you for sharing this. -
I'm pleasantly surprised by how well that turned out. Nice work.

Somebody deserves some jail time for this....

They were naive and gullible, but no one deserves to be murdered because of that. If they'd encountered a few more challenges during their lives, and perhaps encountered some less savory people prior to their bike trip, they would probably have known better. Their sheltered lives and lack of real world experience led them to make an extremely poor choice that cost them their lives. That's not the same as deserving to be murdered by homicidal maniacs.

The Robert Johnson story is that he was a struggling young guitar player who suddenly developed tremendous technical skills, and the word spread that he had sold his soul to the devil in exchange for his guitar playing ability. He was rumored to have met the devil at a Mississippi crossroads at midnight to transact the deal. A couple of his songs supposedly support this story -- "Crossroad Blues" and "Me and the Devil Blues." This incident is also described in the film "Oh Brother Where Art Thou." Cheers, Whisper

your own private gun range in city limits?
Whisper replied to ironsniper1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If you think that an underground concrete structure that's ballistically safe and has sound baffles, HVAC, lead abatement, concrete entrance, and steel door is cheap, you've not checked construction prices in the last couple of decades. -

You'd need to talk with your local officials and see what local codes and zoning regulations say, but I am pretty confident this would not be allowed. Why not buy 10 acres of land out in the country someplace and build a range there? Probably wouldn't cost any more that what you're talking about. Cheers, Whisper -
If your DL photo is fairly recent, they'll use that one on your carry permit. If it's more than a couple of years old, they require you to get a new photo.

Looks to me like they are launching German M1913 rifle grenades at somebody. I don't see a machine gun or a barn either.

I have Shields 1.0 and 2.0 and PPS M1 and M2. All four are fine guns, but the PPS M1 is the least ergonomic (just a little blocky) and has the heaviest trigger. The Shield 1.0 has an Apex trigger that is excellent. The Shield 2.0 and PPS M2 are totally stock although I may put fiber optic sights on them someday. I can't say I have a preference between the Shield 2.0 and the PPS M2, although I'd say the Shield 1.0 lags slightly behind those two if it has the stock trigger. With an Apex trigger it is equivalent to the 2.0 (with the exception of the more textured grip, which not everyone likes). I'd say one of these sights on a Shield 1.0 would be an extremely cool gun. Only reason I haven't done it is I'm afraid if i start liking red dots, I'd have a lot of full-size guns that would need optics. In the interests of science you should put one of these on a Shield 1.0 and file a report for all of us. Cheers, Whisper

Negatives: Both are professional politicians whose main interests are 1) enriching themselves at your expense, 2) enriching their family and supporters at your expense, 3) gaining power to enable them to do 1 and 2 more effectively. Positives: Blackburn is not a gun-grabbing leftist authoritarian. As far as I can tell, she has no other attributes.
