I'm confident the NRA is working with legislators to get bills introduced. As far as I know, the GOA has no staff working on anything at the state level. They do file some helpful lawsuits, though. I don't have a good sense of exactly what the TFA is doing as far as lobbying goes.

It does look interesting. Hope it's not $3,000....

Get your representative to introduce a bill. Without a bill coming to the floor for a vote, in both the House and Senate, nothing is changing.

Exactly how many rounds is the correct number to have in a self defense gun?

Websites can claim anything. Doesn't mean that any of it is true. Like Capbyrd says -- show me the data. Cheers, Whisper

Supreme Court agrees to hear gun rights case
Whisper replied to DaveTN's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree the justices don't (and certainly shouldn't) answer to Trump, but the case does have a lot to do with Trump, since the two justices he has appointed to the court may determine the final ruling. And it's entirely possible Trump will get to choose a third justice. -
That sounds a lot like the old Winchester .351 Self-Loading, which is a genuine obscure caliber these days.

Supreme Court agrees to hear gun rights case
Whisper replied to DaveTN's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Agreed. Trump works hard to think of stupid and pointless things he can do to alienate voters, but if his Supreme Court picks can demonstrate some respect for the Constitution, it will make up for a lot. -
Theoretically, I guess that could be right. But, for this particular gun to be the answer to the question, it would have to be in a jurisdiction that bans semiautos but allows detachable box magazines. Is there such a place?

Mil spec on a GI rifle is 4.5-5.5 pounds. Certainly it could be true that all the M16s you were ever issued had triggers outside of spec, but that doesn't change the point I was making: Who wants a fighting rifle with a 6.5-pound trigger?
-
If it genuinely doesn't harness energy from the fired cartridge in any way, it will be interesting to see what the lawyers say about it. But think about this: A decent AR will have a trigger less than 4 pounds. A really nice one will go much less. The best handgun DAO trigger I know of (Kellerman) is about 6.5 pounds. Do you want a fighting rifle with a 6.5-pound trigger? All this is just speculation, of course, and I guess we'll just have to see what happens when it's officially revealed. Maybe it will be cool.
-
If it uses gas or mechanical energy to cycle the action and eject the case, I'm guessing this will legally be considered a semi-automatic rifle. From reading the description, it's not clear to me this this is anything other than a DAO rifle.

Virginia State Senator and Gun Legistation
Whisper replied to owejia's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Although I would have some philosophical questions about the intent of such a bill, I get your point. And your question -- Why does TN, with a Republican supermajority, have no legislators with a genuine commitment to RKBA? -- is an excellent one. TN is one of the states where freedom should be advancing, but that's not happening. -
It's not just you.

I was just on the verge of looking for a plastic one and now this comes out. Might have to see if there's one I can handle at the Murfreesboro gun show later this month.

The Case for Continued Support of the NRA
Whisper replied to Whisper's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree with this. Unfortunately, most Demos have decided to ally themselves with the disarm-America movement, which makes it difficult for the NRA or any pro-freedom organization to endorse any of them. The NRA does seem willing to give high ratings (A-minus and above) to those Demos like Manchin and Heitkamp who have the courage to oppose the rest of their party on the gun issue. But they are few in number. -
The Case for Continued Support of the NRA
Whisper replied to Whisper's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Since all of the Democratic presidential candidates made clear that they wanted more gun control, and since their party platform condemns candidates who accept support from the NRA, exactly which Democratic presidential candidate did you want the NRA to endorse? Seriously -- name the candidate. -
https://www.ammoland.com/2019/01/pro-2a-nra-haters-fyi-for-you/#axzz5cPDspQQk This is an interesting article with some valuable background info on the current situation between the NRA and Trump: "And…love Trump or hate him, regardless of anything else he has done, if it were Hillary putting 2, possibly 3 judges on the USSC bench, the 2A would be dead in 10 years. That’s why NRA went all in with him. Not because he was a philosophically pure candidate on all of 2A, but because he was willing to put pro 2A judges on the bench, and because he could win. No one else on our side could, and the alternative—a Hillary presidency—would have been disastrous." The author of the article also offers some useful elaboration in the comments section. Yes, there are some idiotic remarks in the comments section...because it's the comments section. His most valuable point: RKBA organizations and supporters needs to find ways to work together instead of fighting among themselves. The anti-freedom groups are totally willing to collaborate with each other. Worthwhile reading. Cheers, Whisper

Question about selling "pre-ban" G 17 Mags
Whisper replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Selling them to someone in a state with a 10-round limit would pose some difficulties that you could perhaps surmount, depending on the state. But wouldn't it be much easier just to sell them in a free state? -
Agreed. There's mighty few people left today that can milk a cow. Doesn't mean they are morons. (I haven't milked one myself in nearly 50 years.) Times change, technologies change, routine daily tasks change.

Broward County Sheriff Facing Consequences from Failed Parkland Response
Whisper replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
The Blaze isn't exactly a fake news site, in that they don't totally manufacture all their stories, but they selectively report and omit facts that skew their stories. Media Bias Fact Check (medibiasfactcheck.com) is a great source for checking the reliability of various information sources. They call it pretty much as they see it, right or left, and they explain their reasons so you can decide if you agree they are valid. They rate the Blaze as "extreme right" with a "mixed" record on factual reporting. -
Senators Introduce New (2019) Assault Weapons Ban

This will be helpful. It provides a useful list of people to vote against for all eternity. -
Senators Introduce New (2019) Assault Weapons Ban
Whisper replied to TGO David's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
As I believe TGO David is suggesting, this and all other activities by the Enemies of Freedom should be vigorously opposed. Just because their efforts have failed in the past doesn't mean they always will. Remember that the first "assault" weapons ban passed, and its supporters would love to see it back in place. Remember also that the administration of our current president, who was once a gun-grabbing Democrat, has already imposed the bump stock ban. They are not our friends.
