I learned to drive in a gold 1963 Jeep Wagoneer with three-speed on the column. Some years later graduated to a black 1964 Plymouth Valiant with the slant-six engine and push-button automatic trans on the dash. Fun cars. Neither was fast but I'd love to have either one of them again. The Wagoneer had 4wd with manual locking hubs and would drive anywhere. Had a weak heater, though. The Valiant was a reliable as a stone.

K-frame snubs are great, A 2-inch Model 10 or 64 would be excellent. Or a 2-inch Model 15 if you can find one. They're not common. And if you can find a Model 12 (K-frame Airweight), they shave a good bit of weight. Cheers, Whisper

I've said this before, but the Shield .45 is one of the underappreciated gems of the handgun world. It handles great, shoots more accurately than is explainable, and carries almost invisibly. I think most people dismiss it because they think a .45 in a gun that size will be more difficult to control than it actually is. As you are discovering, Snaveba, that's not a valid concern for most shooters. Lack of mag capacity is the only reason the Shield .45 isn't my EDC. I do carry it when I need something more concealable than a full-size handgun. The fact that you pull low and left with both Shields but not the 1911 makes me think your trigger technique may need some attention. The pivoting trigger on the Shields works a little differently than the sliding trigger on the 1911. Check that you contact the trigger closer to the tip of your finger than to the joint. Many -- probably almost all -- of our nation's foreign policy problems would be fixed if we stuck to the maxim of "No better friend, no worse enemy." Unfortunately, many of our friends aren't sure they can depend on us to do what we say, and many of our enemies don't believe our threats and warnings, and for the same reason -- we don't always follow through. Trump does seem to have tried to address this in some ways, but he's limited by the fact that he's such a narcissistic, petulant blowhard. At least he's better than his 2016 alternative.

Yep. As a friend observed yesterday, there's probably a lot of Iranian military leaders who are wondering now if that upcoming trip to Iraq is really essential.... Back when I was over there (2006-2008), the big menace was Muqtada al-Sadr, leader at that time of the Mahdi Militia (now reformed under another name that I forget). He was also an excellent candidate for being droned, though we never did it, for reasons similar to why Suleimani was never hit. But I bet today he's traveling more on the down-low than he did last week.

You heard wrong. They openly discriminate against gun discussion and gun-related topics, to the point of deleting posts and shutting down groups without warning. I am confident this trend will accelerate.

I can't find anything on the state website about not being able to use centerfires during deer season. Even if you couldn't use centerfires, many coyotes are sent to hell by the .22 magnum. I don't know of anyone who has ever killed one with a shotgun -- it's hard to get that close -- but I guess it could happen. Cheers, Whisper

Same here. Mine wiggles. But the .45 Shield does not. Both are magnificent handguns.

In Texas, murder (not capital murder, which we in TN would call first degree murder) is a first degree felony. Texas Penal Code §12.32 prescribes these sentences: • Imprisonment in the institutional division for life, or • Imprisonment in the institutional division for not more than 99 years or less than five years with the exception of aggravated sexual assault, which adds a 25-year minimum punishment if the victim is younger than 6, or younger than 14 and the offense contained threats of serious bodily injury or death, or use of a deadly weapon.

I'm not expecting the sentence to be overturned. But in Texas the penalty for murder is 5 to 99 years, which gives a lot of leeway. All the news stations are saying "possible 99 year sentence," but nothing like that is going to happen. Should see get five years for needlessly killing a man who was sitting quietly in his own home watching a ball game and eating ice cream? I'd have a hard time finding fault with that.

I thought the same thing, until I reviewed the Texas penal code. Negligent homicide in Texas requires that the death be unintentional. She clearly and explicitly said on the stand that she intended to kill him. Her case does meet the penal code definition for murder (which I find surprisingly broad).

Oh ho. I have one of these also, and it's totally magnificent. New models have that awful safety and a 20" barrel. The pre-safety version with 16-inch barrel is rarer than an honest politician. Hold onto yours. Mine will never be for sale. My kids and I fired thousands of .38 Special SWCs through mine in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it is still going strong. And a .357 JHP out of a 16-inch barrel would be an impressive home defense round.

I don't remember the charge, but I have used Unique behind a 115-gr SWC with good results in the .32 Long and .32 Mag. The 115-gr bullet was originally used for the .32-20, I believe, but lots of shooters of the smaller-capacity .32 cartridges have found 115-gr to be an accurate weight for the caliber -- often better than the lighter weight bullets. I expect I have the notes around someplace, and if I can find them I'll pass along info on the powder charge. But I expect any cast bullet handbook would have some recommendations (and I probably got mine from the Lyman book or something similar). Cheers, Whisper

Excellent points all. In my original home state, there's a bill currently proposed that requires anonymous ex parte complaints (so the accused has no idea who complained and thus has no ability to argue against the charge) and specifies no process or timetable for having guns restored, but does specify that the police can assess storage fees against the accused while the guns are held in custody. Folks, these laws are written specifically so that they can be used to harass gun owners. And the sponsors know this.

I saw one at the gun show this weekend in Murfreesboro. It didn't feel that substantial to me -- the comparison with the Remington RP9 seems right. Of course I didn't shoot it, and that might change my opinion, but so far it hasn't called out to me.

An excellent point -- the .300 Blackout is my preferred choice for an AR pistol. I believe much better than the .223 in that size.

I was initially skeptical about the idea. but after I did some work on the range with one, I changed my mind. How much did you work with one before you decided they were a waste of money? What specifically did you not like about them?
