I don't buy or sell with anyone who has no reputation points, and I'm confident others here take the same precaution. I think it's fine for new folks to get involved in the classifieds if they pay to become benefactors, but I just feel better dealing with someone who's been around a little while. Cheers, Whisper

You can find Remington 870s that accept choke inserts. And the 870 is a candidate worth considering for any purpose for which a shotgun is suitable.

As I understand it, restricting the amount of the virus you are exposed to limits the severity of the infection. Some articles: https://www.healthline.com/health-news/wearing-a-mask-may-reduce-how-sick-you-get-from-covid-19 https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/prevention-cures/515754-wearing-a-mask-could-reduce-covid-19-severity https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-07-21/masks-help-avoid-major-illness-coronavirus https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-09-mask-immunity-covid-viral-dose.html

Red333, I'm glad you weren't killed. But your experience doesn't prove that masks don't work and COVID doesn't kill. It proves that COVID doesn't kill everyone that gets it, which has been known from the start of the pandemic. Also, if you were wearing a mask without fail and still caught the disease, it doesn't mean that the mask didn't work -- masks reduce the chances of infection, and limit severity, but they aren't a guarantee against infection...which was also known from the start. Maybe if you hadn't worn a mask you would have gotten an infection too serious to survive? We can't know. There are people every year who recover from heart attacks and cancer -- that doesn't mean that heart attacks and cancer don't kill. They kill millions every year. Like I said, I'm glad you survived COVID, but don't draw the wrong lesson from your experience. As for your last point, I like freedom of choice for everything, so I agree with you. Cheers, Whisper

I think I saw somebody using that first one in Mad Max: Fury Road.

I can't address how carefully Oswald's rifle was handled by police officers and other local and federal authorities before the rifle was tested, and who might or might not have tinkered with the scope or its mounts. But I've stood in the window of the book depository right next to the window where Oswald took the shot (you can't stand in the actual window now because it's blocked off by a plexiglass barrier). And, looking down into the street and wondering if, shooting from a rest, I could hit a man-sized target less than 90 yards away and moving almost directly away from me at a slow speed (11.2 mph), I feel confident I could. And I'm only a competent rifle shot. A good while back one of the TV networks hired a guy to fire a simulation of the Kennedy assassination to see if he could make the hits. He did. At this point none of the people who want to believe conspiracies will be convinced there wasn't one, and none of the people who want to believe the official report will be convinced it is inaccurate in its main conclusions. We're never going to know any more than we do now. Probably time to move on. Cheers, Whisper

I got a laugh out of the fact that S&W has been heavily promoting that they were going to unveil a new gun at 8 p.m. Eastern on March 15...and then Ruger announces the Max-9 several hours earlier, without previous notice. More choices are a good thing. Cheers, Whisper

The FEGs are great guns. One cautionary note if you get one -- most but not all of the parts will interchange with the Browning or FN. If you decide to replace parts in yours, check first. Cheers, Whisper

What exactly is a fair price for 7.62x39mm ammo these days? I rarely shoot that caliber and have a decent supply of ammo. Maybe I should put it in the classified section.

I greatly admire your skill in figuring out and correcting all the problems with this gun. Thanks for sharing what you've learned. I'll still not likely buy one because I have too many incomplete gun projects already, but even so.... With respect, Whisper

I've always been interested in the old 1877s but have never read anything from someone who has figured out how to work on them. Thanks for sharing your insights, xtriggerman. Cheers, Whisper

Sig did have some early problems with the P365, compounded by the fact that at first they tried to pretend there were no problems. But I believe they're all straightened out now, and the P365 is now my top choice when I can't carry a larger gun. Plenty of gun manufacturers have problems with the first-year run of new models. This includes Springfield (see the XDS.) Cheers, Whisper

Why I Don't Do Gun Business With Perfect Strangers
Whisper replied to E4 No More's topic in General Chat
Sad story. You can do gun deals arranged online, but you need to exercise some selectivity (buyers from TGO are generally a trustworthy group). Don't do deals at night, and meet in a public place like a gun store parking lot or a police dept parking lot (several depts maintain places for Craig's List transactions and whatnot). I'm sorry for this guy and his family. -
Future rush on low capacity guns?
Whisper replied to Parrothead's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Actually, that's not correct. California did "grandfather in" possession of existing normal magazines when they passed the ban on sales of new ones, and when the ban was temporarily suspended by the courts, those Californians who wisely hastened to buy regular mags were allowed to keep them when the ban was reimposed. Outright bans and confiscation of guns or magazines, without any grandfathering, would unquestionably produce a flurry of lawsuits under the "takings clause" of the Fifth Amendment. Few governments want to incur the expense that would entail. But of course, tyrants wanna tyrannize, so you never know for sure.... Cheers, Whisper -
Future rush on low capacity guns?
Whisper replied to Parrothead's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Regular capacity magazines were grandfathered during the Clinton gun ban but no one has any idea what will get passed by the current Congress. Beto and some others have made clear their desire for confiscation, but I doubt most Dems think they could get that passed. And, in case of another high-cap ban, likely you could still carry your G19 -- you'd just have to use a neutered 10-round mag. -
I have a gun restoration project going on and need someone to do some parkerizing. I took the gun to one of the large local stores here in Nashville and they not only informed me that they don't do parkerizing or bluing, they claimed no one in Middle TN is doing it. No one does anything but durakote or cerakote, they said. Can this be true? No gunsmith in Middle TN does bluing or parkerizing? Thanks, Whisper

Maybe Mr. Robinson has a brother or sister we could convince to move to Tennessee and run for office here.

This is Mark Robinson. He just took office this month as lieutenant governor of North Carolina. He rose to public prominence largely on the strength of this appearance before the Greensboro City Council.

It's hard to believe there isn't someone in TN who can do basic work like this. But if you can't find anyone, I had a first-year 686 rebarreled by Hyatt Gun Shop in Charlotte, NC, back when I lived there, and they did a fine job. Cheers, Whisper

In Tennessee, people can justifiably use deadly force to defend themselves or others if they believe there is an imminent threat of death or serious injury. There is no duty to retreat from your home. Do you believe the intruder in your home poses a threat of death of serious injury? Then you are legally justified in using deadly force to prevent that death or injury. You cannot use deadly force to prevent the intruder from walking out the door with your 4K UHD television.

I have two. I bought the lowers and built them up with parts kits. One is a .300 AAC and one is a .223. They don't see heavy use but both have worked flawlessly and are a few years old. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Here's one of them -- a .223 built for my daughter. I don't think Magpul makes pink furniture any more, and maybe TN Arms Co doesn't make pink receivers any more, but I enjoyed building this one for her. The other one is black and looks just like any other AR. Cheers, Whisper

Sight pusher tool recommendations
Whisper replied to lock n' load's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Beware. There are many sight pushers out there, and a lot of them are junk. I've broken two sighttool.com pushers before I admitted they are trash. And I've ruined some sights with one of the Sight Masters. Other of the various universal sight pushers might or might not work depending on how tight the sights are. The pushers I've had the best luck with are the MGW models that are specific to the gun. Those babies work -- they are real tools, not something that someone cobbled up in his garage. Hope this helps, Whisper
