SBR & Terminal Ballistics / Fragmentation ?
SupaRice replied to SupaRice's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
That's what I read... Seems most are 1/7, mine is a 1/9.. Plus it's got another inch (that's what she said :yuck: ) so that doesn't hurt. -
SBR & Terminal Ballistics / Fragmentation ?
SupaRice replied to SupaRice's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
That's close to what I'm reading... I mostly have it for fun and cool factor. But if it proves to be reliable I would possibly use it in a SHTF scenario. And in that case I would want it to be capable of suppressing immediate threats with rapid succession... Also, if it'll kill a coyote out to 100yds decently I'd be OK with that too.... :pleased: I have a 16" M&P AR15 also, and would rely on it for longer work of course... I'm mostly wonder what thought others have given to ammo in this sort of setup, for a defensive weapon. -
SBR & Terminal Ballistics / Fragmentation ?

Should probably list also that my setup is 11.5" with a 9 twist.... What do you guys think of this post? http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=6&f=22&t=286571 -
So I've started down the path to SBR and I'm reading here and there. It seems there is a lot of talk about bullet fragmentation and other terminal ballistics when using M855 or M193 in a SBR. I found this: http://counterstrikefox.freeservers.com/mv.htm http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=273352 Which is a short summation of what I've read elsewhere. My SBR (already have some of the parts) will be a 11.5" barrel.... Does that provide enough velocity to give good downrange ballistics? What are alternative ammunition options?

:pleased: Like this....

Do you think they'll ever come back down to pre-craziness levels? Or has the industry taken a lesson from the energy companies here in not letting a good tragedy go to waste? $.30/rd ---> $1.50/rd ---> $.78/rd over an 8 month period..... or something like that.

Open Carry video that actually ends well.

I don't normally comment on these things.... but ..... wow I think that officer was top notch, and glad to see it. Those idiots on the other hand.... not helping. -
So, I'm going on a hunting trip with my dad this year to a commie state that doesn't allow rifles.... but supposedly they have an awesome deer population. I guess that goes hand in hand... hehe Anyway, so to bend the rules I bought a Remington 870 Super Slug http://www.remington.com/en/products/firearms/shotguns/model-870/model-870-sps-shurshot-synthetic-super-slug.aspx I have to say... this thing is a BEAST... and it kicks you like one when you don't shoulder it correctly! Here's mine :pleased: : . It shoots these: :pleased: So I was sighting it in down at my friend's place, and I used 3 railroad timbers propped up against a tree. 100 yards away and WOW does this thing do some damage. I didn't take any pictures of the timbers, but it was a hole about half the size of your fist on the back side for each shot! And this is what it looks like when you pull one out of the tree behind those timbers. Also surprising to me, and a little concerning, was when I found this on the ground behind the targets after running a few .45 FMJ through my XDs at the target! :stunned: This was from about 15 yards.... I mean those timbers weren't green lumber, but they were FAR from rotten. And they're about 5" thick! I don't know how the crap that made it through and ended up pretty well unscathed and laying on the ground. I suppose it could've just gone through one on an angle and out the side.... but wow....

No dice. Or I'm totally dumb. Seems like this should be something that is available state wide....

I know that you can search Davidson county for arrests/criminal court case outcome easily online, but I'm not finding a place to do that for Rutherford Co. Anyone know where you can do that?

Traveling to Atlanta next week for business, where can I find the most current information surrounding their reciprocity of my TN carry permit? Do I need to know anything specific to Atlanta or just general Georgia information? I found this: http://dps.georgia.gov/georgias-firearm-permit-reciprocity Which leads to some very verbose stuff here:

Well they had other ammo too. The ones I mentioned were the ones I was looking for... It's going fast!

There's a place on Moore's Lane in Coolsprings that has a TON of ammo, with "within reason" quantity restrictions. Everything Weapons 7061 Moores Lane Brentwood, TN Prices were reasonable given the current shortages. I paid $13.99 for a 20rd box of 5.56 NATO. They have .22LR, 9MM, 7.62 and BOXES of magazines. Seemed like a good bunch of guys.

?Solar Power - For battery charging?
SupaRice replied to SupaRice's topic in Survival and Preparedness
+1 on Dolomite's setup.... Would love to see pics of your setup. I would also like to be able to charge tablets and Laptops if need be, or something of that size. Portability is a plus. -
So, been thinking about how I would keep optics, flash lights and other lighting, and batteries for comms up and running in an extended power outage scenario. Do you guys have any exposure to solar powered battery charger setups? I've been looking at this one: http://www.goalzero.com/sherpa50.html I like how it looks easy to use (wife could figure it out easy), and it seems like a well engineered system. However it's on the pricey side, and there is no flexibilty for other types of power should it be needed. I've also seen this one, which is appealing since it doesn't require sunlight and can be multipurpose as a camp stove. Also a little pricey for what you get I think and I worry about reliability on this one as well as power output. http://shop.biolitestove.com/BioLite-CampStove_p_15.html What have you guys seen, like?

Looking to get a decent video surveillance setup for the house, DVR and 4-5 cameras. I'd like decent video quality and the abilit to keep at least a few days. Also being able to see it via the internet would be cool. There are so many options, anyone used one that they have had sucess with?

I ended up with the Maxpedition Kodiak.... Pretty happy with it thus far. Not reallly much padding around the edges, but I think it'll be fine.

Department colors it seems. At least it has the logo on it.

So how are you getting your Zombie fix until the next season airs?

What all do I need to convert my S&W M&P15 to a free float handguard setup? I know I'll need a lower profile gas block. What else? Recommendations?

I have a Kershaw that I've had for probably 6-7 years. The open assist broke on it a few months back, so I sent it in. Since it has a lifetime warranty. To my surprise I received it back within the same week, cleaned, sharpened and spring assist in brand new working order! EXCELLENT customer service. I didn't have to call anyone or anything, just put it in a box and ship it in. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but seems that when anything works as advertised these days it's surprising. ... .... Does that mean I'm getting old? That sounded like an old guy thing to say....
