Hey all! I'm part of a church security team and we do lot of training; including force-on-force/scenario. A lot of the time, I’m posted at an entrance to one of the facilities that is about 25 yards from a parking lot. This is about my max effective range at the moment with pistol irons and, unless things go to hell, none of us will be carrying carbines. Because of this, the idea of adding an RDS to my pistol seems like it may be a wise option. It would allow me better engagement at that distance and be more accurate dealing with the cover provided by the cars. The other option, which I know others already do, is to keep a carbine somewhere fairly close. Unless I’m roaming the parking lots, I’ll have access to proper cover at most of my post locations. However, retreating inside to retrieve a rifle allows the adversary time to get closer to the goal. And we all know how bad it becomes if they ever enter the facility. Thoughts from current pistol RDS users or others in the same decision path?

The controls, accuracy, and ergonomics. I've run the G19 for a few years and it's been perfectly fine, but every time I played with the P30 as a rental, there was a noticeable change for the better. It's more comfortable, controls feel more natural, and my groups improve (I get similar results with a 1911 too). The first time I shot one, something kind of clicked. But due to the price and unfamiliarity with DA/SA at the time, I ignored it as a contender. Since then, I've tried various options and have had much more training which has helped surface the attributes I prefer for a defensive/combat pistol.

Picked up an HK P30 V3 the other day : ) Replacing my Glock 19 as primary (but the Glock isn't going anywhere; I still like it).

Open and Concealed Carry- How do you do it?
Father Goose replied to Ronald_55's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Conceal a P229 at 5:00. It's a little heavier and thicker than my 19, but I'm much more accurate with it. -
Alright, a little update. The new mags came in from TGO, but were also USA made Check-mate mags. After doing some more research, I came across the suggestion that the followers might be a little too tall. So, I took one to test and ground down the front and back tabs a little bit. It seemed to help very little. Also, the coil count on the Check-mate mags is 12 while the coil count on the MecGar mags is 11. I proceeded to cut off the extra coil to see what it would do, which seemed to make a noticeable difference when loading (I could get all 15 rounds in without too much trouble). I loaded the modified mag into the pistol to check on the ease of racking the slide. Sadly, it was very hard to do so. Taking off yet another coil and trying again yielded the same result. It looks like I'm back down to 14 rounds in the rest of the Check-mate mags until I can source more of the MecGars. In my opinion, SIG really ought to recall the Check-mate mags.

Nice! Any pics?

Yup, the two that came with the gun are 15-rounders and the two bought after are 15-rounders. The P229-1 / E2 uses 15 round mags; the old 13 round mags don't function in the latest version.

I tore the buggers down today, but they are still a pain to deal with. Ordered a few more of the nicer ones from TGS, since they were in stock.

I recently picked up a new P229R and it came with two 15-round mags manufactured by MecGar (Made in Italy). I bought two more from Ammunition Depot that are Made in the USA (Check-mate Industries). The MecGar mags are very easily to load, but I have a very hard time loading the 15th round into the Check-mate mags (even rounds 10-14 are not very nice). I know some will say to use an UpLULA loader, but that's really only practical for range trips. Anyone know shops that tend to carry the MecGar mags, such as Top Gun Supply?

Received mine back from Ident

I caved and sent my lower to Ident Marking; should have it back in a week or so.

Thanks! It's pretty comfortable.

I originally built the rifle with a Troy Alpha rail (I still have it and like it), but I wanted to try out the Bravo rail with Magpul XTM covers : ) Here are a few quick and dirty images:

Very nice! I like the subtle color choice. -
Lovely rifle (and scope)! I'm looking to add something similar for a hunting rifle (retire the Mauser).

Yeah, laminated steel. We'll see how it holds up down the road. -
Picked this up recently. Quite happy with it so far:
