I'm glad it's not a 45-70 -
Unfortunately many of those reports are true and this is based on the amount of direct contact with family and friends, first hand eye witness myself, etc. I have to say I'm appalled at how this area is being ignored in so many ways. You can ignore the fancy press releases. Most I've read are basically outright lies. On the flip side, people from all over have been a godsend. The amount of volunteers, support, goods received have saved countless lives. Below is a post from one of my clients. Basically spot on with what I've heard and experienced.

If you plan on coming toward or near Lenoir City anytime soon I'd take it. -
I would agree and feel most of the crap posted on Facebook an such are flat lies, grossly exaggerated, or as stated designed to divide. I also don't think it can all be laid 100% at Russia and foreign countries feet either. I have not heard of any goods or monies donated being confiscated, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of scams. At the end of the day when tragedies such as this hit it is the good in people, COMING TOGETHER, that comes out. That is being shown over and over. May we all strive to be a beacon of hope even in the darkest of times.

Yes they can create curfews, etc during emergencies. Rest assured most in the area did just leave and go look for family and friends. When they shut down local fire departments, sheriff's departments, etc from doing their jobs then it is an issue. The people I'm talking about were trying to work through those local channels. When you hear first hand that the only people actually delivering goods, doing safety checks, trying to get people medical attention are Samaritans Purse, churches, etc., and not any government alphabets, then my opinion they can't walk in and take over and then stop everything. That has happened. I also know that they were ignored in a lot of areas and told to pound sand by some fire chiefs and sheriff's. Basically the incompetence at some of the government people trying to run the show is mind boggling. But then what else is new. These are first hand reports by people I know personally. If the media reported what was actually happening I would hope there would be a massive public outcry but those reports won't happen.

No there is not.

I cannot comment on any of the videos or Facebook posts but I can comment on what I've been told by family members who tried to volunteer for search and rescue. This was direct from family who was standing there trying G to help. They made over 200 searchers sit on their butts for 2 hours today because FEMA told them to stand down until further notice. One even said “let them rot until we tell you to continue”

Couple around town here. Aquaclear water company has one with a complete wrap on it. It will make you look so it's a great billboard for the company. The solid white one is a whole other level of ugly to me.

One of the greatest. And yes, should have been in Hall of Fame first year of eligibility. -

Glad you are safe and have some provisions. Hopefully reinforcements are on their way. This is going to be a long recovery. Multiple years.

Yes I have several family and a bunch of friends. All are safe. I'm told the pictures don't show the true destruction.

I'm told Hot Springs, NC is even worse. The words used are the entire town is unsalvagable. It's a few miles downriver from Marshall.

These are pictures of my home town. 4 to 6 feet of water down main street. The bridge you see partly under water crossing the river connects to an island in the middle of the river that is underwater. I went to elementary school on that island.

Here's drone footage of Erwin, TN. My brother talked to his son-in-law who lives in area we grew up. He is a lineman for Duke Power. Said would be months before power was back to some places in Western NC. All roads are barricaded. https://youtu.be/_FVvRe0JNqo?si=HAPLwlwgUxldv10b

NC DOT just reported over 300 highways/roads in WNC are completely impassable due to washed out or slides this is not counting ones covered in trees that will have to be cleared before they can check for damage. I have family and friends in full panic mode. One friend and his family crawled up a bank and watched their house wash away. Neighbors rescued them. Said it came on so fast didn't have time to do anything.

Biltmore is under water. They were expecting it to crest 2 feet below the arch over the entrance road to Biltmore Estate.

I grew up in Marshall, NC a small town about 20 minutes north of Asheville. The entire Western NC area is having major flooding with 2 dams failing. Trees have been blown down and power is out in most of the area. The last texts I received from friends said it looked like a war zone over a vast area. My hometown has a foot of water from the French Broad River running down main street. The Pigeon River has washed part of I40 away and both directions out of Newport are shut down. People are stranded, missing, etc. Communications are down in most of the area. Below is a screenshot from an announcement by the power company in that area.

Sorry for your loss. We had Ginger for 9 years and 1 month. Thought we rescued her and she rescued us.

We are very thankful she did not suffer and we take great comfort in that. Was probably just a day or two from a horrific issue.
