Walt's YouTube channel is one of the best about antennas and getting on the air. He keeps it simple and doesn't get all up in the hype. Chirp is what most use to program Baofeng, I use RT Systems for all my radios.

Yes it hurts. I know those long conversations well. 2 or 3 times a week I'd get a text from him asking how I was doing and he was praying for me.

Yes he is at peace and ready to go. I learned more about 308 and 12ga from him than I would have ever thought possible. I have an abundant supply of 308 and 12ga, reloading notes, etc etc etc from him also. Some great conversations in his basement.

Updated 12/13/2024. Just got a text from Kathy and Jim passed away this morning. AuEagle (Jim) has been fighting some serious health issues for the last year or so. He fell recently and broke his hip. He has not been able to bounce back from the fall and surgery with everything else going on. He went into hospice last week. He hadn't responded to my texts the last couple of days so I knew something was up. I just spoke to his wife this morning and he doesn't have long left. Please keep him and his wife Kathy in your prayers for a peaceful passing. Jim and I have been friends for many years and I was at his house just a couple of months ago. He told me then he was at peace and ready whenever God called him home. The fall was unexpected and basically just moved the timeline up some. It's been a tough couple of weeks. Another dear friend who was my office manager for years and a 2nd momma to me found out she had brain cancer 4 months ago. She went into hospice yesterday. I visited with her this morning. I am always amazed how fast an illness can move. This is a reminder to tell the people important in your life what they mean to you now. Things can change in the blink of an eye.

The best bang for the buck right now is the Xiegu G90. I use it a lot for portable. A lot use it for home base stations.

It's a great hobby. There are so many directions you can go the possibilities are endless. Here is a graphic of the contacts that I literally talked to just in November. Most were done on a single 73 foot wire I have 25 feet horizontal in the air at my house. But several were done with a 17 or 25 foot whip antennas from my truck. I used radios costing anywhere from $400 dollars up to over $5k. One of my furthest contacts was on the $400 radio.

You folks never met my Mom. She loved Christmas and the lights more than anything. My brothers wife is the same way. When mom had to move in with them Christmas started before Thanksgiving and he got a double dose. As a matter of fact he sent me a picture last week and his wife already had 2 trees up. You all pray for him. Lol.
