  1. Ammo pricing is coming down, not as fast as the rifles.....but give it time. If the SGL-31's were 499, I'd be all over them. I have no real need for a 7.62x39 as I have a SAR-1....while its not as nice, it does the job and I don't think the SGL-20 is any more accurate (done some side by side shooting). However, the SGL-31 I shot a couple of weeks ago would threaten the AR side of the range in terms of accuracy. At 100 yds the SGL31 was shooing very nice and tight groups with a combloc optic. Some were an easy 1.5 MOA, then the gun warmed up and stayed around 2-2.5 MOA. I think the 5.45x39 round has a lot to offer in terms of accuracy, enough to make me consider a total switch to the ak74 platform. Only drawbacks on doing so are: - 7.62x39 ammo is dropping in price, hopefully sub $200 per 1k, takes away the advantage of corrosive combloc 5.45 pricing - I have enough 7.62 gear already - Steel commie mags are hard to beat....pun intended. - NO US producer of 5.45x39 if the worse was to happen. But who knows.... if the SGL-31 drops in price, I'm in.
  2. Arsenal SGL-21's (AK-103) are on sale for $499.99 Thats right, the "must have" AK's are on sale for a whopping $500 bucks less than before. Means two things: 1.) The market has crashed, expect super pricing across the board, I can see sub 300 dollar WASR's soon. 2.) I feel bad for those who paid $900+ for one of these. Get your's here: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17015&cat=353&page=1 If your in the market for a nice AK, some say the best outside of a custom build, the time is here.
  3. K-VAR has $499.99 SGL-21's !!!!! There is no reason to buy WASR anymore. (Nothing against them) But being able to get an Arsenal for 500 bucks, is a STEAL (they used to be 969.99). On the bright side, this should drive WASR's down to the sub $300 range. http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17015&cat=353&page=1 I'm ordering one this Friday.
  4. I've heard the same joke with Hitler and the Swiss PM. Needless to say, its still funny.
  5. GSG5's are a blast to shoot. I had one for a while but sold it and picked up another AK. If you have the extra $500 for a .22, then by all means go get one, they are a riot.
  6. All are very nice rifles.
  7. They might not be pretty, but I've had a WASR that ATE EVERYTHING it was fed. Mine had NO cant on the sight blocks nor gas tube. I think thats all that matters for a 300-400 dollar AK is it not? Accuracy was on par with the SGL-20, SAR-1, and SSR-85. Most people neglect to zero in the rifle, and thus say WASR's are garbage. Don't really know the forum rules on suggesting other sites, but ARFCOM has the best AK section I've come across. The guys there have been a great help for me, and they have different sections within the AK section for each nationality. Also the AK side of the forum tends to be more civilized and welcoming than the black rifle side. There isn't the "If your AR is not equipped with a minimum of $2k worth of tacticool accessories, don't post here nonsense" that is seen on the AR side. We welcome all those who like the Kalash. my .02 My current "go-to" 1999 SAR-1, De banned, Romanian VFG, BP-02, Aimpoint clone.
  8. That is a Romanian SAR-1. (No barrel threading / MB, No bayo lug, and it has dimples on the receiver.....means post ban). I have a SAR-1 and love it.

    Snap vs. Push

My 1911 is more controllable than the G23 and G22 I've shot quite a bit. The .45 in a 1911 makes the recoil "roll back" in my opinion, where as the .40's I've shot do "snap" as the OP mentioned. My 9mm P6 is pretty tame, as well as my G19. I personally like .45 over .40 my $.02
  10. G19 - so easy a caveman can use it 1911's - my grandfather survived the war because of one, and I'm a believer in the Gospel of John.....Moses Browning AK's - I just like them, and I enjoy making bets at the range against the AR guys with the 5.45
  11. I am also in the market for a trade in G17. I called Bellshire and they have NIB for $540.79 OTD
  12. The 74 is also in the back of my mind. I had a century Tantal, which was a complete fiasco, it keyholed like it was supposed to do it..... I know they were 5.56 Green Mtn Barrels. boo century. K_VAR has the SGL-31 on sale for 799.99, which is more or less a Russian made AK74. Why....did you have to bring up the 74, now I'm going to lean that way again (159 per 1k isn't too shabby either)
  13. I'm an avid AK shooter, I've got a few and I was going to get one in 5.56, then it hit me........get an AR platform. So, I'm now beginning the search for an AR. Here is what I'm after. M16A2 / M16A4 clone.... more or less the full sized rifle with a flattop on the receiver, don't really need a quad rail (can get one down the road). My price range is 700 - 900 OTD. I know this limits my options, however, I can't afford a colt/bushy/LWRC, etc... I've run across the double star 15 being sold by centerfire systems in KY. It's 799.99. Anyone have any other suggestions? This is going to be for range / farm fun and the occasional zombie attack.
  14. I was there today! I live off west end, and its only 25 min from the house.
  15. I'll take some pics when I get home this afternoon. The front sight drifts off with a punch and hammer. once off, the sight post falls out. I used a refinishing nail (cut it to size) which sat in the base where the front sight was and drifted it back on. I had tried the electrical wire wrap trick, but wanted something more durable.
  16. I have searched high and low for a Saiga .223 in the Nashville area. Franklin gun shop had one, but it sold... which might be a good thing as I hate giving them money. Have any of you seen any around? If you happen to be in a shop that has one, can you let me know where. I sold all my 5.45 and 7.62 rifles to focus on ammo commonality of 5.56, and I love Ak's so I desire the famous Saiga. I've seen em at the gun show for 600 bucks, which is a rip off, as a friend got one in Birmingham for 400 out the door. So I know they have to be out there. thanks
  17. My 1943 M91/30 is a tack driver. It is an Izhevsk, and while not as accurate as some M39 Finn rifles, It will shoot 3-4 MoA at 100yds with Irons. I do this with the rear site set at 200m. When I first got it, it shot pretty high, so switched out the front sight with a nail, and took a file to the range working it down a lil at a time. 7.62 is plentiful and cheap, 440 rounds for 100 bucks. I used denatured alcohol to strip the shalack off and rubbed it with a finishing pad. Add a little lindeed oil, and now shes a looker. Get one, I paid 109 out the door __ get a limb saver recoil pad in the small size and you can go through 200 rounds no problem.
  18. I should add, the shipping time is UNREAL. When I ordered a set of the desert micarta grips on a Saturday, they were on the gun Tuesday night.
  19. The Rock Islands are great guns. I have the 5in tac, and I have around 2k rounds through it no problems. Parts are as "drop in" as any other 1911, if you understand the irony.

    Dick's Stores?

Dick has the best price on .45 acp than anyone in Nashville. For the Remington green box it runs 19.99 a box. Wal Mart *used* to have the WWB .45 100 pack for 28 bucks, but NO wally world in town has any, in any caliber it seems. As far as .22 ammo goes, Wally World is the best deal. They have the Federal Value pack for 13.87 for 550 rounds. My GSG5 eats it like candy, and it is not as dirty as the thunderbolt ammo.
  21. I had those grips on my RIA tac. I have since replaced them due to cracking. I would check out RAASCO grips http://raascogrips.com/ They are somewhat under the radar, making pricing lower than most of the big name guys. I have the dymondwood and thier micarta offerings, and I couldn't be happier.
  22. My fathers Browning Sweet Sixteen. Every time I take it out to the farm I remember the day when I was eight and begged to shoot it, ouch. Now many years later I must admit, it would have to be a 14.5mm PTRD-41 anti tank rifle. Shot it at Knob Creek and took about a week to get my shoulder back in place.
  23. I have been to gun shows in the past, however I have never tried to sell anything. How does one go about selling a rifle at a show, is that for vendors only? Or can I walk around with it? I have an extra Tantal I need to sell to fund a GSG5. With Jan 20 approaching I wonder if I would have a good chance of letting go of the AK at the show?
  24. Ok, I can't express the joy and excitement I have right now after hearing both Rudy and Gov. Palin blast the lid off Obama's experience. Finally for the first time someone has OPENLY addressed his lack of ability to lead the United States. I think this was a political SLAM DUNK, and now I 100% fully support this ticket, with no reservations. I ask you fellow Tennesseans: - What do you think - Rudy 2012? Palin 2012? - How does this hurt Obama's campaign

    My new toy.

In regards to the parts count, who may I ask will ever know, and who will ever want to check a firearm for compliance. Just wondering?
