  1. I pray every day that I am not faced with that scenario but should that happen I ask for a clear eye and steady hand. I also feel there is no duty to engage, that is why its called SELF defense. We hear all about the split second decisions the police have to make all the time in these situations too but why would that be any different with you and I? We are not blessed with the authority of the state nor the protections of it either. If the police show up at an active shooter scene  and he sees you have a gun in your hand, you will die  at the hands of the state agent and he will get away with that, and receive an award on top of it. You will just be the "good guy with a gun" that thought it was a good idea to engage an active shooter that falls into obscurity.   I just know this, all situations are different and If I am faced with that some day I will make a decision accordingly, hopefully I will survive it.
  2. If you see a gun buster sign on the door of a business and turn around and go back to your car and disarm and then continue to go back into said business then you have made a choice, a choice the business owner didn't FORCE you to make nor force you to continue to do business in his establishment. Nothing to do with denying you your rights. Their private property, their rules. With whom you do business is your choice. So to answer your question, they are not responsible for your safety. Only you are.
  3. I think holding our police professionals to the higher standard of  actually following the law themselves is not being a jack ass. I may agree that he may have been a little bit salty in his language but that is not against the law. I admire any citizen that stands up to authority when that authority is being exercised beyond the bounds of the law. Is that too much to expect? How others handle their contacts with LEO is up to them. I just will not condemn anyone who stands up for his rights when they are clearly being violated, how ever he sees fit to do so. I carry both openly and concealed. I see no reason to hide my rights under my shirt. It does no good in advancing the idea that good people carry guns too and can do so respectfully. I have never had anyone complain about my openly carrying, not even the 2 officers that clearly could see that I was armed. In fact, I have been thanked more than being negatively confronted for carrying. Most LEO are professional in the performance of their duties, some others are on a power trip an think they can treat people however the wish and need to be stood up to. Just my opinion.
  4. While we here in TN are obligated by law to show ID when carrying should we be asked by a LEO,  some other states do not have this same law. In traditional open carry states you are not doing anything illegal so why submit to a violation of your rights just because officer friendly doesn't like you OCing??  If you don't defend your rights firmly when you know the LEO is in the wrong then you may as well lay down and let them do what ever they wish.  Sure, you might be arrested and cuffed...... then its all up the lawyers. One of our rights is to seek redress against violations of our rights. Anyone who successfully sues a municipality for violations and wins I applaud them.  Its the only thing authority understands. Make them pay a large monetary penalty for their overreach. Don't be sheep.
  5. But..but ....but.....this is not what America is..... we are not bigoted and prejudiced ...send us your down trodden, your poor ...bla  bla  bla....we welcome immigrants. That's what some seeking the presidency want, let alone the one already in office, "That's not who we are." They condemn Donald Trump for saying we need to stop letting Muslim refugees into the country UNTIL they can be vetted and confirmed they truly are refugees and not terrorists in disguise. Sounds reasonable to me.  Obama says they are just "widows and orphans". Don't be fooled. 2/3 to 3/4 of those refugees are MEN between the ages of 15 and 40........no jjhadists there.  yeah, right.  Any candidate who is for ANY form of gun control is not your friend. Look to Georgia and see what some Democrats are up to there. Stand up for your rights and carry where ever you legally can. No matter what your feelings on open carry are we should all stand together in the matter of our right to bear arms, how ever we wish to.
  6. Was in Flushing through high school, then moved to Davison. Retired from truck assembly. Skilled trades tinsmith. Haven't looked back, don't miss MI at all. Good place to be FROM. Love it here in East TN.
  7. I have been signed up here for about a year, just haven't been real active in posting. I am a Michigan transplant and have been a carrier for the past 8years. I am still learning and try to advocate and educate as much as I possibly can.  I advocate for concealed or open carry, take responsibility for your own defence, get training and your permit and just carry. Looking forward to continued dialog here.
  8. It may very well be the "gun grabbers" staged this stunt. I believe it is illegal to carry into a police station, openly or concealed. Was the guy arrested? Anyone know ANYTHING about this guy? The police did not question the guy??
  9. So open carry there. No law against it and no law against car carry as far as open carry goes.
  10. The police do not hesitate in putting someone in their sights, with no initial threat what so ever. We all know that the technique of "just asking for a light" is the way a bad guy gets near his victim. All those other people in the lot and he just happens to pick her?  He saw a potential victim. This woman was right in perceiving a threat because that is exactly what it was. This situation is exactly the conundrum we all face.......when do we put the gun in our hand to be prepared for a confrontation. If you wait until the threat exposes itself then its too late to react (usually). If you draw too soon then you just became the criminal.   One problem I see is most people were raised to be polite to others, and in most instances that is appropriate. When we are approached is a parking lot the response should be "Get  away from me" loudly and forcefully. Attract attention from those potential witnesses.  Nice is not your friend in a threatening circumstance.
  11. As of 2/1/16 Virginia will end reciprocity with TN. After that date your TN permit will no longer be recognised in the great state of VA. This affects most other states now currently recognized. Only 4 other states will still be recognized. McAuliffe and his anti minions think this will keep the fine citizens of VA "safer".
