  1. It's good to hear that the shelves are being stocked again. I would think if the stock builds up and sits on the shelf for a while the price might come down. Wish we could say the same for .22LR but it may come around eventually also.
  2. R Bert, What kind of optic is on your rifle in the pic?   I like the bipod/ foregrip also, looks similar to the one I have on my AR, or I should say my son's AR, he spent more on it than I did, he bought the upper and I bought the lower, mags, and a used red dot. Santa brought us some bulk ammo for Christmas last year so we have had some fun with it for sure.   I hope the OP has learned a lot of info from you R Bert. I can only vouch for the other models of Keltecs that I own but they have never let me down. I may end up with an SU-16 myself someday, you never know.   Oh Shoot, thanks for bringing up the changes in the Keltec warranty, good to know.   By the way, i forgot to welcome the OP, Robertgg to the forum. I am a newcomer as well but already I have learned a lot from the guys on TGO. Good luck making your decision on the SU-16.
  3. Sweet looking rifle. I do not own an SU-16 but I do have a SUB2000 in .40 and a P32. I have had no problems with either of these Keltecs. I have never had any warranty issues but I have always heard their warranty dept was good to deal with. I did not know it was only warranty for the original owner as Oh Shoot was saying. I bought both of mine new so I should be ok.   Keltecs are not safe queens by any means, I would say they are more of a working man's gun.    I looked real hard at these rifles but went with a budget AR build instead.
  4. Right before all the panic started last Nov me and my son put together a budget AR. I got a polymer ATI complete lower from  local FFL up the road from me, last one in stock, and my son ordered a complete 16" M4 flat top upper with BCG & charging handle from Rguns. We didn't learn much about the actual assembly since all we had to do was pin it together. I think we had about $550 total in the build with tax, fee, shipping, etc included. At $550 that left me some cash to put into an optic and mags & ammo to feed it.    I know I may hear some flak about the polymer lower but it has performed great and the quality is very good. Seemed like just what I was looking for on a budget build, and It fit the bill for what we expect from the rifle.   If you look in the firearm classifieds on here you will note a few complete ARs in the $680 range.   I think areo precision had cosmetic blemished stripped lowers cheap when I was looking last week. Don't quote me but I think they were $75 with free shipping to an FFL. Rguns is still stocked up on the complete uppers in the range of $420 plus shipping, last year they were $409 so they have not went up that much.   New Frontier complete polymer lowers are around $140, you might check them out   Hope that helps you out UncleJak, if I get a chance I will try to get a pic of this budget build we did.
  5. Will you be passing out the North Korean friendship bracelets? If so I may have to dust off my turbine.
  6. +1 DanO. I could not agree more.
  7. No problem here bersaguy, but apology accepted. I don't guess any of us are getting any younger. My eyesight is holding out ok for now but it is a slippery slope we're on. Hope the zoom helped you out.   By the way, did you have any luck finding a shoulder holster? If you haven't checked back on that thread in a while, I left you some links to the holsters I have purchased and tried to explain about them.
  8. Maybe it's just a glitch in the matrix?
  9. Was it a thesaurus or did it translate some words to German? No worries on the spelling 380. My typing usually is what gets crossed up, it's hard for me to hunt & peck fast without swapping letters around.   I bet Nunya or Benton, whichever it is, never thought his original post would turn into such hot topic. I am glad they did not lock it down, I think everyone has remained civil and got in some good debate at the same time. Good way to get to know some of you guys.   RobertNashville is probably right, not much more to say. You guys have a good one.
  10. Monkeylizard's explanation is spot on.   Buying up the Wallyworld 22LR bricks with no intent other than reselling them at a gouged price is kind of the same as throwing a box of roofing nails in the road and setting up a temporary road side tire repair business. Seems shady to me. How would you feel as a customer at the "tire repair stand" if you found out the guy running it threw out the nails?    I would say that none of these "re-sellers" are legitimate businesses. Walmart is a legitimate business that sells to the end user. They are not a wholesale distributor but are selling retail to the public. These "re-sellers" are inserting themselves in between Walmart and the public as a middle man.   I have learned that you can take about anything and find that there will be somebody that has found a crooked way to make money off of it.   Years ago I would just pick up a brick every once in a while at Walmart whether I needed it or not but when there is not any on the shelf or it is too high I just don't buy any. I still have an adequate stock from what I bought over the years. Hopefully this situation will level off. If there was 1,000 bricks of it on the shelf the re-sellers would pack up and go home and start looking for a new game. Kind of like a parasite looking for a new host.
  11.   I realized that after I first started this thread. Not sure if $4.79 for a box of 5 would be a good price for that item, either way there would be some unhappy bucks running around Maryville.
  12. Back when I lived in the Taj Mahal I kept an M1 Garand on the nightstand for self defense, and I always carried it with me on those long walks to the bathroom down the 500 yard hall, didn't have to worry about over penetrating sheetrock cause there wasn't any back then... Just kidding.    I would agree with Garufa, handgun, shotgun, or both. I would say it boils down to what you feel comfortable with. I lean toward a handgun next to the bed and Winchester 1300 defender 12 ga not too far away in the closet. The AR would not come into play for me unless things went outside. I don't plan on pursuing someone outside but that could come into play in an abduction situation or something along that line. Not something I plan for in home invasion scenarios but i guess you never really now.    I think there is no right answer to this question. I am sure that many of the leo & military guys, or others that have extensive CQ training with AR platform rifles would be a lot more capable with them than I am with one in a CQ encounter inside the house. They might lean more toward the AR because that is what they feel comfortable with. No doubt it has it's advantages, especially against multiple attackers.    If I had to use a rifle during a home invasion it would more than likely be my Marlin 1894C lever action in .357/ .38spl. I feel comfortable with it and it takes the same ammo as the bedside handgun 38spl. I have practiced with it more a lot than the AR, I have put over 1000 rounds through it at varying distances, up to 100 yards. Maybe I need to keep it next to the Winchester so I can grab it. Now you have got me thinking.   It never hurts to re-evaluate your defense plans and think outside the box a little. There is no substitute for training and practice.
  13. I am new to TGO and I was not following the original thread. Could someone pm me with a ballpark on the pricing that was discussed in the original thread? I am sure they are a great deal but I would like to know the price to decide on the quantity, I would like 1 lower, possibly 2 lowers if I can swing the funds.    There is an FFL down the road from me here in Louisville, I could mention this to him and see if he would like to be 1 of the designated FFL's for this area if you would like. Just let me know.
  14. Nice gift. +1 on telling him congrats on the promotion and thanks for his service to our country!
  15. I will watch for updates on the lowers. I made need a couple for some builds I am planning.   I am afraid the deep concealment ass implants might interfere with IWB carry or they might help, not sure I want to find out.    Do they have a dumb satellite phone option? I have not upgraded to smart phone yet, still in the dark ages.
  16. Nice A2 build. You have just reinforced that I too need an 20" A2. No cure out there for black rifle disease that I know of that allows you to keep your brain or balls intact, there may be some cures if you are willing to sacrifice in these areas.   I noticed Sportsman's Guide has an A1 parts kit minus the barrel and lower. I did not look closely at the details but it seemed a little pricey so I thumbed on through their catalog without giving it much thought.
  17. What are TGO lowers? I am thinking along the lines of AR lowers but maybe I just have black rifle fever. I am new to TGO and have not been following this topic, but when I saw lowers it caught my eye.   Whatever it is I am sure MacGyver can get it worked out easily with a candy bar wrapper, some pocket lint, chewing gum, and a nickel.
  18. CC 99% of the time when in public places. I will OC on my property or at my business and to and from, and may get out of the car OC while pumping gas late at night if I plan to pay at the pump. Not a fan of drawing attention so I never have felt completely comfortable with OC but to each is own. We are fortunate to live in TN where we can OC if we choose to, I just choose not to most of the time. I find that I am leaning toward IWB or OWB with shirt tail out during the warmer months and OWB or shoulder rig with jacket or heavy cover garment in the cooler months. It is nice to not worry violating any laws by printing or the occasional wardrobe incident exposing your carry weapon accidentally.   Here is a link to an incident that happened in Knoxville in '07 with a Coal Creek Armory employee who OC'd into Walmart and had an issue with the a KPD officer who was there on an unrelated call; http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2007/sep/22/gun-owner-receives-apology/. Makes for interesting reading. The officer was totally ignorant to the law and it went all the way to the Police Chief resulting in an apology.   As a business owner I will say that it could be alarming to me or my employees if someone came into our facility OC. We do not get a lot of unannounced walk-in traffic so any time someone comes in it is usually cause for a bit of alarm, especially if after dark, we are open until 11:00pm 4 nights a week and I work all the evening shifts. It would be a little awkward until we determined what the person's intentions are. We sometimes get people coming in asking for directions or they are lost and mistakenly came to our business instead of the place up the street, etc. It may work both ways though because the person coming in may encounter me OC when they come into our facility. I have had some questionable looking folks come in acting very strange but turned out to be harmless, not sure I would have liked seeing a weapon on them during the encounter though. Like someone said earlier dressing nice, clean cut, polite, acting professional, etc go along way toward getting a positive reaction. I think that would apply to any situation regardless of whether you are carrying or not. I am not trying to discourage or encourage either method of carry as I can see advantages to both, but just thought everyone might benefit from hearing a different perspective from a pro gun small business owner.
  19. There is something soothing about cooking outside that seems to calm me down also. I have been in search of new stress relieving activities lately also and I noticed that any type of grilling outdoors seems good. I had one of the guys at work make me a homemade fire pit from an old truck brake drum. I slow grilled some chicken on it on a Sunday when I had some time and it was relaxing and the chicken was very good also.   I have found exercise to be good a relieving stress as well as getting in better shape; do a google search for pt pyramid, 25 pullups, 50 pushups, 75 situps. I have been doing this 3 days a week, M, W, F for about a year, I combine it with walking in my driveway, about 5- 1/3 mile round trips, and 100 extra pushups spread out between the round trips, about an hour workout.   I have also been cutting firewood, splitting, stacking, etc. This is a good stress reliever and also gets you into shape and serves a good purpose for heating/ cooking and I think it is good to keep stocked up on firewood to be prepared for SHTF or just a bad winter with power outages. I have backed off this since it has been so hot.   I am not much of a drinker but I would say that TGO David is onto something with the bourbon, dark beer, and cigars method.    Anyone ever smoke a pipe. I am not a smoker but for some reason it sounds relaxing. Seems like something good to do while cooking outdoors by the firepit. Throw in one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer, and we might be on to something. I am having vague memories of lyrics from a George Thorogood song for some reason. I didn't pay the rent money yet, and out the door I went...   I have been watching the Jesse Stone movies on dvd. Something about the way they are written and the music just seems to take my mind of of stressful things for a while. I like to kick back and put in a dvd, get a cup of joe, and relax. I don't know if any of you guys have watched them but I find them enjoyable. Some of these movies are based on books, I have been reading the books and also the Spenser books from the author Robert B. Parker. Very good reading. I find that reading calms me down also. I have a hard time getting my mind off work without some type of distraction. Once I get my mind occupied with something non-stressful then I am on track to relax until I get reminded of something at work and then it starts up again.   Working on vehicles is what my work is related to so that is no longer calming for me. It used to be years ago before that was my work.   I would say that RED333's method is probably foolproof also. A lot of good ideas in this thread for sure.   If a man could incorporate all of these ideas into his life he would be one hell of a well rounded person as well as being very relaxed and calm, maybe tired also depending on how much exercising, and RED333's method is involved and how much firewood is stacked up.
  20. We have never had cable since we moved in '95, we had an antenna outside at that house but did not get very good reception due to trees and being down in a valley surrounded by hills. We never put up an antenna at the house we live in now, been in it for 11 years, same situation with the trees & hills. We have Netflix, between that, dvd library, and the internet we don't have much use for network TV anyway. I am not a sports fan but I can see if you were then you would need cable or dish for sure   All a need is a few of my Netflix selections or other dvd's from our library of movies and I am good; Jesse Stone, Hawaii Five 0 new & old, Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, Emergency!, John Wayne, old westerns or war movies, etc. I can turn one of them on and get on TGO and I will be just fine. I can't wait for winter time so I can build a fire, get some hot coffee, let the dog in, and sit back and relax in my chair. I am thinking I need to take up pipe smoking also. Sounds like it might fit into this scene well. Not sure what the family might think of that.   Bottom line, get rid of the crap tv you have been paying for and try it, I think you will find you can do without it just fine. If not you can always get it turned back on and start forking over the cash again.
  21. '79 F150 4x4 with 4BT Cummins diesel swap, granny 4- speed, or '78 F250 4x4 service truck, winch, tire chains, tools, air compressor, welder, generator, tommy gate, large bumpers, I am usually in close proximity to one of these trucks so I would expect they would be my go to BOV but like someone said earlier you will probably go with whatever is available at the time. I   in a pinch I could always jump in the '77 280Z, my BOB is in the pass seat of it right now and I am ready to sign off for the night and fire up the Z and head home. I work 2nd shift at our business so I spend a little time on TGO at my desk after work before heading home. Are you noticing a pattern of '70's vehicles, I will know I am in trouble if I start hearing disco music. Maybe I am just stuck in the '70's.    I am more of a bug in type anyway, but I may need to use the BOV to get home or retrieve others to get them home to bug in. I like the idea of the old trucks for BOV, reasonably will go anywhere in any weather we have around here, people don't mess with you, blends in does not look out of place in rural TN. When you approach intersections you can see the looks that people have, the caption would read "I don't want to pull out in front of him, he probably does not have any insurance". The old trucks are very simple to work on and maintain and they are new enough that parts are readily available and interchangeable with trucks on up into the 80's and even early 90's.    Our business is working on big trucks & buses so we have the ability to keep these older vehicles running. I have a good BOV project sitting here now; '80 Chevy suburban 3/4 ton 4x4, 350 V8, SM465 4 speed, NP205 transfer case, 10 bolt front, 14 bolt rear, winch, brush guard, 3rd row seat, etc. I have kind of stalled out on this project for now, money & time have been redeployed on other things. I have a fresh 350 to go in it. The suburban goes along with the old truck theory but has the added bonus of covered cargo area and extra pass capacity.
  22. +1 for Simply Rugged. I got 1 of their silver dollar pancake holsters for my sp101 2 years ago. I thought that the chesty puller rig looked interesting. Simply Rugged's pricing is very reasonable and the quality was excellent. I carry the sp101 in that holster IWB but I think the chesty puller rig is an option for many of their holsters. A lot of their holsters can be configured different ways, IWB, OWB, shoulder, etc, a definite plus. Check them out, here is link for their Cuda holster, http://shop.simplyrugged.com/ecommerce/Cuda-.cfm?item_id=155&parent=669, there are pics of the chesty puller rig option.   I have a shoulder rig from Black Hills Leather, it is a B7D, here's a link for their shoulder rigs, https://blackhillsleather.com/shoulder-holsters/double-shoulder-rigs.html. Quality was excellent but not sure what budget range you want to stay in. Might be considered a little pricey but that comes with the territory on custom leather work. I ordered it with 2 holsters, 1 for Glock 22, 1 for HK USP40, depending on which one I want to carry, the mags both fit the same mag pouch on the opposite side, saved a little vs. buying 2 separate rigs.   Galco has the Miami Classic and the Jackass rig, I think both are quality rigs and readily available. Check ebay, amazon, gunbroker, etc.you may find a good deal here and there. Optics Planet usually has good pricing on new Galco prodcuts.   What handgun are you going to carry in the shoulder rig? I find that I don't use mine all that much except in the cooler months of the year and I only use it for full size duty weapons. I keep it on a hanger in my closet. My wife was giving me a hard time one day and looked in the closet while I was trying to pick out something nice to wear for us to go out, and she said, "well you can always wear this shoulder holster with those overalls". They were hanging next to each other in my closet, probably not the look I was going for. If I remember right it was IWB with polo shirt & jeans.   Sorry about your eyesight, hope the zoom thing Oh Shoot showed you helps out. You may need it to read my long winded reply.
  23. Hey Spots, how much are you going to sell the North Korean friendship bracelets for? Maybe somebody would want to buy them and then resell them at a high mark-up, just kidding. This thread has gotten pretty serious so I thought maybe some humor was in order to lighten things up.   On a serious note, I do not like to see others taking advantage of the situation to make a profit, regardless of what the product or service is, but in this case nobody is forcing the buyers to buy the overpriced item. I think of it as a what goes around comes around thing myself and I know I would not want to be on the coming around end of something like that, but that's just me.
  24. Thanks, for the info guys. I was not aware of the issues with Dicks after Sandy Hook. I knew it was not that great of a price but was merely passing along that they had some on the shelf at a decent price and Walmart was out.    I am new to TGO and I am still learning my way around the forums, but I have been enjoying every minute of it so far, lotta great info.   I think RED333 has it figured out, cast your own, self sufficiency has many benefits.
  25. +1 on CDNN. Have made several purchases from them, very good to deal with, and great pricing. I picked up a few of the offbrand glock mags just to see what they were like. They were less than $5 back when I got them so I could not resist. Ok so far, I will stick to factory glock mags for carry since I have plenty of them as well. I needed a few extra to pair up with my glock mag sub2000. I think they even had a good price on used leo trade in factory glock mags back then also. Not sure what they have at the moment, need to check them out.   I have never dealt much with cheaper than dirt but here lately when I look at their stuff I think the price of dirt must have went up.
