  1. Welcome back to the forums.   Tough spot you are in ZenDog. If your style of dress permits it I think carrying concealed on the body would be best all around for your situation. I keep my SP101 in my desk drawer but I have the L shaped desk between me and the other person so it is a little different scenario. I do not get a lot of visitors in my office generally anyway and as far as I know they are not mentally ill. I would not feel good about having a handgun hidden in the recliner, seems too unsecure and at the same time hard to access quickly depending on how it is hidden.    The briefcase shield is a good idea no matter how you decide to carry or store the handgun.   Not sure if I would want to sit in the hotseat across from Thundersnow's recliner mounted taser, shock therapy anyone, just kidding.   Do you normally wear a suit or sport jacket? If you do then you may need to search for your ideal carry weapon and holster and just make it part of your daily dress. I have a shoulder holster rig but I very seldom wear a jacket all day so I don't wear it often. Ankle carry is also suited to sitting down so that might be another option, not the best but something to think about. I tend to pocket carry or iwb when carrying during work. The next best idea is the day planner because you can keep it with you and it does not look out of place.   +1 for the close quarters handgun training and also having a coordinated plan with your other office staff.
  2. Kyle, it seems your request for suggestions has turned into an argument to convince others of your views. There are a lot of great options out there that fit your need for an inexpensive SHTF rifle. If you truly want to hear the other's opinions you might do better just taking in what they are suggesting instead of attempting to tear them down.    I have run across a lot of knowledgeable guys on the forums here at TGO. Whether it be an AR platform, levergun, M1, bolt action, etc I am sure many can speak from experience about firearms they either currently own or have owned in the past, or that they may have used during military service or on the job as an leo. To effectively make use of this vast knowledge one may have to set aside his own views for a minute and consider what is being said. "Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you'd have preferred to talk." Doug Larson.   Good luck with your quest for a .308 SHTF rifle.
  3. I think you might want to edit the title of this thread and remove the word inexpensive and add .308 in it's place. You are starting to loose me, expense wise at least, with the polymer stocks, optics, battle tested, detachable magazines, etc. This seems like a lot of requirements for an inexpensive SHTF rifle.   Nothing wrong with what you are talking about for your rifle but seems that expense, or at least trying to stay around $300 my idea of inexpensive, is not a real factor here and I think you have already decided on .308. Not giving you a hard time but it might help to get suggestions that are more in line with what you are into. Just my 2 cents.
  4.   I have both of these combinations. I liked the idea of the long gun/ handgun SHTF combo in the same caliber. For the less than 200 yard range I don't really see the need for .308 unless reaching out further distances. The handgun rounds will surprise you coming out of a longer barrel especially the .357mag.   .38/ .357- Marlin 1894C & Ruger GP100 DAO 4" stainless old Canadian Mounted Police service revolver   .40- Glock 22 & Keltec Sub2000 with plenty of 15rd mags & happy sticks   Other ideas are the Marlin Camp 45 or 9 and Ruger PC9 or 40 and their companion pistols.   Nothing wrong with 30-30, I would think ammo would be fairly common but it is not cheap. I have seen a few 30-30's for around $300 give or take. I paid $200 for my Marlin 336 30-30 but that was 15 years ago. Granted the .357 levergun is not as common and will cost a little more. Seems like you could find something in your budget range easy enough.
  5. As a newcomer I did not understand why the images were restricted in this way. I do not have a photobucket account and many of the times I wanted to post an image I just decided it was not really worth the hassle at the time.
  6. Listen to Red, not worth the risk, just replace! Boom!   V with wavy line=AC volts, V with straight or dash line=DC volts   There is much more to testing a battery accurately than measuring the surface charge with a voltmeter.
  7. What kind of plugs are you running? My Fords do best on the cheap regular plugs Autolite or Motorcraft, don't bother with the expensive platinum, iridium, etc exotic plugs. Make sure to check the gap, I think it is .044 on the duraspark ignition setup if I am remembering right. You may also have too cold of a plug or a weak coil. I have a crane ignition box and aftermarket coil on a 351w and I opened the gaps up to .050.   If you have another coil laying around it might be worth trying it to rule out weak spark from the coil. I have seen this happen a few times. I got a later model square type coil and mounted it on the firewall to get away from the engine heat.
  8. How much was the 1400 round bucket? Did they have a lot of them in stock? I usually run mini mags in the daughter's mosquito & I have a 10/22. Good to know they work well in those guns. I might have to make a trip to the mountain.
  9. Got the same story from the Alcoa Walmart after church today. They say the same guys are there every morning at 06:00 waiting for them to put it out on the shelf at 07:00 and then the guys scarf it up.   Anybody seeing 22 in the Knoxville, Maryville, Alcoa area at other places beside Walmart? I checked Dicks across the highway a few times and got the same story from them. I still have some stored up from over the years but have been using some of it lately teaching the nephew to shoot. I am not hurting for it but I would p/u a brick or 2 if available.   I don't agree with the reselling.

    Books

I have been reading the detective books by author Robert B. Parker. I have read all the Jesse Stone and Sunny Randal series and I am reading Spenser now, You may have seen the tv movies based on the Jesse Stone books starring Tom Selleck.   I have enjoyed reading these books very much. Very easy reading, great author. I think he also has some western themed books as well as the detective ones. http://www.robertbparker.net/
  11. If I see a snake in the church service I am attending the only thing I will be hunting is the door.
  12. It comes premixed in the kool-aid.
  13. I just got one of these from PSA, http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/complete-uppers/m4-premium-16-cmv-chrome-lined-stripped-upper-without-bcg-or-charging-handle.html. It came in last week and looks great. It's chrome lined, I thought $299 was a deal, it will go on one of my TGO lowers. Have not decided what the other will be yet.
  14. It could also be an ignition problem. I had a weak coil on my 86 F250 351W that took forever to figure out, it ran decent but would take spells of being hard to start and would sputter and stumble sometimes. I kept thinking it was fuel related, fuel filter, carb, fuel pump etc.. It might not hurt to check it out. I know it seems to be fuel related since it ran out of fuel but you never know it could be weak spark, check cap & rotor, wires also.   What carb are you running?
  15. I guess I will continue to walk for exercise in my driveway like I have been doing. In fact I need to head on out there now since it has warmed up some.   A little different after hearing his side of the story.   Agreed showing DL might have prevented this from going further but a DL is not required for a walk in the park. DL is for operating a vehicle. Does GA law require a picture id to be carried and presented along with their hcp?    Looks like some lessons learned all around but I do not want to go through something like this so I stick to CC and keep my id, hcp on me at all times. in 11 years of carrying I have never been asked for my hcp or even had an opportunity to present it to an officer and hope it stays that way. I'll just buy my own AR lower with my money and save a lot of headache.   I see no need to lock this thread, it seems to be civil and constructive so far. I am sure GA carry related topics concern some TGO members that live close to the border or travel to GA on a regular basis.   Just my 2 cents, I'm going out in the driveway to get some exercise now.

  19.   5th grade for me.    I picked up one of these http://store.oldgrouch.biz/molleiiflcvest.html it is the usgi issue molle II FLC vest. you can add or move around any molle compatible pouches as needed. I have not got it totally outfitted but it looks like what I am going for. I got the late model with the zipper up the front. It said it was used but mine was brand new still in the plastic. Maybe some of the military guys on here have used these before and can give a review of actually wearing one. The price was right on it so I thought I would try it out. There is a lot of adjustment and it is a one size fits all. There is no belt and it rides kind of high so you can still use a belt of some kind if you want to. Old Grouch Surplus is top notch to deal with.
  20. I could not agree more.
  21. I have not had any since I was on a hiking trip in Boy Scouts 25+ years ago. They were good from what I remember.
  22. Just ran into this thread, better late than never.   I was watching Hawaii Five-O when I registered on TGO. For those who have never seen it, Lt. Commander Steve McGarrett is the main character on the show. I am a big fan of the old detective shows and I also like the new reboot of 5-0.
  23. I ran into this with my daughter and after a while we determined she is left eye dominant. She shoots right handed but sights with her left eye. We have experimented a little with both eyes open also. That reminds me I need to get her out to shoot sometime.
  24. +1 for Simply Rugged. I have the Silver Dollar Pancake model for my SP101 and really like it, great quality and price. I have been considering a Cuda for a while now. Not sure how hight the Cuda rides but it looks like it would be low, since it is able to go IWB or OWB. I carry my SP101 IWB in the pancake holster.   Sounds like you may have found what you are looking for PackinMama but I thought I would let you know I also had a good experience with Simply Rugged.
