  1. Welcome to TN and TGO!
  2. Welcome back!
  3. My order for DSG Arms came in today. Everything was there just as I ordered and was packed well. No problems & great deals. Will be ordering from them again for sure. They seem to have a lot of Magpul items in stock with excellent pricing.
  4. I like it!
  5. Not too shabby. I may need to come over with swim615 and borrow something from the fridge also.
  6. It's time to take out the trash!   +1 for staying out of the alley. Situational awareness is the key here and keep your distance, anyone coming into your personal space should be perceived as a potential threat. It's hard to have eyes in the back of your head though, the girl never had a chance. If you look like an easy target you already are one.
  7. My wife volunteers for a local cat organization and they have a program for feral cats called TNR, trap, neuter, and release. Maybe that would work.   Just stack on some more probation to the career criminal and that will help for sure. They are back on the street committing more crimes before their current case is decided in many instances. I agree with Garufa that property crime is not taken serious enough in many cases.
  8. More than likely the reason is because it is so ugly.   Sorry but I am partial to AR's so I would just keep it and pass on the trade.
  9. A lot of good advice from the others, I don't have much to add. I have a 5 shot 38spl J frame Model 36 LadySmith by the bed, excellent home defense nightstand gun in my opinion. It is really my wife's gun, she does not carry and does not shoot very much, just not really her thing. Our kids are grown up now but still live at home, 17 & 19, so our situation is a little different than yours. They grow up fast.   +1 for flashlight, outdoor motion lights, security system, dog, rosebush, training. Home defense is not only about the weapon but it is a frame of mind. Planning, strategy, practice, etc go along way.   It's great that you are seeking advice and reading up on things. Don't worry about the deadline of the trip, just work at your own pace and things will come together.
  10. I have a Marlin 1894C in 38/ 357 and love it. Can't say on the others but get what you want. I hear good things about Henry rifles but I have not really heard anything negative on the Uberti or Winchester.
  11. I am fortunate enough to work 6 miles away from my house with no water to cross. I occasionally go into Knoxville and if caught out over there would have to cross the water to get back.   I have a new found respect for cold water, i recently had to get in the pool to remove the steps to complete the winterization and put the cover on. It was late in Oct but the water temp was 45 and the outside temp was 40. Trust me it is a shock to your system to say the least.   A few years I had to walk home during an ice storm, approx 2 miles in very hilly terrain carrying by BOB and walking in the woods and the ditches, could not stand up on the road, at about 2am in freezing temps with rain/ snow mix coming down. took about 2.5 hours to walk it. Definitely some good experience to aid in my planning for these scenarios.   +1 on the contractor bags, multitude of uses and they pack well and are fairly light.
  12. Several lever action rifles that might fit the bill for the inexpensive SHTF rifle are in the TGO firearms classifieds today. A few 30-30 and one sweet .44. I know Kyle may be going another direction with his SHTF rifle but some of the others following this thread may be interested.
  13. Am I remembering wrong or was it mentioned that the child has special needs? I can see why he would want to come to walk with the child especially in that circumstance.   Regardless of the protocol for child pickup this matter seems like something that the parents should be discussing across the desk from the principal and not being harassed and arrested by the SRO for no reason. Requesting to get your child from school at the front office is not a crime and it seemed in the video the guy was being civil and reasonable with the lady at the office handling the paperwork. This seems like a purely civil matter with no need for LEO involvement but the LEO keeps escalating the situation even though the guy remains calm.   I think SRO's can be an asset to the school but in this instance he seems more of a liability.
  14. I ran across this quote earlier today and I thought it applied perfectly to this situation.   The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits. Albert Einstein
  15. I just found they have colored Gen2 no window Pmags, FDE, Foliage or OD green for 8.99 also, black is 12.99. Seems like some really good deals. I have never dealt with them before but I am about to place my order soon and try them out.   EDIT: Price just went back to 12.99 on the colored Pmags at midnight.
  16. Welcome to TGO!
  17. I have had good luck with RGuns, http://www.rguns.net/, and PSA, http://palmettostatearmory.com/. I have bought uppers from both. I have a polymer lower on the Rguns upper and I am waiting for the TGO lowers to arrive for the PSA upper I just bought. Just watch out, it's additive.
  18. My wife goes to the LDS store, not sure what they call it, in Knoxville. They have really good prices on bulk and canned food items. She brought back the same list. We are not Mormon but they are open to the public. I am sure they must have them in other cities as well. She said Knoxville is phasing out the bulk stuff and everything will be in the large #10 cans after the bulk is sold out.   I agree that is a well rounded plan for sure and I like how it is spread out over the whole year. Although I am not Mormon I do respect their beliefs on preparedness.
  19. Just ran across this today while trying to find the best deals for a Magpul buttstock kit, http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/MGMOEKITOD.aspx. Seems like a really good deal and says free shipping also. They have some other good deals as well, but this is what I am thinking of for my TGO lower/ PSA upper build.   Anybody deal with DSG Arms before?
  20. Welcome to TGO!
  21. Great story! May we never forget the sacrifices that are made to protect our freedom.
  22. Even with the long gun locked I am concerned they might just steal the whole truck if the long gun is visible. I am sure many of my long guns are worth ad much or more than the trucks I drive most of the time. Not bragging about the long guns, just old trucks.   I may add the Keltec Sub2000 to my bug out gear, since it folds i can store it out of sight in my bag easily.   Thanks for the input guys.
  23. I mentioned this in the Get Home Gun thread but thought it best to start a new topic. I would like to hear from any hcp holders who are carrying long guns in their vehicle on a regular basis.   Since it is now legal to carry a loaded long gun, with empty chamber, for hcp holders, is anyone doing it? Anybody been in a traffic stop or other leo encounter with their long gun in the vehicle? I was not sure if the leo's are up to speed on this law change involving hcp and long guns.   If have considered adding my Keltec Sub2000 to my bug out gear that I carry with me in my vehicle but have not done it yet.
  24. I have 2 handgun/ long gun combos that fit this scenario.   .40- Glock 22 & Keltec Sub2000 with 15 rd mags and happy sticks .38/ .357 Ruger GP100 4" DAO stainless & Marlin 1894C levergun   I do not currently carry these in my BOB or vehicle. My bag is getting fairly heavy already. I am carrying my HK USP .40 & Keltc P32 with extra mags for both along with the usually bug out gear. I have to switch vehicles often due to on-call schedule and driving service truck home so I have been trying to keep my items fairly low key and concise. I do not like leaving much in the vehicle I am not driving due to the vehicle not being very secure.   This thread is making me think more about carrying the Sub2000 & Glock in my bag. You may want to look into the Sub2000, I really like it and the fact that it folds makes it great for this setup. Not sure I want to deal with trying to carry around my AR for the issues I described above. I could however keep it locked in my office, my business is 6 miles away from home and I usually am thinking of how I would get home from the office during one of these scenarios. Makes you think.   I know it is now legal to carry long guns with empty chamber with your hcp. Anybody doing it? Has anyone been in an encounter with leo with a long gun in the vehicle? I am sure that many leo are not up to speed on this change to the law even though it went in effect a while ago. Edit: I may start a separate topic on this subject did not want to hijack this thread
  25.     "World ain't what it seems is it, Gunny? You keep that in mind. The moment you think you got it figured, you're wrong."   Couldn't resist, the scene when they talk to Levon Helm's character in Athens, TN is a favorite of mine.
