  1. There is a nice plate carrier w/ AR500 plates in the classifieds. It is in your area if I remember right. I think it was Chief465 that had it listed, good price too, I think it was $175. Search the gear classifieds and see if he still has it.   Edit: just found the one in the classifieds, sorry but it looks like Chief already sold his
  2. I'm not sure there is a "right" amount of ammo to keep on hand. It would be up to each individual to make that decision. To me it's kind of like firewood, food, water, or anything else I keep around the house. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.   The amount of ammo I keep has nothing to do with plans for firefights or zombie attacks.   That reminds me I better bring in some more firewood.
  3. Thanks for the info Dolomite. I may try them out soon if funds permit.
  4. I am shopping for a barrel to complete my TGO black rifle build and was looking at Green Mountain. Anybody know much about their barrels? Their prices look good and they seem to have what I am looking for in stock. Just wanted to hear from anyone who has dealt with them.   I am leaning toward a 20" 1 in 8, 5.56, http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/back-in-stock-m16a2-5-56mm-20-barrel-with-extension-1-8-twist/
  5. Cover of The Rolling Stone, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show.   I get on Grooveshark, http://grooveshark.com/, and set up my own playlist and listen to it while I am working on the computer at the office. Mostly 70's stuff, Allman Brothers, CCR, The Eagles, Skynrd, The Band, The James Gang, Three Dog Night, etc.
  6. Here's a link to a place called emergency essentials that sells water storage barrels; http://beprepared.com/water-barrel-55-gallon-drum.html. Not sure if that is a good price but they are reputable and my wife has bought from them several times.
  7. I live in Louisville, TN, it is rural but still close to the airport, less than 5 miles, and you can be to Downtown Knoxville in 20 minutes. I have lived in Blount County since 1976 and really like it. The fire station is about 2 miles away.
  8. My church currently meets in a public school gym so carry is prohibited. They are planning a building project and will be breaking ground soon so that may change for me in the next year or so. I have never carried in church before so that would be new to me. I do not know many people there well enough to know their feelings on cc. I may have to research that. I kind of have mixed feelings on the subject myself but I would not hold anything against anyone else carrying in church but it might not be for me.   I remember a church shooting a few years ago in Knoxville, http://www.foxnews.com/story/2008/07/28/cops-say-church-shooting-suspect-hated-gays-liberals/. It does make you think.
  9. I got 129 & 130, 1 upper & 1 BCG. Great deal all around. Thanks to CMT, MacGyver and everyone else that helped with this group buy. My experience with groups, everyone wants it until it's time to pay for it, then you get the smaller % that actually pay up. I would have bought my limit if funds had permitted but i got enough to keep me occupied for a while.   I used 129 with a PSA M-4 16" 1-7 upper. I am waiting on funds for a nice 18" or 20" barrel to go with 130 & the TGO upper & BCG. i used PSA parts kits and got the Magpul furniture kits from DSGArms. I went with od green furniture on the one I put together.
  10. Food storage for the "command center". The weapons storage must be out of view.
  11. I'm not big on groups but it might not hurt to meet fellow TGO members in the area and get to know them.   +1 on what Static said.
  12. Creek, my son is type 1 also. He was diagnosed in 2006 so I can identify totally with your situation. You are doing the same things we are as far as educating ourselves and storing up supplies. We have a cabinet for supplies that looks about like yours. My son is 20 now so he manages the day to day issues of his diabetes well but we still are concerned about what would happen in shtf situation.   I hope and pray everyday that these scenarios we are preparing for never happen. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
  13. I put got od green magpul furniture for my recent ar build. DSG Arms had some good prices on the items as a kit. http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/MGMOEKITOD.aspx.   I was very pleased with this purchase from them. They also have foliage green and flat dark earth in these kits. I was able to get free shipping back when i ordered this last year, not sure if that promo is still going on.
  14. We just got a Berkey filter and we have several barrels, jugs, etc with water stored inside. The above ground pool should also provide a lot of water if needed. We also have a well but the pump is electric.   Clean drinking water is definitely high on the list during one of these scenarios.
  15. +1 for Mike and PSA. I have also had good experience with RGuns.

    Sub 2000

Hey Brasco, I think he's just being sarcastic. If my memory serves me right Bert's a KT fan.   I have a sub2k .40 that takes Glock mags, I like it, good reliable shooter for sure.
  17. I hope the guy at the cell phone store knows more about phones than he does about carry permit law.
  18. My order from 12/2 just arrived on 1/6. I think they are just running way behind due to the volume of orders. Probably the lower will arrive later on.
  19. I have a Marlin 1894C levergun in 38/ 357. It's my favorite. I also have a Marlin 336 in 30-30. I'd say for $1,000 you can pick up 2 lever rifles if you shop around and maybe even have some change left over. I have about $700 in both of these rifles.
  20. Sounds like they were up to no good. Maybe your gf won't notice if you drill a hole in the Christmas sign so you can use the peephole. Good policy, don't open the door. Even if they were legitimate I'm sure you don't want to waste a bunch of time talking about cleaning supplies or whatever else they are selling at the time.   Glad I live out in the country. In the 22 years I've lived in the Louisville, TN area I've only had one person knock on the door after dark and it was a Blount County Sheriff's Deputy telling me a car ran through the fence down at the road and asking who owned the horses. I can count on 1 hand the ones that knocked during the daytime. I'm lucky to live where I do.The long driveway deters folks I guess.
  21. +1 on what peejman said. You can do it yourself without too much trouble.
  22. Good show. I watched all the episodes. Definitely my kind of show. I got it on dvd from netflix.
  23. Here's the truck you need, Ferd F-teenthousand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8P5vGcf-NU
  24. It seems fairly accurate. It picked Little Rock, AR, Chatt. TN, or Columbus, GA. I was born and raised in East TN so it's not too far off base.   Hey RebCowboy, I think if it doesn't work it means your from GA.
