Red flag laws claim their first victim
bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yep, an armed robbery that turned into much much more than it should have. They should have had a warrant of some kind to give the man instead of just telling him they were there to disarm him. I hope his family sues everyone connected to this crime cause that is what it is. That will probably be the only way to get it in front of the Supreme Court..............JMHO -
If a person places a 22 LR round in the right place a bad guy will go down like a ton of bricks. NO, IT IS NOT a self defense weapon but can be as deadly as any hand gun out there in the right hands of someone with knowledge of bullet placement..........JMHO

Red flag laws claim their first victim
bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ok so I will admit I am dumb when it comes to some of this but doesn't laws need to go through the process of House-Senate-President and signed by President before it is law? Especially when the law is unconstitutional to begin with!!!! -
Does TN have special taxes on Ammo?
bersaguy replied to ChanceMcCall's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have been kicking around buying a little ammo but I would have to buy another ammo safe because I cannot get another 50 round box of 22lr's in my other one much less any 380's. I might get tempted if I find a sale on either 22lr's or 380's but it would really have to be on sale............... -
Yea , that was a big ship and Mother Nature had no mercy on it what so ever.

Sorry I could not give you better information but deer hunting land is hard to come by and unless your in a lease with a few guys of personally know someone that owns some land you pretty much out of luck for this year. If your going to live here locally don't give up as there is always next year and you will have till next year to find some land to hunt.

2018 Muzzleloader Season is upon us!!!
bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I can remember hunting with a buddy of mine in Muzzle loader back years ago and I can tell you this. When he shot one they didn't walk anywhere. We where hunting the Islands on Percy Priest Lake before they added them to Long Hunter Park and he was up in a tree stand surrounded with Cedar branches and I was down the ridge was him about 40 yards. I saw this big 8 point walking on top of the ridge and knew it was going to walk within 15 to 20 yards right in front of him. Sure nuff, I saw his Hawkins barrel come out of the cedar branches so I focused on the deer though my scope. When he fired I watched the deer get pushed about 5 feet straight side ways and fall down. Never even kicked. He hit the deer in left front shoulder and needless to say front shoulders were junk. Just to let folks know Steve was a meat hunter and he couldn't get a neck shot which is were he prefers to shoot a deer so he took what he had. He is a big guy and he uses maximum powder load the gun will handle and hand casts his own bullets and they are very soft and expand to about the size of a silver dollar when he takes them out of the deer. Many times he saves them and makes new rounds out of them. Steve lived off the land and if he didn't hunt food he grew it in a huge garden and he as his wife canned food they grew. He didn't own much more than the small house they lived in and the 200 acres of land he owned. Wife coked on a wood stove and they heated with wood. Drove and old Ford truck or his tractor around his land. He never had a land line phone but did buy two cheap Cell phones back years ago so he and his wife could keep in touch with each other and a few friends. Never owned a computer. I have not talked to him is several years. Tried calling him a couple times with no luck. He lives about 90 mles from me so I don't go visit. Don't even know if he is still alive. -
2018 Muzzleloader Season is upon us!!!
bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I had something very similar back years ago when I was still hunting. It was during Gun season and my son had come up to visit back when he lived a 150 miles away and had the grandbabies. It was an unexpected surprise and he ask if I had been doing any hunting and I said yea, going in the morning and he said I would go along but didn't bring a gun so I told him he could use the Savage 308 and I use my Marlin 30/30. I had taken a deer earlier that day with the 30/30 and it was at the processors. That shot was about 60 yards in a hayfield that really needed cutting. Went to the same stand and son to another. About 7:30 an 8 point chasing three does busted out of the woods into the field behind the does. The does stopped a few seconds and he stopped and I got 1 shot at about 80 yards and missed. all the deer ran right at me at first not knowing which way the short came from and then stopped again and I popped another round off and missed again at about 60 yards. They discovered where the shots were coming from and turned right towards my Son at a dead run across the field. Just before they entered the woods I was watching through my scope when I saw the buck go down and about a second later heard the shot. Heard that crack the bullet makes in flight then heard that thump like a bullet sounds when it his a big watermelon. I saw him climb down so I climbed down to go help him with his deer. It was just a short walk back to the house to get the pickup truck rather than do all that dragging. Now I cannot explain why I missed that deer twice with the same gun I killed a deer with the day before. Later that day son and I went out to a field I had set up with a picnic bench and sand bags @ 80 yards and I sent 10 rounds down range at gallon milk jugs of water we had drove down and put up as targets. Busted 1st 5 dead on. Missed #6 and hit the 4x4 wood under the jug and hit the next 3 and the same thing on #10. In the board just below the jug. Next time I took 30/30 I missed another deer so I knew it was new scope time. I don't know what was going on with the scope except it was off and on and not trustworthy enough for me to want to hunt with. -
Yea, That McCain Vote broke my heart but for some reason and I don't know what it is but I had a gut feeling knowing they needed just 1 last vote to make it work I knew when he walked out on the Senate Floor he would make history that morning with a no vote. He was dying and knew he was dying and evidently he had a secret beef with the American people and this was his chance to get even and he did.

With the outcome of the last election I am wondering if our votes are really being counted. There were a lot of elections being called very early in the night? Last Tuesday people where still lined up a mile from getting their vote in and their election was already called for some of who tey were planning on voting for.. That would tell me they didn;t need my vote so why bother???? I think they should wait till all the returns are in an counted or at least 90% of the districts counted before calling one. Hell they are still counting votes in Florida and the election was 4 days ago. I know this happened back in the Gore election in 2000 and the Supreme Court Stepped in and ended that one in December. You would have thought by now Florida would have come up with a better system of counting or voting by now.

Well I am sorry for your friends MIL but evidently someone is not doing their job. My Daughter is an RN at a facility that works primarily with Alzheimers and the elderly and according to talks we have had people suffering from Alzheimers are for the most part non violent easy to work with patients that mostly require just the basic care such as dressing and eating and most normal everyday essentials. Maybe they might want to search out another facility.

According to the reports that were released. Yes, he was in custody for domestic Violence and taken to jail. Yes he was held for observation by a Mental Crisis Team for 24 hours. The team decided he was not unstable enough to hold him and the state was California and I am not sure how their laws read on what is to unstable and requires holding a person.
-
Well I can see your point but what about the lawsuits that might follow if people realizes they had this guy in custody in April and he was examined by a Mental Crisis Group that stated he did have issues but they didn't feel it would be enough to hold him longer than the observation period and now we see how wrong they were about him. Maybe had they held him a little longer and studied him a little more. You know, do the homework they might have saw the side of him that came out in the Bar the other night an prevented it. What is more important? Worring about lawsuits that might or might not happen or worrying about a man that has dangerous tendencies being turned back out into society? They already knew he was violent is why the police had him in the first place. He was in a rampage and kicking holes if the walls of the house! Did they check his facebook posts while they had him. Even back in High School when they had him sign in the section of future plans he printed the word DEATH in all caps. I know you said you fear RED FLAGS but maybe ever so often they are right..............JMHO

And how long ago was when the State of Tennessee got out of the mental health business. I bet it was before we have the technology of today. As far as a person with Alzheimer's should not be placed in a mental facility to begin with. They are not mentally ill. They are forgetful and need to be in a nursing homes or depending on how much attention they need maybe an Assisted Living Facility but not a Mentally Ill facility. If the Authorities were as concerned about mental health as some claim to be let them use all this technology we have that sends men to the moon and give folks Satelite TV and all these other fancy gadgets. Let them get their focus on building some State of the Art Mental Health facilities that will actually do what they are suppose to do. Show folks that they do have people capable of doing something positive with our tax beside give themselves raises and sit on the a$$.

The news said earlier that he had a few run ins with the law prior to joining the Marine Corps and said that he seemed to have mental issues off and on and they don't think he was suffering from PTSD when he made the decision to shoot up the Club. They think he went there because he thought his ex-girlfriend might be there. At least they are coming up with some information on the invesgation and being transparent with them.

Bredesen only carry 3 countys. Shelby, Knox and Davidson. I guess Shumer thought he would carry all 95 counties again like he did as Governor. Well, looks like politics have changed in Tennessee since those days..........JMHO

I have no clue about after market vehicle insurance these days since I have been out of the repair business for some time. I can tell you some horror stories about the ones that were around back 25 years ago. They were all rip offs. I had customers that had purchased them and paid big bucks for them and got zero or almost zero in return when they had a claim. I am quite sure things have probably changed a lot in 25 years. My son took over the business when I became disabled as far as being able to work on vehicles and he has told me of a couple times his customers had claims and ended up getting lawyers and sueing the company to get their money back or their bill paid. My son does all general repairs but specializes in Rebuilding Transmissions and the cost to build the transmissions would almost make you want to just buy a new vehicle. I was down at his shop one day and he had just fnished rebuilding to Automatic transmission in a Volkswagon Beetle and I was looking at the bill. $4,734.00 and he did it at $1000,00 less than a dealer quoted the customer. The guys aftermarket warranty company would only pay $1500.00 of it leaving the customer to pay the difference. The customer was just going to trade it in on another Beetle as it was his daughters car but she loved the car so he fixed it. Thats about all I know about after market warranties but I do hope they have improved since I was turning wrenches.

Well I guess I can agree with you on this but when they went to the house for domestic disturbance they had grounds to arrest him and they had a Mental Help Crisis Team examine him and they could have had him placed in a facility for observation. People that knew him saw issues in him developing. They say if you see something say something and when people say something nothing gets done. I will say this which chances of it happening is slim to none because I don't go to places where these things happen but say I did. You can bet if I am there and packing I'm shooting at the bad guy until one of us stops the other or we both run out of ammo. I would be hoping there were another good guy or 2 show pretty quick.

Ok, more news has been released about the shooter. Back in April he was diagnosed with PTSD by doctors after the police had to go back to his mothers home where he lived on what police said was numerous times for his violent out bursts. He would kick holes in the house walls. They recomended he seek help for his issues and he refused several times. People that knew him could see him changing and his personality had went from bad to worst in the last couple month. There was RED FLAGS waving all over this guy. See paragraph below from Sheriff Dean below: I wonder how this so called Mental Health Crisis Team is looking back to April now???? In April, Dean said his department was called to Long's home because of a domestic dispute, where he was "somewhat irate and acting irrationally." A mental health crisis team concluded that Long didn't need to be taken into custody at the time.

I have said in the past a couple times that a person with training with a heavy caliber hand gun in a crowded venue such as a club like last night would be able to kill as many or more than someone with an AR and an example of that took place last night. Blaming the gun is not the answer but you wil never convince the politicians of that. They had this guy in their hands last April and knew he was suffering with some mental issues. It has not been made clear yet when and where he got the gun he used. Did he already have it when they were investigating him or did he get it after they turned him loose. I don't think that questiion has been asked yet. If so I missed it. It won't change anything now but would be interesting to know the answer to that question.

10 rounds 13 rounds 20 round magazines makes almost zero difference in the hands of an average trained person. I have practiced reloading many times and with my Bersa's I can swap magazines in average 5 seconds and be back on target. Any one with practice can have 10 round mags and if he has 5 of them he has 50 rounds of ammo to work with and a pause total of 25 seconds total in 5 second intervals. I have never understood the Magazine laws to begin with as they are useless to begin with. Criminals are going to ignore them to begin with...........JMHO
