  1. I am using an AT&T Hot Spot for my internet but mine is not wireless. It plugs into a USB port on the computer and I get 10 gb's for $50.00 a month and I never get even close to using that much. When it began I was getting 3 Gb's and then after about 2 years it went up to 5GB and I didn't ask for it. They just raised it and the cost remained the same. Last year it went up to 10GB and again the price remained the same. I can unplug it from desk top and plug it into laptop and it works just as good.
  2. I don't actually own much property I would shoot someone over if they were trying to steal it. Now Darby on the other hand is a family member and messing with her you can possibly figure on getting shot. If you are in my house and not suppose to be you can also plan on getting shot. I did go out it the back yard for a few minutes to pop off a few caps at targets SIL has set out against a berm and I learned one thing. Darby was almost impossible to find and I finally found her in the house under the bed in her safe spot where she goes when it thunders. I left the door cracked and she opened it when she went in the house. Have not got her Doggie door in yet but I taught her how to nose open the door and I leave it cracked about 3 inches and she opens it with her nose and comes in. Now if I could just teach her to close it back things would be great..............
  3. As far as computer security I have Bitdefender on both of them so I don't worry to much about security any longer. I am going to pick up my rebuilt refirbished computer this weekend but won't be putting it online till it gets closer to January.
  4. Gosh!!! was not expecting to open up a can of worms but glad to see so many folks willing to help. I use to have a friend that owned a small computer repair shop and he would take trade ins on new sales and was located in Hendersonville TN. About 2 years ago he moved into a small strip mall near Rivergate Mall and He is where I purchased this desk top I am using now. It is an E-Machine per say but he actually took and E machine and built a bascially complete new computer and he had it for sale out in the sales are and was asking $299.00 but I got it for 200.00 cash and I have been using it for 10 years trouble free. I think I might call him and se if he is still in business and see if he has another rebuilt one like this one with windows 10 on it and see what I can buy it for if he has one. Ok problem is solved. I just spoke with Shawn and he has 4 desktop computers he has built or rebuilt and all have 7 at present and he is asking $339.00 for them. He said he would boost the ram for me on the best one he has and put 10 on it and I can have it $250.00 and he will have it ready in a week. I want to thank everyone here for your response and like I said in opening post. When I need to find help I know I can count on folks here. Bersaguy aka Doug
  5. It is my understanding that in January Windows 7 will no longer be supported and folks will be forced to update to Windows 10. My questions are can I have windows 10 installed on this old desk top I am using or do I need to get a new one? Also if I can get it installed on this old machine how much of a change can I expect between 7 and 10. Is it a big change or does it operate pretty much like windows 7? I am sure there are folks here probably using windows 10 already that were windows 7 users before updating. I am not a computer Guru so I have to ask. If anyone can offer up some information a dummy can understand it would be greatly appreciated. I come here to ask these questions because I trust folks on this site to be upfront and honest. Any help will be greatly appreciated Bersaguy aka Doug
  6. I have no clue what Roku is. I don't keep up with all the new stuff being offered. I'm not really an electrnoic guru about all the stuff offer these days. I have two indoor antennas I was using in the last place and on a good clear day I can get a few channels really clear. Channel 2, MeTv, Justice channels come in well on Living room Tv and Bedroom Tv gets ION really good as long as there is no rain between here and Franklin and I am happy with ION to watch at night before bed. Tommy said we can look at an out door antenna being moved from his house to mine and me trying it out. He said he didn't get but a few channels when they used it but he also lives in a house surrounded by huge trees and my back yard which is also the direction of most broadcasting towers are in is all open and has no trees. He said they don't watch TV anyway so he will try and get it moved this weekend to back of my house. I guess we will see if that works. It is suppose to pick up stations 150 miles away with a clear view and no trees.
  7. Yea, Tommy said they told him the end of August they will have it this far or farther. I went out to run a few errands and there was a crew working on the side of the road and I stopped and ask them if they were working on Fiber Optics Lines and the forman talked with me and said that by September 30th depending on weather they will have Fiber-Optics in this entire area. I asked him if he knew what servers would be offering service and he said he didn't. They were just contracted to install it. He said the servers will be contacting folks as they get closer to completing the installation of the lines.
  8. She is adjusting well and so far has got to chase 1 rabbit, 1 Squirrel, 4 turkeys and 3 deer. A doe and 2 fawns. the Turkeys have been back twice. Tommy said there are about 3 different small flocks of them and he has seen 2 different ones at the same time in different parts of the yard.
  9. I will be back posting more soon..............
  10. Want to thank all of you for the replies. I will try and asnwer them but if i miss one don't be upset. As far as living in the country. I have lived in the country most of my life when I was younger and loved it. Then I moved to Gallatin, in town and lived there 20 years and would still be there if it was not for the land lord and his idea to renovate all 3 of the units so he can jack up the rent when he rents them next time. I would not mind living in the country again if I was 20 years younger but got use to having stores 10 minutes from my house and use to city noise at night. I did finally get a good nights sleep last night and feel a lot more rested this morning. As far as the Fiber-Optics, I am not holding me breath on it. As long as my AT&T hot spot keeps working here I will have internet. I have been shopping outdoor antenna's so I can get better TV service. I am looking for something with at least 150 mile range. I think I do have satelite options also since both houses here have dish's on them from previous owners so evidently it works. Just need to find out which network was here last time and see if they still offer service in this area. Just about every house on this road has a dish on their houses. I am a long ways from being settled as far as boxes still packed. I have the essentials out and put up and now will take my time on the rest. There is still a few things that Tommy needs to do to the house but I guess those getting done will depend alot on his work schedule. I am going back to Gallatin a couple times this coming week to wrap up some loose ends. Last bills paid, Change of address at post office, going to insurance company and giving them new address, Going to Social Security office and giving them new address, then going by Department of Safety office there and giving them new address and getting new license and new carry permit. I don't think that can be done online but will be easier to just go there and do it. Well, thats about it for now. will update this when I have got things done. Again thanks for the replies. 11. Well it's finally done. I finally got moved to my new home. I now live in Gordonsville Tennessee and back in the country again after 20 years of city life. I forgot what it was like to need something from the store living in the country. It's not a 10 minute trip to grab a few things anymore. The nearest stores are about 12 to 15 miles away. So now I need to get back in the habit of when I go to the store I need to stock up instead of just grabbing a few things. I also am now living in a house I could have put my last house in the living room of. It's a journey just to make it to the coffee pot first thing in the morning!! The kitchen is also huge. Master bedroom is as big as both of the bedrooms in the old house. I have put all of my furniture in the rooms and they still look empty. Getting TV reception is an adventure also. I'm shopping a new antenna this coming week. Need something with more than a 50 mile range on it. Tommy said they are bringing Fiber-Optics lines down this road in about 2 months and I am sure hoping Spectrum is one of the servers on it. If it is I will be getting TV and Internet as son as they can hook me up. Tommy (SIL) says he just wants internet cause they don't watch enough TV to get it. Another thing is I have not got a good nights sleep since I have been here. Not use to it being so quiet at night. Oh well just wanted to bring folks up to date on whats going on in my life..................
  12. +1 !! Wishing everyone here a Happy Independence Day!!!
  13. Well, I don't know about all that stuff but do want to wish all of you Dads a very nice and Happy Daddy's day and hope you are surrounded by family on this day...............
  14. I have not been gun shopping for some time. I might need to do a litle just to see whats out there I might can afford...............
  15. Yes he did get lucky. Probabtion does not teach them anything. All it might do is stop them from doing what they were doing till it's over and many times you hear on the news that the perp violated their probation and was arrested again. The only real way to stop a burglar and home invaders is like the young lady in my previous post. A 9mm or larger, does not have to be a Glock, just any large caliber will work if used properly!!
  16. A friend of mine lived in a subdivision that was having a rash of home breakins and they thought it was kids doing it until one day a young lady was home sick from work and her car was in the garage when they kicked in the back door while she was laying down in a bedroom in the back of the house. She heard them talking and call 911 as she quietly got her Glock 9 mm out of the night stand. She didn't say anything to the 911 operator but theoperator heard all the shots and told the police that shots had been fired. She said later that she was in fear for her life till she got the Glock and then she was in fear of their lives. Her worst fears came true when two big men came running into the bedroom. She never hesitated. she began popping caps and both men went down and a third broke and ran and a neighbor saw them break in and had already called the police and they caught the third guy while he was running for the getaway vehicle. Neither one in the bedroom needed emergency assistance. They needed the coroner wagon and body bags. These were all men in mid to upper 20's. That ended all the home breakins in that subdivision. All it takes is one wrong house and that day they picked the wrong house.
  17. You mentioned you live quite far off the beaten path. My Daughter and SIL's house has been burgularized twice and they also live on a country road off the beaten path. They finally had a security system put in and so far so good but I don't plan on putting one in when I move out there in the back house and my parking area is behind the house so good luck is all I can say...............
  18. There would be zero doubt about what I am going to do if someone is in my house uninvited that should not be there. He will get shot until he is no longer a threat and anyone with him will also be shot until they are no longer a threat unless they are heading for an exit. I won't back shoot any one leaving because they have made the decision to end the threat on their own and the police will already be in route so they will probably catch the other guy fairly fast. That is not to say they may be bleeding cause I will shoot them all as long as they are facing me and a threat. I do have extended magazines with lots of rounds.
  19. I guess that will work but I was thinking more like naming the Tennessee Tree Stumps.............
  20. I have always had the utmost respect for your posts and this one is no different. You have raised some many great points in this post also and being a former police officer I have no doubt that what you say is totally correct. It's just my knowledge of what I have learned over my time in the military that I refer to many times about this subject. And yea, my emotions do play a role in my posts when it comes to some crazy person in a school killing children that would draw me towards the gun fire without hesitation even knowing I might get shot or killed. If I can draw the perps attention away from killing kids long enough to give other officers time to get in place to kill him I have done my part. You mentions a swat team or 10 other members could not stop a crazy person from taking lives if that is their goal and of course you are correct. It is not the fact that we could not stop the shooter from killing or wounding people . The point is to limit the amount of carnage the shooter can do before he is stopped that I am referring to I guess. ..............JMHO
  21. A while back I read a post and someone said that the Construction cones are now call Tennessee Trees I believe. If that is what they cal the cones what do they call the barrels????.............LOL? I drove down Hwy 109 yesterday and I bet they have a couple 1000 barrels lining both sides of the hwy, so just wondering if we have a name for those too?
  22. Thank you Greg and I would like to think I am a better man then him. I have always been a person that in a case where a mass shooter is in a school shooter children that I would run as fast as possible towards the gun fire to try and end the carnage as fast as possible.
  23. If I would have been one of the first responders on the scene and he was trying to stop me from going in I would have ignored him and went in because that is where he should have been was inside and not out side........JMHO
  24. If it is not their job to serve and protect people from harm, especially our children just what are they paid to do and why are they needed at all ??????
