Ok , I can understand hilly twisting roads being an issue but anywhere you choose to move in Tennessee tell your wife to get very use to seeing orange barrels on any road she drives on because Tennessee is known as The State of Road Construction and $500.00 speeding tickets because of those orange barrels...............jmho

The Wise Latina Sticks It To Obamacare
bersaguy replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't have a clue why she did it but I am thrilled that she did. It may not hold but at least someone in the Supreme Court has finally spoke up against it and that is the important issue. I think Roberts is an idiot for ever allowing the law to pass and then call it a tax in the first place knowing the majority of people where against it. I wonder what Obama promised him?........................jmho -
Well, I want to take time out to thank everyone for their input. It has not only been informative but appreciated to see just how charitable minded most folks here are. Now I will share my reason for asking for help on this. Most folks here I think know I lost my oldest son to an automobile accident back in 1990. The accident actually took place in May of 1986. He received a closed head brain Stem injury and was listed as terminal from the night of the accident while in a coma. I had an insurance policy through my employer which back then was called the Rolls Royce policy of BC/BS. It paid up to 3 million dollars or 2 years, which ever came first. 5 months into the ordeal BC/BS notified the hospital telling them that at the end of that month they would no longer be covering his expenses. They decided it would be less costly to fight me in court than pay his bills. A lawyer friend of mine handled that and he made BC/BS begin back tracking with in 5 days and BC/BS decided it would be best to pay his bills and they did. In fact they over paid by almost $80,000.00 in two years to keep my lawyer happy. Strange how hospitals and doctors can milk every dime out of a policy within a time limited period. Anyway at the end of two years he was out of the coma but was a quad, could not speak and was fed through a tube. We had to bring him home and Medicaid equip his room with everything that was needed to sustain his care and sent a nurse out 3 days a week to update any care he may need. I can say one thing right now before I forget. We had and I still have some wonderful friends. During the last 7 months of his life his care became enormous and almost over whelming. In order to prevent bed sores on his body he was rolled from side to side. My wife being a nurse which really helped out and I had to work to keep our home and bills paid buy thank god for our friends. I had about 15 different friends step in and they would show up at all hours of the day and night to help with his care and rolling him. During those last months my wife spent 8 hours a day on the phone calling every charity funded organization that advertised they are here to help. Funny none of them did. We needed to borrow not keep but borrow a bed for him that was designed to prevent bed sores for long term patients. We began with , United Way got a no, Easter Seals, got a no, Red Cross, got a no, Scottish Rights, got a no, Shriners, got a no. Each one gave her another one to try but for a solid week she tried and all she got was no's. I had a buddy that resigned from the Shriners shortly after finding out they told us no because he learned that the Shriner Hospital here in Nashville had 53 of the beds we needed stored in their basement that had never been used because they were never needed but they would not loan us one for the short time my son had left. That is when I learned just how many of these so called Charities really do their jobs and are really out there to help. Few to none. I could not count the times I gave 10 bucks to a Shriner clown selling apples at some store or 10 bucks for one of their newspapers. I can tell you when I quit buying apples and papers. I realize the Shriners Childrens Hospital and Burn Center does a good job at the Hospital but they will do it without my money. My wife and I gave money out of every check for years to united Way. I can tell you when that stopped also. Now with all of that said and I am sorry for the long read but wanted folks to know why I asked about the different Charities that are out there that ya'll do give to that truly do help and the dead beats that don't. i know there are probably a lot of folks on here that have lost loved ones so for them you probably know what it is like to suffer a loss. My situation is not much different than most except I had to watch my son die for 4 years and knew I was totally helpless to do anything to prevent it. I don't think there is a more helpless feeling in the world and I am sure there is a few here that has gone through that also. I just read this and thought about deleting it but I am going to post it. I think I want people to know more about me and why I make some of the decisions to ask some of the questions I do. I thank all of you for your posts about the charities as it will help.

TV series from last year (Last Resort) Nuclear Submarines and Politics
bersaguy replied to a topic in General Chat
Well , saw the 1st two disc's and was impressed about parts and not about others and waiting for 3rd and last disc to arrive to finish watching it all. It does have it's moments and would make you think just how dangerous it could be if a Commander and Captain of a Nuclear Submarine with a full armament of 20 Nuclear missiles and full compliment of torpedoes could in fact hold the world at bay for an extended period of time. I will wait to see the last disc before making a final decision on the program but still pretty interesting story line...................jmho -
It was on the news for the past year that the Antarctic Ice pack was getting bigger and it is the Northern Ice pack that is suppose to be melting so with that knowledge I just wonder why they went south instead of north. The story about following some guys expedition 100 years ago does not hold water with me.....................However it does hold a little Ice with me..............

Australian police find 328 guns, 4.2 tons of ammo at farm
bersaguy replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
I would like to have someone point out the guns worth $50,000.00 each? I already realize they had blown the glock prices out of site but I honestly don't see a $50,000.00 gun on any of the tables unless they are talking about the Joe Biden one in the lower right hand corner of the big table????? -
I have always been one that will try and help people that are truly in need. Been a long time now but shortly after coming from Service and close to Christmas 3 different families with about 11 or 12 kids of all ages suffered house fires and lost everything. These fires were all on same night and all within 10 miles of each other. I heard about it on the radio on my way to work at it just seemed like I could do something to help. As I drove onto work parking lot it hit me cause my boss was a U-Haul Rental Service along with operating an Exxon Station. As I went is and got a cup of coffee I asked the boss if I could rent the biggest truck on the lot and he told me yea and because we are a dealer we can get a dealer use rental. I pulled the truck up on the corner of the lot and called the radio station and all I told them is that the truck was located at the address of the station and if anyone wanted to help the families they could bring things and put them in the truck. The radio made sure the ages and sexes of all the kids was known. I had a 24 foot truck almost full by noon and not with any junk but all nice stuff including almost new appliances nice furniture and lots of nice clothes. The radio station was hammering it home all day. By about 2 o clock I had to move that truck and put up another. U-haul call the Shop and told my boss to just write the contracts on both trucks up as dealer use and would not cost us anything. There was several folks that called the station wanting to give appliances but had no way to haul them so yet a 3rd truck was out now picking up all the stuff locally with to guys from U Haul doing the work. That night the radio station managed to locate all of the adults from the 3 families and all three trucks loaded with everything they would need to replace almost everything they lost except for the personal stuff lost. The Nolensville Community Center was opened up and that is where everything was put until the families could arrange to get a new house to move the stuff to. The Gates Rubber and tire manufacturer in Goodlettsville brought full wrapped Christmas Presents and it was a delivery truck full of gifts and each gift was marked with boy or girl and the age the gift would best suit. No , I didn't go to deliver the stuff. I let U Haul and a few of our station employees deliver the stuff and bring the trucks back to our location. i did what I set out to do and once the trucks were full my job was over and I went home. The only thing I required of the radio station was my name was to never be mentioned. I was just called a good person that cared. I don't figure it matters much now since it was Christmas 1975. In all honesty I thought I might be lucky to get anything in one truck. I realized that day what it really meant to be an American and just how much being an American means. Many times I find it hard to believe I still live in that same America................jmho

I send a check every month to the Sumner County Humane Society or just go buy several big bags of dog food and deliver it their door. I try to buy puppy food, adult dog food and adult cat food each month. I don't think the employees eat the food so I feel it goes to the animals. They may take some home for personal animals but if they are going to steal they will steal..........jmho

I don't think anyone that works in a charity funded program should earn 300K a year. I don't care if they are married to it. Now I am leaning more towards Fisher House but not committed to any yet. Still waiting to see what more folks think but thanks for the stats sheets. Helps a lot. I already give to St Judes each month and have since January 2013 with my last cola raise.

A buddy of mine passed this phone on to me when he got his new one. I do know that it is Verizon DROID X2 and it has a charger and it is only 6 months old and apparently works great. My buddy is a tech nut and always has to have the newest stuff soon as it comes out so he sometimes will get a new phone every couple months. Anyway, he passed this phone on to me and told me I could take it to the company I use and they can flash it and I could then use it with my phone company. I guess that is probably true cause he has never lied to me about anything else. Thing is I don't like or want anything other than my simple flip phone that I have and use. Now even though the phone package I have allows me to use all the bells and whistles all I use my phone for is a text ever so often(seldom) and then voice mail, Call waiting, voice mail and making and getting phone calls. Now with that said, I really have no use for this fancy phone and would like to sell it but have no clue what they even are worth. Can someone here please enlighten me on what a phone like this is worth? Not really trying to advertise it for sale but more just trying to find out what it is worth and is it worth even selling? any input would be appreciated. Believe it or not they had a very nice news story on CBS news at 5:30 and they were very forth coming with the real reason for the trip and admitted it was to seek information on the Global Warming and Ice melting. I guess by now they have plenty of information to research and if they can't move because of that MELTING ICE they should have plenty of time to talk about it cause they are not going anywhere anytime soon. I think I read somewhere that the U.S. Military has agreed to send some of our Naval Ice Breakers down to rescue them as our Ice Breakers are better equip to do the job than the private ones are that tried. I say leave them there and if need be fly in supplies and drop them near the stuck boat and that is all the help I would send.................jmho

Ok , looking for input into which charities folks here might donate to. Every year when I get a cola raise on my Social Security I try and find a charity to donate it to. The issue is I don't trust 99% of them. I have done a ton of research on them and about 90% of them don't do right with the funds that are donated. Most of them only end up giving 5 to 8% of the money donated to the actual people and the rest of it goes to administrative people. In other words most of them are crooks per say. I use to give to Red Cross till all of that stuff that took place on 9/11 donations when millions of dollars were unaccounted and disappeared about the same time the director quit her job and I guess she retired comfortably. Anyway, Last year in January I made the decision that I would send my raise to St Judes Childrens Hospital because I know where that money goes. It goes to the kids and the families of the kids and some to research. I want some suggestions on who some of ya'll donate to and trust. I have been giving a lot of consideration to the Wound Warriors Organization as I believe the money may be used mostly to help the soldiers and not much to administration. Have any of ya'll done any research on them to see how up and up they are? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I remember hearing about it on several news stations. There were quite few children killed when the Russian troops stormed the school. Some of them were thought to have been killed by somewhat friendly fire as the dirt bag cowards used the children as human shields thinking the troops would not shoot. Like you said , Here we would still have been negotiating, In Russia they take care of business. Now with that said, I don't agree with that type of assault just like I never approved of Waco and Ruby Ridge. When and where innocent children are involved there needs to be a much different approach..............jmho

If anyone remembers to swift action Putin took when they captured that school some years back there were some children lost in it but all the bad guys where killed. I'm sure it is because he is helping the Syrian leader and it is that guys enemies that are doing it. You can bet Putin has a shoot to kill order out now for anyone that even looks like they might be up to something out of the ordinary.................jmho

I don't really think it would really be a new show. It will be the same old show we have been watching since the elections in 2008. O has been ducking his responsibilities since he took office. Since he got re-elected we are now watching re-runs...............jmho

I can't afford to go unless I can catch a matinee and normally I won't go alone so I just wait till they come out on netflix and get them then. World War Z was almost just like same theme as the movie "I am Legend" with Will Smith. Both hero's looking for the cure to zombies. If you pay very much attention Hollywood has lost all of it's writing talents for creating new stuff and with the newer technology they are just taking most of the better old movies and redoing them with the new technology. I kinda noticed that back when they redid Star Wars and added a new beginning to the original version. Just like all these Hobbit movies. Before "Lord of the Ring' who knew what a Hobbit was? They show you all of the Lord of the Ring series and then start making movies to explain where Hobbits came from and how the power of the ring came to be. They do all of it backwards or start in the middle and work both ways............Oh well, if netflix gets them, I watch them, if not I don't.................jmho
