  1. I grew up in upper Illinois west of Chicago for the first 17 years of my life and no one time can I ever remember them closing the schools for a snow storm. The buses ran and picked up kids or kids walked to school if they lived close. I took my drivers test to get my license in 5 inches of new snow. I call the Drivers license Center to see if they were giving tests with the new snow the night before. The man said yes we are open and yes we are doing drivers tests. Then he followed that up with if you live up here and you cannot drive in snow you don't deserve a license. I used my dads 1960 Ford Stick shift 6 cylinder and went and got my license that day and passed with flying colors. Dad always put steel studded snow tires on his car for winter. Now that was back in 1962. Since then the technology has improved tremendously as far as snow removal and until this year Winters have been warmer. Now Mother Nature decides to show all these so called Global Warming Green House Gas Know It All's that she is still the boss and everyone in the northern portions of the U.S. that should be prepared for what is happening now, Well, they have been listening to the Know It All's  to much and now are caught with their pants down and have their panties in a wad about what people should do to prepare for it. I read this morning that 9 people have already died from the storm. I am sorry for the loss of life because of it but I believe like the boy scouts and even though I live in Tennessee I stay prepared for Ice and snow. I have back up heat systems and back up cooking arrangements and back up lighting in 2 different power sources and plenty of food. I could probably hold out at least a month before I would begin to worry. Except for a National Catastrophe causing a power loss I'm fine......................jmho
  2. It will be enough when the Second Shot Heard Around the World takes place................jmho
  3. Gotta love Global Warming.  First we hear on news that an Ice breaker ship gets trapped in all the Global Warming and now  we hear about football games in the North country may be as hot as -25 degrees due to it. I guess those scientists on that ship have finally learned all they need to know about Green House gases to be convinced Global Warming may exist someplace but not where they think it is. Maybe on Mars or even maybe on the moon but Mother Nature here on Earth is giving some lessons on who knows more about the subject. It is suppose to be 4 degrees here at night and not get above freezing except one day in next 7. Hope everyone is able to stay warm during this bad weather.................jmho
  4. I seldom watch DD but did enjoy these first series Duck Commander when they were filmed actually hunting and giving hunting advice. I am quite sure that back when they were not stars they were not hunting with Beneli Shotguns but probably maybe Mossberg's of other reasonably priced guns. As far as their gun builders, who is to say that Beneli was not offered a deal and turned it down because they didn't want to lower their name grade by lowering their gun class so the average Joe could afford one. Mossberg would be the likely builder to make a more affordable gun for the average duck and goose hunters. Now with that said, I don't agree with everything that is being done from either side when it comes to the marketing programs. I have a feeling there might even be a lot of pirated products out their with their faces on them that they have not even been aware of. Like someone mentioned about all the stuff at Walmart wearing their faces. I'm guessing a lot of that has been done in China by pirate companies. People getting on the free ride so to say while their popularity rises. Things like this have happened many times before and will happen again............................jmho

  6. Hope they had video cameras and post it on local news today. I have driven passed that Indoor range a dozen times but have never shot there..........Hope they catch the SOB's
  7. I put both my boys through the Hunter Safety courses also and my youngest son put both of his boys through it before letting them hunt. It is a great course for the beginning shooter and like vontar mentioned above. Does not matter if he plans on hunting or not. Good course for sure.............jmho
  8. I don't think it would make any difference if a million birds (Pheasants and Quail) were released it would just be more food for the Coyote's and Foxes. I gave up hunting Rabbits and Quail many years ago because I had some great Lemon Drop Beagles and we could hunt several different large farms and my dogs might strike once or twice all day once in a while. I can remember hunting them 40 years ago and have a limit of rabbits and birds before lunch. Until they get the Coyote population under control small game hunting is going to be tough............jmho
  9. yea but being a  pro gunner guy anyone that is pro gun can see the real point of those few sentences. Had it not been for those couple of sentences in it I would not have posted it.........jmho
  10. That is the ultimate cool. The little criitter knows how to keep up with the food bag for sure. It's videos like this that ended my deer hunting back many years ago. That and my son.......................
  11. i loved the way she did it. She pulled one of Obama's tricks and did it while the President and most of the Congress are on Holiday vacation. That is normally what Obama does so she is giving him a taste of his own medicine...........Gotta love it................  :usa:
  12.   I found it very interesting also jacob. All this time they have been preaching gun control and now all of a sudden they are realizing that citizens that are on the scene when i begins can end it much faster with much less lives lost. Note how careful they were to not mention armed citizens but the story pretty much speaks for itself what they are talking about..............jmho
  13. Yep, That be a Ring Neck Rooster Pheasant for sure. Grew up hunting them in Illinois. Great bird to eat for sure. I am guessing that one may have gotten out of a pen somewhere because they are not native to Tennessee.
  14. Pay close attention to the last few paragraphs. I think someone has finally began to figure out a few things. Also there is a link about Obama's actions doing next to nothing to help.     http://news.yahoo.com/spike-in-mass-shootings-creates-demand-for-different-police-approach-132625638.html
  15. Have you learned where they come from yet??????.......................    Sorry buddy, had to say that.............. :woohoo:
  16. Pay back for all the lead toys they sent for our children to play with and Antifreeze tainted dog foods they send into the United states to poison our pets..............jmho
  17. Ok , I can understand hilly twisting roads being an issue but anywhere you choose to move in Tennessee tell your wife to get very use to seeing orange barrels on any road she drives on because Tennessee is known as The State of Road Construction and $500.00 speeding tickets because of those orange barrels...............jmho
  18. I have decided I will be going with Fisher House for my monthly donation but on those months I have a little left over I will write St Jude's a check and send it......................jmho
  19. I don't have a clue why she did it but I am thrilled that she did. It may not hold but at least someone in the Supreme Court has finally spoke up against  it and that is the important issue. I think Roberts is an idiot for ever allowing the law to pass and then call it a tax in the first place knowing the majority of people where against it. I wonder what Obama promised him?........................jmho
  20. Well, I want to take time out to thank everyone for their input. It has not only been informative but appreciated to see just how charitable minded most folks here are. Now I will share my reason for asking for help on this. Most folks here I think know I lost my oldest son to an automobile accident back in 1990. The accident actually took place in May of 1986. He received a closed head brain Stem injury and was listed as terminal from the night of the accident while in a coma. I had an insurance policy through my employer which back then was called the Rolls Royce policy of BC/BS. It paid up to 3 million dollars or 2 years, which ever came first. 5 months into the ordeal BC/BS notified the hospital telling them that at the end of that month they would no longer be covering his expenses. They decided it would be less costly to fight me in court than pay his bills. A lawyer friend of mine handled that and he made BC/BS begin back tracking with in 5 days and BC/BS decided it would be best to pay his bills and they did. In fact they over paid by almost $80,000.00 in two years to keep my lawyer happy. Strange how hospitals and doctors can milk every dime out of a policy within a time limited period. Anyway at the end of two years he was out of the coma but was a quad, could not speak and was fed through a tube. We had to bring him home and Medicaid equip his room with everything that was needed to sustain his care and sent a nurse out 3 days a week to update any care he may need. I can say one thing right now before I forget. We had and I still have some wonderful friends. During the last 7 months of his life his care became enormous and almost over whelming. In order to prevent bed sores on his body he was rolled from side to side. My wife being a nurse which really helped out and I had to work to keep our home and bills paid buy thank god for our friends. I had about 15 different friends step in and they would show up at all hours of the day and night to help with his care and rolling him. During those last months my wife spent 8 hours a day on the phone calling every charity funded organization that advertised they are here to help. Funny none of them did. We needed to borrow not keep but borrow a bed for him that was designed to prevent bed sores for long term patients. We began with , United Way got a no, Easter Seals, got a no, Red Cross, got a no, Scottish Rights, got a no, Shriners, got a no. Each one gave her another one to try but for a solid week she tried and all she got was no's. I had a buddy that resigned from the Shriners shortly after finding out they told us no because he learned that the Shriner Hospital here in Nashville had 53 of the beds we needed stored in their basement that had never been used because they were never needed but they would not loan us one for the short time my son had left. That is when I learned just how many of these so called Charities really do their jobs and are really out there to help. Few to none. I could not count the times I gave 10 bucks to a Shriner clown selling apples at some store or 10 bucks for one of their newspapers. I can tell you when I quit buying apples and papers. I realize the Shriners Childrens Hospital and Burn Center does a good job at the Hospital but they will do it without my money.  My wife and I gave money out of every check for years to united Way. I can tell you when that stopped also. Now with all of that said and I am sorry for the long read but wanted folks to know why I asked about the different Charities that are out there that ya'll do give to that truly do help and the dead beats that don't. i know there are probably a lot of folks on here that have lost loved ones so for them you probably know what it is like to suffer a loss. My situation is not much different than most except I had to watch my son die for 4 years and knew I was totally helpless to do anything to prevent it. I don't think there is a more helpless feeling in the world and I am sure there is a few here that has gone through that also. I just read this and thought about deleting it but I am going to post it. I think I want people to know more about me and why I make some of the decisions to ask some of the questions I do. I thank all of you for your posts about the charities as it will help.
  21. Gosh Mikie, Why are you recommending Lil" Chicago for the man to move to????..................

  23. I want to wish everyone on TGO a happy and prosperous NEW YEAR. My plans are same as have been last many years. Stay home, watch TV in Bedroom till I fall a sleep. I learned many years ago that the new year still comes if your awake of a sleep so I quit waiting up for it to happen............
  24. ok thanks for the info folks. I have no use for it so next time I go to my phone store, there is a phone store next to it that fixes and buys used phones. I will see if I can at least get a few bucks for gas for it there. It works great so might get a few bucks for it.......
  25. Well , saw the 1st two disc's and was impressed about parts and not about others and waiting for 3rd and last disc to arrive to finish watching it all. It does have it's moments and would make you think just how dangerous it could be if a Commander and Captain of a Nuclear Submarine with a full armament of 20 Nuclear missiles and full compliment of torpedoes could in fact hold the world at bay for an extended period of time. I will wait to see the last disc before making a final decision on the program but still pretty interesting story line...................jmho
