Personal Self Defense Encounters?
bersaguy replied to Dennis1209's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well before he became a 911 operator he was Cheatham County Deputy for 3 years so he has worked on both sides of it. He does have his moments of just getting up and saying I need a break and walking outside and the others cover for him while he is walking around clearing his head. He works 12 hours shift 8PM to 8 AM and he said the real crazies start about 11 PM and even without going outside he can tell you when it is a full moon...…..LOL. He said the calls that bother him the most is when a very young child calls and it's hard to keep them on the phone till help arrives. They keep wanting to hang up but he said he has developed techniques to keep them talking till he gets an all clear report from the responding help. -
Personal Self Defense Encounters?

Well my grandson has been on the job a little over four years and to date he has to his knowledge never had an officer quiz him about a call. The officer may know that the caller he was responding to a frequent flyer but they still went. The officers in the field know more about where they are going than the dispatcher does. My grandson has been pretty good at being able to pick out bogus calls by talking to the person while waiting for the police to arrive. He keeps them on the line talking to him. He also listeners for anything that may be going on in the background and if the caller suddenly hangs up he relays that to the police responding. He's pretty sharp on things. -

Thanks for the input. My eldest grandson is a 911 operator in one of the outlying counties and he has strict orders from his superiors that if any emergency call comes in requiring police he is to dispatch officers to react upon the call period. So far he has not had any officers fail to go and do their jobs. He can dispatch City, County and State Troopers when necessary depending on location of the call. -

Their plan is coming together. Their plan is coming together until the owners of firearms have had a enough and decide it might be time to come out of the closet and let the anti-gunners see what they are really up against and see if they still have to stomach to push the envelope!!!.....JMHO -
Personal Self Defense Encounters?

I can agree with you on a few points but I have 1 logic I live by and that is "Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6" for not being prepared and I will believe that as long as I am alive!!! That is why I always have something when I am out in public. -
I had concerns about penetration when I was looking for SD ammo so I decided to do some testing. Nothing High Tech but just kind of sampling. I made a dummy body from styro - foam, dressed in what I would consider some really heavy clothing including beginning with thermo undershirt and a sweat shirt,Flannel Shirt and a goose down extra heavy winter coat I bought back many years ago when we still had real winters up north and finally topped it off with an insulated rain coat. I placed the dummy up against a piece of 3/4 inch plywood. I back up about 25 feet and sent 15 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense rounds into the dummy from my Bersa model 85. All but 2 rounds passed through all of the clothing and foam with 4 passing through the plywood and the rest where stopped by the plywood. I know it was not a scientific test but it told me what I wanted to know. I know ball FMJ ammo will penetrate more and that is my concern about rounds passing through a perp and striking innocent bystanders. Especially even center mass if the Perp is not 250 + pounds. It concerns me that 4 of the CD Hornady's passed through the plywood.

I think I have tried most every SD round out there for 380 Caliber and I finally settled on Hornady 90 gr. FTX Critical Defense and that is what is in all my 380's and the back up mags with them.
-
I don't have a clue about reloading the rounds but I'm sure someone here will be able to answer your question...….

I have never done business with AU (Jim) but I have done several transactions with many other members of TGO and to date have never had a bad experience with any members here at all. Great bunch of folks for sure here!!

Its not a fun caliber to plink with. I can't imagine why???......……….. I have another friend that actually owns one of the original 44 auto-mags made right after the movie "Sudden Impact" came out and he said the same thing about plinking and seldom does it. He found out that the company was going out of business and he bought up a bunch of parts that were noted for breaking or malfunctioning. Back when he bought it he was a young man. Now he says it is nice to look at and his grandson will take him and the gun to a range and the grandson shoots a couple mags through it and then they go home and Grand-paw takes it apart and inspects it, cleans it and locks it back in the safe till the next trip. He has promised it to his Grandson when he passes away. That is why he has taught him how to disassemble it, inspect it clean it and assemble it back.

That is one of the reasons I don't shop at Harbor Freight. 99% of what they sell is made in China and most all Chinese Steel has small air pockets in it making it very weak. I bought a driveway alarm there so I would know if anyone drove in my driveway at night. It worked twice and never beeped again so next time I got near Harbor freight I took it back. They replaced it and the one I got, new in the box never worked at all. Took it back and the guy said we don't sell those anymore and I said great cause I want my money back and not another piece of Chinese Junk!!

Well I am finally convinced that the doctor Trump has running the Sars-Covid-19 Pandemic does not have a clue what so ever that he is doing??? Since this all started he has said it is not an aerosol transmitted disease beyond the 6 foot distancing. Now all of a sudden he said it is very likely possible an aerosol disease carried in the air. I am now satisfied that clown has no clue what day of the week it is. He also said today that he and Trump have not spoke in two months!!! Why has Trump not fired this clown and put someone that might know something in his place? No wonder we are in the shape we are in and have 133,000 people dead and getting worse...….

Thank you and I will let my buddy know when you find out!!!

I have been watching the numbers in my county and they started out with 3 and it stayed there a long time. I checked it today after not looking at it for quite a while and it has grown to 127 over the 4 months since they began posting numbers so they don't even post it on the map they put up.

MIdway Starts selling fishing gear - mixed feelings

I would not read a lot into it. If they were going to make this kind of move they should have done it 20 years ago but better late than never I guess. They are probably just trying to attract more sportsmen to their business....JMHO -
I think that if they are going to keep posting big numbers they need to first get the right numbers!!! Many times the numbers they show have numbers added from tests that are sometimes 12 days old. When they do that of course the numbers will be much higher. I don't think they have ever really had accurate numbers since the first month. I think what they need to focus their efforts on is ways to improve the testing turn around time. To do that just quite testing for 3-5 days and get all the results in and start at zero and make any improvements they can on testing results and begin giving accurate numbers or at least more accurate than what they are throwing out there now. I don't live in Davidson county but I also don't think their Mayor has any clue on what he is doing but that is just my opinion. As far as Governor Lee, I think he is trying to avoid as much responsibility as possible and that is why he has placed the Mayor of the 85 counties that don't have their own Health departments on the responsibility of masks or no masks. He is avoiding being the Good guy/bad guy issue! Also if you look at the now HOT SPOTS they are all in the southern tier of the country except California which all have the greatest number of Hispanic populations which I am sure are not getting tested for fear of deportation but they are out mixing with people in public everyday. Maybe that would be a place to start looking. Again, just my opinion!!

I have not been off this property I live on since this mess began. The only interaction I have had was with 2 TGO Members and my daughter and Son In Law and do to their employment types both get tested everyday before they can begin work. When they go shopping for my groceries they follow all the rules. N95 Masks in public and hand sanitizer bottles carried in their pockets to use frequently before bringing my groceries in my home plus we all wear masks. I have a specific place that they put my groceries and leave. I put up the frozen foods and refrigerated stuff up and then spray off the freezer and fridge with Lysol. After I have let the other stuff sit for quite a while I will spray the bags with Lysol and let them sit another 15 minutes or so and then finish putting up my groceries. Then I wash hands and put on hand sanitizer. It has worked so far so not changing anything. "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"
-
I do feel sorry for my son-in-laws employees as they must wear an N95 mask all day while at work and they are working out side for the most part. Their job is to spray a product that fire proofs the iron girders in commercial buildings under construction. Their boss, my SIL does give them spraying a lot of breaks so they can remove the masks and get something cold to drink. They also spay in shifts so no one is doing it to long before they get a break. Each time they go back in the spray booths they get a new mask also to assist in easier breathing.

I agree Fox!! It's been a long long time since anything was close to what anyone could call normal!!! I don't know about most folks but if people have really been paying attention to what has been allowed to go on in cities with Democratic mayors and states with Democratic Governors all ordering their law enforcements departments to stand down when the protests and riots arrive in their towns and states and not take any actions. Well over the 4th weekend a little 8 years old black girl was targeted and shot and killed along with several other people. The Governor called up the National Guard to regain law and order in Atlanta and Georgia but it was a lot to late as the damage was done. The Black female mayor said that she does not know why they would killed an 8 year old baby girl and that was worse then anything the police would have done yet she was the one that told the police to stand down. In each city where damage and death took place in riots there was a Democrat Mayor that told their police departments to stand down. The Mayor in DC actually proved to everyone that she is a racist by painting BLM on the street leading to the White House and renaming it Black Lives Matter Plaza. I sincerely hope that on election days all Americans remember all of these actions and vote accordingly to remove them and move right up the ladder and vote a bunch of House members out while they are at it!!! They have proven what they believe and now it's time for all true Americans to show what they believe and we take our country back!!!

Thank you for the update. I hope if they ever get my Fiber-Optics installed I can begin watching some of the programs I really enjoy again!!! The package I have picked out to have installed has all of my favorite channels included.
-
Ok now that we got hipower fixed up I have a question for folks that still have cable or satellite. Does any one know if the programs "Alaska, the last Frontier" is still on. I'm not sure if it was on History or Discovery but think Discovery. That and Deadliest Catch was 2 of my favorite programs!!!!
-
Why don't ya give hipower a link or 2 and make his day (Even though your don't look at those kind of pictures)……….
