I grew up in the North were the Unions thrived back in the 50's and 60's. The UAW, The USS Worker unions, The Teamsters, The Dock Workers and so on and so forth. When the EPA was created and they set upon their first target the Auto Industry why didn't the unions step up and say Whoa, Hold on just a second and lets rethink your plans here. Instead they sat back and did nothing except continue to collect their Union Dues. When the EPA turned their attention to the Steel mills after destroying the auto maker companies that began putting demands on the Steel Mills that they knew would be impossible goals and the almighty Iron and Steel Workers unions stood stood idly by and never say whoa wait just a minute and lest look at these so called new rules and regulations and see if we can't work something out. Nope they sat there on their hands with their mouths shut and did exactly nothing to help all those Iron and Steel workers save their jobs. The Teamsters Union is another joke that did nothing to help their members when things began to go down the tubes. But they still expected to collect their union dues just like the UAW did and the Steel Workers unions did right up to the bitter end when the jobs were going to China. I guess people have given up looking for Jimmy Hoffa Sr. by now but Jr. is walking right in his foot steps. There was videos back last year during that Teachers Strike in Wisconsin when they recalled the newly elected Governor for a new vote when he had to make some tough decisions about the over whelming money the state was paying to their teachers and it was because of the Teachers union demands and he refused to meet the demands and raise taxes and in the videos it showed thugs beating people and knocking people down and kicking them because they were against the union demands. The union got their recall vote and the Governor elect got re-elected by even a larger margin than he did in the first election. The Union didn't get the demands and the teachers went back to work with a cut in benefits the union was demanding. Someone mentioned in an earlier post that people have smartened up to Unions. Yes they have and the days of the Strong Arm Threatening Union organizers are pretty much over. I think a great many people saw that last year in Wisconsin....................jmho

Well as scripted as they may be I still enjoy Deadliest Catch and Gold Miners and Alaska , the last Frontier and Yukon Men and a few others. I know they are scripted but they are still a lot better than watching to 87th rerun of Iron Man or 105th re run of Transformers and most other movies they are showing now over and over and over again..............jmho

If I find an venomous snake in my yard it will be visiting its ancestors in a short period of time and it will be my word against the dead snake as whether my life, life of family or pets was threatened or not and I don't think the snake will be talking......................jmho

I think the Governor and other elected officials were all acting in behalf of the employees and the VW Corporation as a whole since our state did make concessions on behalf of the state and the people of the great state of Tennessee to bring the company here and I just don't really think they should just stand back and allow some thugs and bullies from up north come down here and try and intimidate people into joining a union and taking money away from the employees and also demanding that VW make changes in their policies. That is what they did in Detroit and they did it so much that they bankrupt the Automakers up there. We don't need that kind of trash in Tennessee causing trouble........................jmho

Sure glad I am not a VW employee down there right now cause if a bunch of thugs showed up on my front lawn with megaphones screaming at me it would get really ugly really quick and I would settle it redneck style with a Biden 12 gauge and rock salt. I have seen how those thugs work when I was young and growing up and they think they are above the law. If they are on my front lawn I am the law. I have a feeling either way these guys are going home without a union in VW. They need to learn that folks in the south don't push as easy as folks in the North do. You pick a fight with one person down here and you have pretty much picked a fight with the entire town. People up north close their windows and try to ignore these clowns and their high pressure tactics. People down here join forces and stand up with their neighbors..................jmho

Thanks for tat information MM, cause I think his son does have plans to restore a little along as he can afford the parts for it. Casey is not really into the firearms scene much. Like his Dad, he also does have CCW and spend a fair amount of time at the range keeping in tune with his carry weapon but wanted to take on the challenge of restoring that old rifle. Casey is pretty talented so I think he will do a good job with it. again thanks for the info. -
Well if he is a good guy then I hope he is not shot but he does need a little training on not putting the gun barrels nose down in the dirt..............jmho

Yep. the only one that is not wearing any is what looks like and older SKS or AK. Can't really tell what it is but I'm sure a lot of folks here probably can...........jmho

.22 shortage, according to Win. rep

It's not what you see but what you don't see that counts. For every box you do see on a shelf there are 10 boxes hidden in the back for the scalpers that are paying off the people working in the sporting goods departments in the big box stores that you don't see. The stores are getting the ammo. It's just not getting onto the retail shelves for the general public to purchase...................jmho -

Well the burden of what to do with it is now off my shoulders. I gave it back to him after I learned that his youngest son Casey had been hoping someday his father would pass the rifle down to him. Butch called me this morning and asked if he could have it back because he found out that Casey wanted it but never would ask him straight out for it. I was more than glad to give it back to him so he could pass it down to Casey. I think he is going to take it over to Casey's home soon as he left here. Problem solved and no ones feelings hurt I hope. Thank all of you for your help in identifying the gun and it's origin. Now if I run into an opportunity to get another one I will at least have an idea what I would be getting......  -

I don't doubt that a lot of it is panic buying but I still put most of the blame on the Walmart Campers and other places that cater to these kind of people just as much. And I don't just blame the scalpers as much as I blame to stores that allow it to take place. You will never convince me that the management does no know what is going on. They should have stepped in a long time ago and put and end to it. It is not just Walmart but all of the stores like Academy, Dicks, and all the big box stores doing it which in turn is putting major pressure on the small business owners that own Gun Stores. Some folks said it is just good competition. I say it is pure good old greed. They have to know that there are employees taking payoffs to favor a small group of the same people every time a load comes in and know exactly which days to be there. The guy at NRange told me that he has a standing order for 22lr from his distributors and he never knows till he opens the boxes whether he will have 22 lr's in the box or not that day. When he does they put them out with a limit on how many per person. He also said he will not say yes or no to someone calling asking if they have any. He just tells them they need to come in and see. I don't know how true that is because I have never called but I don't think he had a reason to lie about it............jmho -

The wood on it is in very rough shape as far as scratches go and a few deep chips in the wood also. It does not have the cleaning rod that is suppose to be with it but has the slot where it is suppose to go. The action seem very tight and sound for such an old gun. I do really appreciate my buddy thinking enough of me to give it to me and I have heard many people speak about Mosin's being good guns. It is just something I don't think I would shoot. Has a metal butt plate and my old shoulders don't do well with sudden jolts any more. I hurt my shoulder last summer setting the hook on a large bass and could fish for a week. I did call my buddy and tell him what kind of gun it is because he didn't know either and he is not one that messes to much with them but he did want to see if I could find out what it is.. He has his CCW permit and does carry and does shoot some at the range but not a real gun buff. He said he has heard of them but that is about all. -
I had a buddy that felt great and just went to his doctor for his semi annual checkup and chest xray and the such. Was there about an hour and before he got out of there the doctor had tests ordered for him at local hospital and he said he saw something on the Xray that didn't look good and this and that and he scheduled a battery of tests and had him scared to death before he got out of the office. He was so worry that by the time he got home he was a nervous wreck. For about 6 days until the tests he had all these bad things running through his head and he called me a few times and I tried to calm him down. He kept saying " I don't understand it, I felt great when I went in and now I feel terrible hurt all over and just feel bad". He went for that battery of tests and they found exactly Zero wrong with him physically but as for his mental state his entire personality changed and he is just not quite the same as he once was. I am not the only one that knows him has seen the diference. Hope that clarifies what I was trying to say.

Gosh!!!! I really didn't want to re-fight the Civil War when I made to post. I just thought it was kind of unique that after all these years of listening to how great things were in the north and how backwards things where in the South according to the Northerners there sure are a bunch of them wanting to get below the ole Mason / Dixon line really bad these days. I also grew up my 1st 17 years in Illinois Dave and yep, I hunted and fished and did all the same things I and most folks do down here. I will even say this. I have a friend that still lives up there and we hunted and fished all the time while growing up and we took loaded guns into the small town we lived in. During hunting season for Rabbits and Squirrels and other small game we could shoot with 22's we even pack single action six shooters in western style fast draw holsters tied down on our legs like gun fighters and went to town with them loaded. I had a Colt with bone grips and Dave had Ruger with wood grips. Not one person said a thing or thought anything about it. Everyone in town knew we hunted and many folks got free wild game from us cleaned and ready to cook. In case anyone is interested back when Dave and I were kids we did a lot of hunting and the pistols were for shooting rabbits that were setting tight and we could shoot them without filling them with lead BB's Even the police chief would get rabbits from us to make his Hausenpheffer(spelling) rabbit dinners with. He knew the pistols were loaded and never said a word. So yea I grew up with guns all my life, Even up there. I think I mentioned that i am a half breed. Half Yankee and half Hillbillie and was proud of it but it was never an issue. We came down ever summer for Vacation and stayed with my Grandpa on his big ranch and my father always said he wanted to retire down here near my mothers people and in 1967 we moved South and lived in a beautiful Log home that was built in 1850 that was located on the ranch. The only thing I missed and to this day still miss is my buddy Dave from up there. I speak with Dave often and he said I would not recognize our hometown now. It is a suburb of Chicago. He finally moved to Streator Illinois near the rest of his family when he retired. Point is I didn't plan on starting a major North South Feud but thought it was kind of funny that the North had all this great stuff going in their favor with manufacturing and had the Auto Workers Union and all the Iron and Steel Workers unions and everything else they could stick a union in and control and they bankrupted all of them and now they are driving the Firearms manufacturing out with their stupid laws and now all the people in the North want to come down here. I don't mind if they move down here but don't expect me to change my way of life to suit them cause that ain't happening. I still throw my hand up and wave when I am out in the country and pass an on coming truck or car and normally they wave back. I also honk at friends on their front porches in the summer time down home near our old ranch. Country is still country down there. If I cross a line i should not have cross i am sorry...............but it's jmho

Thanks for the congrads and I hope you enjoy shooting yours but I have no intentions of pulling the trigger on this relic or purchasing any ammo for it either. I actually only took it to keep from hurting my buddy's feeling because he really thought he was giving me something special. He was really impressed that it had it's own bayonet!!! -

My buddy said as best he can remember he put it in the closet about 15 years ago and forgot it was even there till he got to cleaning out what he calls his junk room and closet and he knew I was into guns so he called me up and told me to stop by and when I did he gave it to me. If there are any import marks on it I would not know where to look or what to look for. This thing was made before I was born as best I can figure. -

I just went on the web site link here and it showed two of the Russian models and the measurements are correct but it does not have any of the same markings such as the Star or anything like that on it. It appears to have some type or oriental lettering on it instead along with several numbers. It did or does have that later model ear on the bayonet it showed in the picture so I guess I am still not sure what it is? -
Well I have been doing some reading and it looks like the South is winning the war this time. So far the Yankee unions are not allowed in the any Auto plants south of Mason / Dixon line and ahve to get in all of them and to date the Yankees have lost at least 5 Firearms companies to South or southwestern States. Don't look to good for the Yankees right now huh? They also didn't get into the Boeing Plant when they tried to force their way into South Carolina Boeing Plant .......................jmho
