Well after reading all the fine posts here I have zero desire to even think about going to another show. I don't think I read one positive post in the thread about the gun shows being held this day and time. Last one I went to was pretty much like most folks said and that was in December 2009 and they had a big picture of the President that was elected in November 2008 and under the picture it said Gun Salesman of the Year. I don't know but even what I know about him 6.5 years later I thought the picture was in poor taste.I will leave it at that on that part. The show did have a few fairly reasonable items and I did purchase some ammo and so did my buddy. I also purchased a holster I had been looking for to fit my Llama. Last show I have been to. Was going to go to one in Hendersonville a few months back and it got cancelled. I knew it was cancelled and i told my buddy it was not gonna happen but he insisted on wasting his gas to go over and see an empty parking lot. Was a nice day for a ride anyway. I quit going to fishing expos when I could buy cheaper at retail stores and same reason I quit going to Gun shows...............jmho

If you're considering buying a Mini from Mini of Knoxville...

I commend your company sir. Yea,it is an incentive to work faster and and my son is the same way. If one of his techs has a comeback do to poor labor or mistake this fix it on their time with no pay. If it comes back because of a defective part from Oreilly's Auto parts the O'Reilly's pays the tech's labor and replaces the part under waranty. There are not many parts stores that will pay labor for defective parts but that was a deal made by me back long before O'Reilly's was O'Reilly's and it was Mid State Automotive and because of the volume of parts my shop purchased from them O'Reilly's held good on the agreement. Another thing about my son is he is a hands on owner meaning he works on cars every day that they have enough business to keep the techs busy and will take the headache jobs and gives his techs the easier ones. That is why both of his techs have been with him since year after I left in 1991 and made him manage it. He hired both of them right after Graduation from Nashville Auto diesel College as both of them worked for him part time while attending the school. Like I said. I commend your company for doing what is right by your mechanic/techs. -
some times it just takes a certain little push from an outsider to create that little spark of curiosity and once it happens they take to it like a duck to water and then you realize you created a monster......... My second wife hated football because her first husband watched it but would never explain the game to her. When I was watching a game one day she came and sat down beside me and every time she would ask a question I would answer it. Here first question was what is a 1st down and I told her and the more she learned the more she wanted to know. Soon my house interior was turning orange here and orange there and I had a full blown UT NUT. I lost her in 1997 but I did fill one of her biggest dreams not knowing I was going to lose her but I got a buddy to loan me his season tickets he bought every year and even got to borrow his Chalet in Gatlinburg for the weekend. She was excited that we were going to the mountains. I sprung the game on her after we got there. It was the same year Needem Stadium did their seat addition and when every began stomping their feet the whole place shook and you thought it was an earthquake. Sorry for going on so long but glad you got your wife included in your interests and hope she continues to enjoy it......

Are you a new car dealer? If so and you still pay your mechanic/technicians flat rate you are a dinosaur and I commend you for it. My son has two employees besides him and my grandson and he pays 50/50 labor to his two tech's and his shop rate is $62.00 per hour so his two techs earn $31.00 hr. book time for every job they do and because the business has been in operation 3 generations it stays busy. If they can beat the book time then they can make more money. Thing is beating the book time on cars made after 2000 is hard. My son does good by his employees by making sure the shop has the latest technology equipment available for them to work with and does not expect them to buy $3,500.00 scanner/programers but does require them to have their own good selection of hand tools to work with.. -

I think you had a right to be upset but after all, it was their fault. They could have shown you a little more respect but then that goes on a lot these days. In many cases it is just negligence which in your case that is what it was. I was an ASE certified Master mechanic for 35 years before retiring due to health reasons but I had told myself back in early 80's that when cars i worked on got smarter than me I would quit working on them. They actually reached that point in 1989 but I held out one more year because i was working in my own business and had a son and grandson working with me. I turned the business over to them in 1990. They are still working on these new cars and when I listen to my son talk about what it costs in new equipment just to be able to diagnosis the problems it sends chills down my spine. They do all types of repairs but specialize in Transmissions. I was not aware of the fact til he showed me a new scanner/programer he had recently purchased just because about 4 years ago the manufacturers put electronic control solenoids in the transmissions and if the had to be rebuilt after the rebuild was complete and tranny was back in the car he would have to hook up this scanner to the cars on board ALDL computer so it could reprogram those solenoids to the cars computer or it would not shift properly. It was either spend $3,500.00 and buy the scanner/programmer or have to send every car to what ever manufacturer Chevy, Ford, Chrysler etc etc and pay them $200.00 for 15 minutes work for dealer tech to hook up their scanner to do it. Last time I was at the shop a customer was picking up his VW beetle they had built the tranny in. I could not believe it when the guy handed them a cashiers check for almost 4 grand just for a tranny rebuild. The guy was very nice and thanks my son for doing it for such a great price. After the guy left I asked my son about it and he said we fixed his car for a $1,000.00 under what every one else wanted. Now with all that said I know you have reason to be upset and I would have been also had I not known what these mechanics go through to work on this junk the make these days. There is no way I would ever work in a dealership this day in time with all these companies offering 100,000 mile warranties and the mechanics pay scales have changed in most all dealerships and your not paid book hours any longer. Your paid an hourly wage at a set figure and there is no way to make more by beating the book times any more................jmho -

Alcohol Limit For Beer To Be Raised In Tennessee?
bersaguy replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
heck talk about lax in booze laws , in Illinois you can walk into a gas station/market and buy beer or a 1/5 of Jack Daniels along with smokes and gas. I was doing that back in 1990 when I would go visit a buddy of mine I grew up with. Don't know if it has changed any since i have not been back since my buddy passed away from Agent Orange Cancer around 2000. He fought it hard and it would go in and out of remission and finally when he got old he said he was done fighting and when it came back he didn't fight it. -
That is kinda funny because the guy also gave him about 25 or 30 rounds of 32 ammo with the gun and I told him the ammo may be worth more than the gun and he laughed.

I had a buddy stop by a little while ago and he had a gun he was wanting to sell. Right now I cannot afford to drop any money on another gun but I told him to get back with me over the weekend. This was a boat anchor and I could not believe a 32 Caliber could weigh as much as this gun did. After he left I went and done some research on it because I didn't recognize the brand. It is a Lorcin semi auto 32 caliber made in California and they had everything except a sterling reputation. They had more lawsuits against them than McDonalds When he calls me back on the weekend I'm gonna break his heart. He loaned a guy 125.00 and the guy didn't have the money to pay him back and gave him this fine piece of American Technology instead.........I have a feeling he will own this gun for a long time unless he is lucky enough find someone that wants to just buy it without checking it out..........Anyone else heard of this company before?

Gosh many interesting theories of what he actually did with the Nagant and I have no clue as to what those guns are capable of so won't say yea or nay as to what I believe cold be achieved with one. I do know there has been a few remarkable shots made by the modern day snipers shooting in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan. A few up to a mile with the Barret Rifles. They are documented shots made by some very good shooters with very good firearms. What was the main reason for those shots was it was Sniper against Sniper. I know what the Canadian Soldier was shooting which was the Barrett. I have no clue what his enemy was shooting but what ever it was it seemed to be a good gun with long range abilities and in the end it came down to who would be the one to make the mistake. Turned out to be the Taliban Sniper that died from his mistake. Here is a video of a sniper in action in Afghanistan. I have no clue how long these shots are but they are head shots because you see head parts and head turbans flying through the air after the shots. Click on picture and it will take you to my photo gallery to view it.

It is funny how things like one's taste in music can change over time.
bersaguy replied to mav's topic in General Chat
Back when my wife was alive there was only two kinds of music. Mine and hers. Mine consisted of oldies but goodies Rock-n-Roll and hers was anything Country related. We both had our places that we could listen to what we liked which if in my truck it was Rock n Roll and in her car it was Country so depending on what we drove would depend on which music we listened to.............  -
Well welcome to the site first off. If your hands are registered I bet it's kinda hard for you to walk in anyplace posted and be legal if the term weapon is on the sign. To answer your question on hand to hand with gun out. Why would you need of even thnk about that when you have a gun in your hand and the situation is in control or your going to have to shoot the perp or you can holster your gun and kick his butt if he does not surprise you at 10 feet away and pull his gun and just shoot you knowing now you have one and end up taking your gun and wallet when he exits? A lot of scenarios to that question but myself. I would stick with my gun or guns...............jmho

I watched that guy walk the canyon of that tight rope here sometime back. Little more than a rope but more like 1.5 inch cable but was still pretty gutsy for him to do it. Plus not much else worth watching to the Flat screen. Use to say Tube but tv's don't have tubes anymore.........  -
Who else is getting numerous phone calls about health care?
bersaguy replied to daddyo's topic in General Chat
This reminds me of my Mother. Lost her several years back but I thought this was funny. My Mother could speak about three foreign languages quit well and one of them was Japanese. She learned it as a young girl when she went to work as a dishwasher in a Japanese Restaurant. The main words she picked up all was all the curse words the cooks would spout out when they got mad. I was over at her house one evening when a telemarketer called and she answered the phone and said a few quaint words in Japanese and as she hung the phone up she said, Huh, don't guess they wanted to talk. She had caller ID and looked at it, it said unknown on it before she answered it. My brother said she does that all the time and I said well, it seems to work.............  -
My buddy has a Kel-tec 32 caliber he pocket carries and he loves it. I was looking for a 32 when I ran up on the LCP.................liking it more each time I get ready to make a quick run to the store. Got shorts on so in the pocket it goes and I am feeling more safe having it the more I tote it.

bersaguy replied to daddyo's topic in General Chat
back 18 years ago when I moved here I was trying to make a decision on whether to get a house phone or a cell phone. I was only going to get one or the other. Well I was on my way to sore to get some groceries and truck broke down. I had to walk about 3 miles to a pay phone to call a friend. That was the deciding factor. I can make calls from a cell phone from home but can't call for help when broke down on the side of the road and get help with home phone. So I have one phone and seldom if ever get a spam call. Wrong number about 1 time every couple months. Will never have another home phone...............jmho -
I do pretty much the same thing with ground beef but I went one step further. I have a hand grinder that belonged to my grandmother and I grind my own. I will go to the "Used meat" close to outdated managers specials and purchase any roasts that are marked down and I come home and cut them in chunks and freeze them in vacuum seal. Then I thaw out what I need and grind my own burger for use at that time. Saves on burger dishes like spaghetti, grill burgers, Chili and other type supper meals. You can buy you own meat grinders fairly cheap at TSC stores and they come with pork sausage tube slides and other attachments. Been thinking about getting a new one............jmho

I know some folks think they are saving money when they buy these cost cutter off brand items that are even lower in price than store brand items but I spent some time researching these items. Many of them are imported from third world countries and in many cases the weights are off as much as two ounces in the dry goods like Macaroni, Rice and boxes of Mac&Cheese stuff. There canned goods have about 2.5 more ounces of water than products like Green Beans and other canned veggies. About the only things I buy that is store brands are at Sam's and then it 's mostly paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. I have also noticed that things I use to purchase in grocery stores like Campbell's Soups cost you about the same the same as a few years back but the cans are smaller. I have seen that in many name brand items. Starkist Tuna in cans are smaller but cost as much as 3 years ago. Kraft mac & cheese Shells have smaller shells in them than they use to have. These are all things that manufacturers are trying to slip past consumers and I guess it's working cause I have not heard anyone complaining. I just began buying those things at Sam's in bulk because at bulk price even though your getting smaller portions they are not costing you as much as in retail grocery stores.................jmho

show off..............  I was not gonna let folks know I let other folks buy my baits but thanks for the bragging anyway. This is a gun site and have thought about becoming a Benefactor but didn't think it would be something folks would be interested in. If it was a fishing site then maybe.....................

Right now I have the gun loaded with PMC because i have not opened ammo safe for some time and that is what is in my Range bag so that is what I loaded it with. Might not load any Fiocchi in it now. Fiocchi is about the hottest 380 ammo I have ever found. I can tell a difference in it in both of my Bersa's and my Llama and any other 380 ammo.

  I just spit coffee all over my keyboard and computer. I didn't put 2 and 2 together for a minute and then realized what I read. A Chihuahua, one of the smallest dogs on earth playing with a Mastiff or (Small horse) largest dog on earth. It hit me all at once and this picture formed in my head and out came the coffee. I bet that was a lot of fun to watch...........
