  1. A couple years back before I taught my son in law learned how much fun Bass fishing is from a Skeeter Bass boat and my daughter said I ruined him she use to have a freezer full of trout all the time and he did most all his Trout fishing in the Caney Fork with great success. You might plan a trip down to the Caney and plan on making a day of it. I thing Tommy(SIL) might be able to give you some tips on that river. Let me know if you want what info I can get from him.
  2. Just the safety system on the Thunder was one of the things that pushed me over the edge plus I love the double action. I would love to get my hands on another Thunder in good shape just to have another Safe Queen. I'm getting ready to put a gun up for sale in the classifieds I cannot get into these miniature guns.
  3. I am not in a position to dispute what you are saying because since my best friend and Range partner of died 10+ years that use to be at the range religiously. He worked there as maintenance manager and we had free will to use the range and he was more the one that was always experimenting with anything new that came out and if he thought it might be something I might like to shoot he would bring it down to the range. He was the person that introduced me to the Bersa Thunder and I fell in love with the fix box of ammo down the tube. I would like to have another for the safe. I was totally happy and the more powder I sent down the tube the better I got. Like I said earlier. Most of the people that took the HCP range took the test with 22lr target guns. I took mine with a Thunder. I told you my grades back then. I had my son-in-law tease me the other day when We went out in the field behind the house to burn some powder and he asked me to shoot 3 of his guns. He has a Glock, Smith &Wesson and a Single action Colt. I didn't crash and burn like I thought I might but I manage to get on the flight deck........He told me he was surprised that I did fairly well with strange guns and I looked at him and said......"it's not the gun, "it's up to the shooter able to adjust. I burned 1 Mag from my Thunder and no it was not 91%. It was about 75% give or take. Not bad for not being in a range or even out shooting out back in the field in over 3 years.
  4. I have an S&W N&P Body Guard that I wish anyone else owned but me. It is just taking up room in the safe. A friend of mine needed some money and I took it as a loan and next time I heard from him he was living in Florida with his girlfriend 5 years ago. the Only good is it's a 380 and I have plenty of ammo for it. Oh yea it has a pocket holster and extra mag. Soon as my grandson comes by I will get a few pictures of it and then post it in the classified to sell. Don't have a clue what to ask for it as I know I paid to much for it.
  5. I have noticed while reading that a lot of folks talk about all the different pistols they own but I seldom see a Bersa Thunder or a Model 85 mentioned. Is it that it is the fact it is not a small pocket pistol or because it is a 380 caliber? They make the same hole as a 9mm and it is like I said earlier that if you get in a situation that might require self defense that the Bersa 380 might have you under gunned? I have never felt under gunned when I have a Bersa on me because I know I will put a round where it needs to be to stop the situation. Maybe instead of buying a dozen different guns that a person practices with the one they have it will be easier on the pocket book. Not trying to start a fuss but just trying to prove a point.
  6. I have only been to Memphis 2 times and both times were non stop times. I grew up in Chicago till I was 16 and my parents where given a rather large Ranch/Farm by my grand father because it became to much for him to run any longer. He gave them the ranch house for us to live in while he lived in the farm house. There was about 850 acres of pasture land for cattle, about 10 acres for a hog lot 40 acres for horses and 1500 acres of timber. I graduated high school and got notice that I would be receiving draft notice so rather than wait I joined the Navy and after boot applied for Special Forces and got accepted. I had heard a lot of people talk about Memphis and quite a few said it was a small Chicago. That was kept me from going to Memphis. I trained with four different long guns for two years in between assignments.
  7. My main reason for posting about the 380's is, I realize that many folks say that I should have got a 9 mm. Maybe but I got what I was comfortable with that I could depend on being able to hit the target in the spot I was aiming and putting the bullet where I want it to go. With this said when I went to the range to qualify for my HCP I had the gun I had done a lot of practicing with, felt comfortable with and when I qualified with 91% the instructor looked at my target, turned and looked at me and said I'm impressed !!!! I knew I had a high score on the written so I felt I had got my permit. I guess it was my trip to the range 3 to 4 times a week was worth the trips. One thing I kept playing in my head was the Lawyers Bullet. My range buddy told me on my way to qualify in the range all he said was not 100% I punched my first hole approximately 1.5 inch to the right ear and my second approximately 1.5 inch to the left ear and the rest of them in almost a heart shape center mass and the last one between the eyes. BT was my range buddy for about 8 months, 3 days a week and when he was watching my improvements is when he told me about the Lawyers bullet and told me not to shoot 100% on the test day. I asked him what the lawyers bullet was and he said if I ever had to shoot someone and kill them the lawyer will be able to convince the jury that I was an expert and I could have shot to wound and not kill. By not shooting 100% the Lawyer could not call me an expert. That is what the ear bullets where for. Lawyers bullets. There was 15 people in our class and 7 of the shooters could not even hit the target anywhere. I'm glad I have my HCP because I know I could not score even close to that today.
  8. I have 3 different 380's.1 Bersa Thunder 7 rounds, 1 Bersa model 85 15 rounds and a S&W Body Guard 5 rounds Pocket gun and a Phoenix 22 10 rounds. I carry the Thunder 95% of the time with 2 back up mags mostly because I can hit what I am shooting at with it.
  9. I know this topic has been discussed many times but I think one more won't hurt and they are a topic David posted pertaining to self defense caliper and ammo. I have been told many times that I need to own a bigger gun for self defense because a 380 is not enough. I would like to hear thoughts on the issue again. I know a 380 Caliper is not a cannon but it is and has been my carry choice for many years. I'm thankful I have never had to test it on a bad guy to find out but I have 1 point I would like to make. I know that Penetration has been discussed along with the mushroom of the projectile damage done to the bad guy. Both are probably effective with out a doubt but I have another option. Bullet placement. I saw this first hand back years ago when a fight broke out in a bar in my home town. One guy was really a big guy and the other guy a little smaller than average. When it was over the smaller guy pulled a 38 Cal snubby and put 5 rounds into the big guy and the big guy broke the smaller guys neck, threw him on the floor went out of the bar, got in his car and drove himself to a hospital 9 miles away and actually survived being shot 5 times at almost point blank. I saw the guy a month later and he was not charged for killing the guy is self defense but I was confused the 5 rounds at almost point blank and out walking around and driving himself to the hospital. I didn't speak to him when I saw him. He was killed a month later in another bar dispute but this time he pushed his luck and threw a bottle of liquor at a local police officer while looking down the muzzle of a 12 gauge and the police officer new Andy's reputation and put an end to it. Now with all the story what is the verdict. Was the 38 not big enough Caliper? Was it was it penetration? I have my own verdict I blame the whole death of the guy with the gun with poor bullet placement. The 38 snubby should have been plenty of fire power at that range. Lets hear ye !!!!!!!!
  10. I have zero plans on buying one and even the memory of that one time pulling the trigger on that one makes my entire body hurt and especially my right shoulder.....lol.
  11. I thought I would ask that question because back about1983 I was visiting a buddy of mine down at the Craig Ranch he owned and while I was sitting on the back porch drinking some Ice tea when he can walking out the door with what I thought was a 4.10 side/side shotgun. Out in the back of his yard was an old dog house and he handed me the gun and told me to shoot the dog house. I knew that the gun felt a lot heavier then my 4.10 s/s but I stood up and walked to the edge of the porch, raised the gun and pulled the trigger. Derby was busting out laughing as I was knocked back against the house. He looked at me and said there is another round in it and I said yea and it's gonna stay in it too!!!!!! My first mistake was not paying more attention and my second was not tucking the butt tight against my shoulder before squeezing the trigger. Derby fired off the second round but he had shot that thing a couple times and knew on the tuck and pull.....LOL. I had the head of a Bengal Tiger head bruised into my shoulder for about a week or longer. The gun was made by Holland & Holland by special order from a Prince in Nu Deli India to go tiger hunting. The head was engraved in the butt plate. Derby use to travel all over the world working cattle herds with his three Blue Heelers and two horses. He leased them to the bigger Cattle Ranches at Cattle drive time. I got to go on one Cattle drive right here state side with him and watch his dogs work on the Gatlin brothers Ranch down in Franklin Tennessee. On one of his trips is how he came to own that Double Barrel cannon.
  12. Has anyone here besides me shot a 454 or 500 Holland & Holland double barrel?
  13. Rosie has been acting strange since she woke me up earlier than normal and has only just now decided to lay down after an active morning. I didn't feel anything.
  14. I was having similar issues and David got my issue fixed and I'm sure he will have to firing on all 8 cylinders soon!!!!!
  15. I can relate to a 60 pound Basset Hound!
  16. That is the Constelation known as the Seven Sisters and is in the north western skies almost every clear night.
  17. I thought I would post a reply to your thread and see if you have had any luck finding employment since it has been a while since you made this post? Bersaguy
  18. I am probably the only person that feels this way but all of this crazy weather fronts and storms floods etc etc didn't start until the Global Warming started really taking effect. Back when I was a kid we had normal Rain showers, normal snows and normal temps and now we have weather men and women that will post a screen of weather for 7 days and might hit 1 day in 7 correct.
  19. I would rather have folding dead Presidents than Gold, Silver or Diamonds. Also I am no in the market for any new firearms but it's nice to know about the hot guns.

    Gun sales

It's been a while but back several years ago when my buddy BT passed away I had made him a promise that if anything ever happened I would help his wife dispose of his long guns. I made a post here and had one person meet the prices I placed on them and he also bought all the ammo that went with the guns. I made arrangements to ship all the long guns in hard cases he supplied. When I shipped them they were at post office with Priority/Tracking. It took a couple weeks to get the transfer complete but went smoothly. I had to switch to UPS for the ammo and had to use UPS labels on all the packages. It went smoothly also. I can't exactly remember how many long guns he purchased but I was glad to get it done. It was an instate shipment.
  21. I am 100% with folks that think a scope on a Lever action Brush gun is really a waste of money. I grew up deer hunting with my grandfathers Winchester Model 94 and I bagged 32 over the time I was able to pass it down to my son Ronnie and he bagged his first deer and his17th Deer before he passed it down to his son Justin who also bagged his first deer and I don't know how many he will end up with because he is still hunting with it. He is a very good hunter. I will post a picture of him with a deer he bagged in Texas while on a hunt and no, the 94 does not get credit for the one in the picture.
  22. My Son in law got a Rossi Lever action 44mag rifle for Christmas and is looking for a Red Dot scope for it and I told him to let me check with folks here first. Myself, I think it is to much scope for the range of the gun but his heart is set on that combo so I'm not gonna argue with him. If anyone has one here wants to get rid of a Red Dot please let me know. Thanks Bersaguy
  23. The only 2 Bersa's I will not part with is my first one I bought and it was the one I earned my Carry Permit with and the other belonged to my range partner that died and it is a model 85 double stack and I have spent the last years like he did trying to find a couple back up Magazines for it.
  24. To reply to MEGASTAR's post. My Screen name should help a little. At one time I owned 7 Bersa Thunders and 4 Firestorms. I have slowly began moving them to new homes. I was able to begin when I turned lose of the Bersa 40 Cal.
