I have a high school education and the rest of my education came from hands on working. Back in the mid 80's I was employed at Brentwood Shell as mechanic when shell made the decision that all dealers had to get their mechanics ASE certified in 90 days. My boss went and purchased all the books he could find and passed them out to the mechanics for them to study so they could pass the tests. When he got to me and offered the books I just smiled and said thanks Rhea but I won't need them for the test. He said, Are you sure and I said yea. Test day comes and we go to Hillsboro High school to take the exam. The director was asking each person which tests they wanted to take to qualify for certification. When he ask me I said I was going for the Master and he looked at me and said that he has only had 2 other people try that test and both failed it but got certified on a few of the tests they took. I said well, maybe I can pass a few of them but he handed me the Master test. We had 4 hours to finish the test in. I got up in about 3 hours and walked up and handed in my test and left and went to get a snack and bottle of water. The director met me in the hall way about 3 minutes later and was smiling. He looked at me and said congratulations. was the first person he had ever had to get a grade of 95 on a Master exam for ASE that he had given. I took all 9 exams in one test and got an over all 95. About two weeks later we got our plaques and mine said ASE Master Technician on it. I also got all 9 patches to have to sew on my shirt along with the big patches to so on that said ASE Master Certified. That was the only patch I had put on my uniform shirts. I didn't want all the bars down the sleeves. Rhea, my boss came out to the shop and ask me to come to his office. I did and he said he was going to give me a raise on my Commission bonus we got each month which was a percentage we made each month. Everyone else including myself got 3% of our gross earnings each month over and above our hourly wage we earned each week. He raised me to 5% for being a Master Tech. I Credit all my education to the school of hard knocks cause except for reading. writing and math I don't use anything else I learned in school....................jmho

I saw on the news this morning that a drone flew within 100 feet of an airliner that was trying to land at some airport and Pilot almost had to abort landing. I don't have any objections to big boys and their toys but I think Big boys need to grow up when it comes to safety and respect of other people. If they cannot fly their toys and respect the feelings of others and safety of others then they should be arrested and charged accordingly.............jmho

Drones without cameras flying over someones property would be different but camera's make it invasion of privacy in my opinion... :ugh: :ugh:

Maybe if they move it to California the fault line might fall apart from all the extra Bull Sh-t that will move there and California will fall off into the ocean and improve our country greatly..........jmho

I'm not exactly sure this is the type of drone they are talking about. This particular drones don't hover over someones back yard and they fly a lot higher than you would be able to shoot down with anything short of Shoulder mounted missile. Plus if you get caught they might just blow your house up and declare you a home grown Terrorist...........jmho

I grew up rabbit hunting and of all game I enjoyed hunting and eating rabbit topped the list. I had a couple beagles, one was a National Champion named Book Makers Bet and Bet for short. She was a Lemon Drop color and had a mouth on here like a coon hound and was slow but seldom if ever ran a rabbit in a hole and the other was a Tri-color named john Henry. He also had a coon hound mouth on him. The hunted great together. John was the jump dog and Bet was the tracker for the most part. I would love to be able to go rabbit hunting a few more times before I get to where I can't but don't have dogs any longer so would have to get invited. Now with that said, finding places to hunt is not to easy but finding good locations is even harder these days since the coyote's have become a real issue for rabbits and other small game. I have a few friends that have farms and have given me permission to hunt them but without dogs I have never taken up any of the invites. Also would require a lot more walking than I think my body would take without dogs.........jmho

I have not been to Bud's and it sounds like a big place but they had and may still have one in Anchorage Alaska that covers a square block of down town Anchorage. I was in the store back in the late 60's while stationed up there during Training and you can walk around in there for a week and never see all of it. It had more long guns in it than the Armory at the Kodiak Naval Special Training center where we were stationed while up there................

The way I look at it if it can't fly over the White House, It can't fly over my house with out danger of being shot down. I have my right to privacy and should be able to protect my own airspace just like they do the White House. They have been having issues with drones flying out west and endangering planes flying water and fire retardant to fight forests fires and they have actually had to stop flights till they can get the drone operators to quit flying. I think they should have arrested anyone they caught flying out there. .............jmho

Funny for sure. Last time I was in DC was 2000 and I drove right down passed 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with no trouble. When did it become a sidewalk?...................................

Well over the years as a mechanic there was several times I had to go to an eye doctor to get a piece or two of metal out of my eye and a couple times they actually had to scrape it off my eye with a needle so I can deal with the numbing drops part ok as that's what they used also. I have already prepared my daughter to fact that I might need help with eye drop protocol both before and after surgery so she is kind of ready also with Grand daughter offering to help so should be good on that part. As far as the Ming Wang guy. I have horror stories about him and have no intentions of getting near him. Thanks all for the input...............

MY unit did same thing or very similar about 3 weeks ago. Land Lord put in a new thermostat and problem was solved. Old thermostat was send false messages to the unit causing the blower to run constantly and heat and a/c was alternating back and forth........ :2cents:

Gosh, you make it sound like a cake walk........... :stunned: Maybe I am putting to much into it but I just don't know how much more my old body can take before it says enough is enough. My eye doctor recommended Loden Eye Vision to do the work as he said he has used them many times for his patients with a very positive results. I have one of those offices about 1/2 mile from my home.

I guess my main question is do they use a lazer to remove them these days or do they still use a scalpel. My mother had an attempt to remove one of her cataracts about 10 years ago with the doctor using a scalpel and she hemorrhaged and was blind in her right eye from it and I also have high BP that is under control but don't want to end up like my Mother did.

I have no plans of any type of fancy lenses. Just basic cataract surgery and new glasses. My question to you is was your wife's surgery done with lazer surgery?

I never wanted a facebook account and my daughter signed me up for one without asking. I went through hell trying to close it out and finally after months of trying finally succeeded. I don't do face book, twitter or any of the other gossip to the world my whole life story sites and don't have any intentions of that changing any time soon............. :2cents:

I just got back from eye doctor and didn't get good news but was not unexpected. The new eye doctor was great, very thorough about his exam and explanations. He said it would be unfair for him to make glasses for me because of the cataracts I have on both eyes. His recommendation is for me to have my cataracts removed before getting new glasses. He said I won't believe the difference I will see just in the removal of them. He said the glasses I get after the removal will improve my vision almost 100%. Now my question to ya'll is has anyone here had cataracts removed recently and what was the outcome? My eye doctor has referred me to Loden Vision Center for the cataract surgery. Has anyone here ever use Loden Vision Center? Any information will be very much appreciated, Thanks

I have not seen any true hippies since the early 70's when I came home from Nam. The actual Hippie era was during the Vietnam years. Tree Huggers yea plenty of them but they are coming out of the colleges of today. I know there are some here that served in Nam and some that were not even born before it ended but there is a change for the better in one area. That is how the troops are treated when they come home. Instead of cussing and spitting on our troops they are greeted with Cheers and waving American flags. Now lets look at that. Many of these people that were cussing and spitting are the same people today welcoming our troops home. Difference is???? the troops they are welcoming home today are their Children or Grandchildren. For that one change I am thrilled. I am also thrilled to see all the people that step up and work with Wounded Warriors and the many other Veteran and Wounded Hero's programs. Can any of you Nam vets here remember being offered any of these services? I can't. After that shooting that killed the Marines and Sailor it was not police that went to guard all the recruiters and training centers because they are not allowed to be armed. It was veterans and former LEO"s and just plain Americans that stepped up to the plate to protect our protectors.. I could not believe it when I read a report this morning from DoD asking recruiters and men at the training centers to ask the civilians protecting them to stand down. They also asked them to call the police if they wanted the Civilians removed. To date not one recruiter or training center has made a request they leave or called the police. The DoD is a bunch of Socialist Bureaucrats Teat suckers that are not willing to arm or request that they be armed in these stations. They would rather have more of what happened last week to happen again to help push their anti gun issues. As long as the Civilian guards are on duty the terrorists will not hit a hard target that they do not have a good kill rate possibility. I am very proud of these men and women that have stepped up and put their lives on the line to protect our Protectors. If My health was better and I could deal with heat I would be at our local Marine Recruiter Office and if they are still there when the weather Cools I will be stepping up to do my part. Off My cart now...................... :ugh: :ugh:
