I have an older Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 High Output engine and my manual says to check the oil before startup first thing in the morning to get accurate oil level reading. The only oil leak my jeep has ever had was once I had a leak at the oil filter adapter. O'Ring was leaking. Had my son fix it and has never leaked since. I do also know that with some of the newer synthetic oils on the market, they do not react like Fossil base oils and do not expand as much. You might want to find out what brand of oil he is using in his Jeep..............jmho

Thanks for the insight about the number of rounds in the boxes but I think we have all seen things like that and not in ammo so much yet but in the food industry it has been running wild. You buy a box of Mac and Cheese Velvetta brand and compare it to a box you may have bought 6 months ago and your paying the same price for less product. I have been seeing that in many many products in stores these day. Companies have been down sizing product packaging yet still charging same or higher prices. I wonder how many people have noticed that with out saying much about it..................

The fishing dynamics have changed on OldHickory Lake
bersaguy replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Yea I knew there was several different species of them. I have never hunted them or fished for them and back years ago when I would catch one on a limb line while fishing for catfish I would just cut them loose and not kill them. They like Pond Perch on limb lines about as much as Flat Head catfish do............  -

When you refer to a small gator you are referring to a fish........Right? I Have caught several small Alligator Gars on Jigs tipped with a Crayfish trailer at Guntersville flipping buck bushes in pockets. Man when they begin that death roll it gets exciting. Thing is when they do that they sign their own death warrant. I use 60 and 80 lb braid to flip jigs and when they do the death roll they tie their own mouths shut and aii I do is cut the line when I get them next to my Skeeter Bass Boat and they swim off. -

Ok, but you need to know that the alligator gar is the short nosed Gar and not the Needle Nose Gar. The Needle Nosed Gar has a long thin beak lined with teeth and is the most common. I have seen Alligator Gar in the Tennessee River in Guntersville several times while bass fishing the lake. Was fishing a weed line just below the Comer Bridge one day and noticed something out of the corner of my eye and turned to look at it. I'm at the front of a 20 ft Bass Boat and right beside the boat were 2 Alligator Gars about 5 feet apart cruising beside the boat. As a joke I told my partner not to fall out or he would be lunch. He turned and saw them and he said a few words I can't say here. Both of them had their nose about even with the nose of the boat and their tails were back by drivers windshield and they were about as big around as a 6 inch stove pipe. I turned the boat towards them with the trolling motor and they didn't panic but just drifted out of site. Never saw them again...................  -

If you do see any Asian Carp or Silver Carp please kill them and if possible just throw them up on the bank and the Coons and opossums will make short work of them so they won't be going to waste. You can do the same with Gar and other breeds of carp. I know what you mean when you say it's hard to get out of the woods in October to go fishing. I use to have that same problem but I found time to do both. If your 10 miles up river from Steam plant you must be close to the 231 Bridge area. Back when I was fishing Bass tournaments I would go under the 231 bridge and never slow down till I reached the mouth of the Caney River....lol. Other Anglers said I was crazy to make that run from Bulls Creek on Sunday Mornings until I began taking their money home with winning bags of fish. I can't help you with much stuff in the area you fish. I seldom fished Rocky Creek or Little Cedar Creek up that way. Now if you know where Bently's Landing launch ramp is that is a great Pocket for bass fishing and if your going in there from the river mouth as you begin to travel down that right side after the first few boat docks on the right bank, if you look close you will see some steel cables running into the water. That is a deep bank and the folks that live in that pocket and own those boat docks have drilled holes in standing trees near the bank and then put in the cables. Attach the cab;e to a steel stake and then cut the tree below the cable dropping the tree into the water near their docks and created some wonderful Crappie brush piles and you will find Bass in them also. I use to go up there and limit in big Crappie about every time I went. Use Red & Chartreuse or Black & Chartreuse Crappie tubes. I figure since i am no longer able to use these locations I will share them with folks.............  -
Those seats are nice but your head needs to be on a swivel as well when the birds are flying and after the first week of being shot at it really becomes fun. The birds are flying faster and you need to lead them farther. I have seen many a Dove fly through a field of 30 plus shooters and out the other side and never lose a feather. Thats when it really becomes fun...................

If you really want to tie into the bigger Rock Fish just wait till about mid to late October / early November when water temps drop. Then since you like top water tie on a Zara Spook in shad color and go up and fish the mouth of steam plant discharge early in the morning. You better have some really tough gear and 60lb Braid line. If you don't have any luck there go down the the discharge of the sewer plant on the right side of the main channel about midway between 109 bridge and Station Camp creek. Just watch for the birds to tell you if the shad are working there. If the birds are there the Rock Fish are also. Move out on that flat and use that Zara Spook or a Pencil Popper. Water temps will have to be in lower 60's upper 50's before this feeding will start in earnest but you need to keep watch for when it happens. Right now the catfish are being caught on Shrimp really well up on the ledges of the main channel below 109 bridge on right side going down. Once you get past Peach valley move over onto the top of the ledge in about 12 foot of water and put a shrimp on below a float about 18 inches and no weight. Just let it drift around and watch the float. Shouldn't take long to have a few cats in the boat. The gar are the reason your not seeing as many bigger Blue Gills and Pan fish as that is the gars main source of food. The more the gars the less the pan fish. As for the Bass, they are in beginning of Fall transition and are now following the shad so what ever the shad are doing the Bass are also doing. This is a tough time of the year to try and pattern Bass. I hope I get my vision corrected early enough to be able to do some Fall fishing on Old Hickory this year. I love that lake......  -

Gosh I miss Dove Hunting along with all other hunting I can no longer do but enjoy reading about the great folks here that can still get out and bag some game for the dinner table. I have been giving some thought to trying to do a little hunting once I have my eyes fixed and my Son In law owns just enough land I could maybe do some Tree rat hunting with my 22 rifle. It's about the only long gun I can still shoot that does not make my shoulders hurt like hot pokers being shoved in them when I pull the trigger..................

Well, this may come back to bite me in the butt but going to suggest it anyway. I don't know the numbers but I would guess that every time a police officer is in uniform these days he is somewhat of a target. Also every time a police officer is on patrol he also has a lot of legal carry people around him. Because he does not have eyes in the back of his/her head it might not hurt to be their eyes and let law bidding legal carry folks act like some kind of back up and begin being the eyes in the back of his head. There is no way i could stand back and see someone getting ready to shoot an officer in the back without doing something. I don't think anyone here would allow it to happen. Next time you see an officer fueling his vehicle or are approaching one that has a car pulled over on side of road. it might not hurt to drive by slowly and take a close look at the situation to see if the officer may be in danger. Just be somewhat like a Guardian Angel sorta thing. If a legal carry civilian saves even one officers life that would be a victory for the good guys.............jmho

have some Russian 380 ammo KYP4 made in Novosibirsk Russia. It shoots very well but is very dirty and each time I come from the range I tear down and clean my guns because it leaves nasty black film on the actions of the guns......... :2cents: .

THE PHONE A young man wanted to get his beautiful blonde wife something nice for their first wedding anniversary. So he decided to buy her a cell phone. He showed her the phone and explained to her all of its features. Meg was excited to receive the gift and simply adored her new phone. The next day Meg went shopping. Her phone rang and, to her astonishment, it was her husband on the other end. "Hi Meg," he said, "how do you like your new phone?" Meg replied, "I just love it! It's so small and your voice is clear as a bell, but there's one thing I don't understand though..." "What's that, sweetie?" asked her husband. "How did you know I was at Wal-Mart?"

Since my nose has not worked well since smelling Napalm in the mornings back in the early 70's I guess that smell of the AGUILA.22lr wouldn't bother me. As long as they hit where I aim with consistency I would like them.

In all honesty gun sales skyrocketed on November 8th 2008 and at times may have flat lined a little but I don't think they have declined since then and have had large increases at others. First gun show I went to after the election in 2008 was in January 09 and they had a big picture of Obama with a sign under it reading "Gun Salesman of the Year" and that was only 3 months after the election............jmho

Man's best friend, asset or liability?
bersaguy replied to Rhodewarrior's topic in Survival and Preparedness
When Kasey was a lot younger she loved sleeping in her dog house during major thunderstorms. Since she has gotten older it can thunder 20 miles away and she is scratching at the door wanting inside. It can be sun shining at the time but by the way she follows me around the house I know a storm is coming. Most times within an hour it is raining buckets out side. -

I don't even go to my mail box out by the road without a gun and my hand on it in my pocket. I have known of folks getting robbed while out cutting their grass. There is really no where that is actually safe anymore. Robbers are getting more brave these days. I'm just glad no one was hurt in that one.............jmho -
Man's best friend, asset or liability?
bersaguy replied to Rhodewarrior's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Every time I purchase items to add to my survival stock I always buy food and supplies for Kasey. She will go with me if I have to take flight but I will most likely make my stand right here since I feel safer here than in the woods. I would never be able to take my supply of SHTF survival items with me. With that said I have also built another stash at another undisclosed location that is far out deep in the country in a safe location that is checked on often and certain products replaced as expire dates get close. If I had the time I would load what I could in my Jeep and make the move to the # 2 location but Kasey would still be with me.................jmho -
A guy was getting ready to tee off on the first hole when a second golfer approached and asked if he could join him. The first said that he usually played alone, but agreed to the twosome. They were even after the first few holes. The second guy said, "We're about evenly matched, how about playing for five bucks a hole?" The first guy said that he wasn't much for betting, but agreed to the terms. The second guy won the remaining sixteen holes with ease. As they were walking off number eighteen, the second guy was busy counting his $80.00. He confessed that he was the pro at a neighboring course and liked to pick on suckers. The first fellow revealed that he was the Parish Priest. The pro was flustered and apologetic, offering to return the money. The Priest said, "You won fair and square and I was foolish to bet with you. You keep your winnings." The pro said, "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?" The Priest said, "Well, you could come to Mass on Sunday and make a donation. And, if you want to bring your mother and father along, I'll marry them."

I have a close friend that lives in Robbinsville NC. He is one of my really good bait customers and has bought baits from me for years. I was totally unaware that because of where he lives which is up on the mountain that is almost named after his family that unless you have a PO box in the post office that they only get mail delivery on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at the resident mail boxes. My friends name is Joey Bridges and the road he lives on is named after a distant relative named Jeff Bridges Road. Most of the roads on that particular mountain are named after a Bridges family member. Joey watched them do most of the filming of the movie "Deliverance with Burt Reynolds and he said that those folks in the movie where that young boy played dueling Banjo's with that movie star and that old man danced where actual people that live on the mountain on the lower level. He can walk out his back door and look at that rail road bridge that was in the movie. He has invited me down several times to come and go fishing with him for Small mouth bass on Lake Fontana but I have never went. I wish now 10 years ago when he offered I would have went............................  Below is a picture of Joey and his grandson..
