The Narrows of the Harpeth area has some great smallmouth bass fishing. That is only about 10 miles from my Grandfathers farm that we lived on that is located in Petway Tennessee. I floated that river in a jon boat many times with a friend from Newsome Station to Mouth of Harpeth at the Cumberland River taking time to camp at night on Gravel bars and catch fish for supper. Those were some great times. The float would take about 5 days if the river was full of water. Some times there would be 2 or 3 boats making the float together..................

Winds can be tough for on the lake. Depending on how cold it is layers are good around 50 degrees with a Gortex rain suit. When I use to fish Dale Hollow Lake on FNF in the dead of Winter I wore a heated Snowmobile suit that hooked into a 12 volt system on the boat and stayed toasty warm all day, even when running 40 MPH across the lake in 20 degree temps. There are other options also that work quite well. Put a tee shirt on the table at home and tape 2 of the large foot warmer heat packs to the back of the shirt on the outside in the kidney area and take it with you to the lake. Once there activate the heat packs and put the tee shirt on and then add outerwear. If you can keep your kidneys warm they will help keep your body warm. Works good in hunting conditions also............just my :2cents:

"Until this week, I had never been fired, never been formally reprimanded, never had any major failings. I am sure that is to be expected. I wish I could say that but I was just the opposite. I couldn't count the times I got any one of those things on all my fingers and toes but for the most part it was my fault. I was very good at my occupation and I knew it and that was my problem. The longest time I stayed at any job was the last one I worked at and that was a family owned Repair shop and I was there 10 years before the service station their family had leased from 1949 to 1990 did not get the option to renew their lease. I was unknowingly about to go on disability anyway so it worked out for me kinda. Glad things worked out so well for you and your family and hope you have a wonderful future with this new company.........

Anybody here have or have ever built a smokehouse?
bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in Survival and Preparedness
One thing I forgot to add in my previous post was the pillow cases or white sheets. Once your meat is completely done and you are going to leave it hanging till used you may want to wrap each piece of meat in a pillow case or cut up white sheet to keep the flies from laying eggs in the meat come warm weather. -

bersaguy replied to gregintenn's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Depends on how much and what kind of meat you plan on smoking. The one we had on the farm always had Hams, Bacon slabs, jowl hanging from at least 2 250 lb hogs plus needed space in the smoke house for a salt box to pack the meat in salt a couple weeks prior to smoking. So a lot depends on what you plan on smoking and how much. Ours was built with rough sawmill lumber and tin roof with cracks between boards for smoke to escape. Don't see them much any more but a cool idea...........jmho -
If you watch it pretty close it appears that both of the deer seem to realize he was trying to help them and they looked like they almost kind of settled down some. Might have just been from exhaustion cause the one was breathing really hard but glad it all turned out ok......

It could have very well been since it was shortly after our moving onto Grandfathers Farm here from West Chicago and I was not to familiar with snakes in the south. All I know is it was black from a distance and Grandfather told me to not kill any black snakes period.

Show Of Hands -- Who would prefer to use a Credit Card over PayPal?
bersaguy replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I voted Debit/Credit card because back several years ago I had some bad issues with Paypal and still have the bad taste in my mouth from it. Mine incidents with them were also back when they merged with E-Bay like Randall, but I won't go back if at all possible to avoid them........... :ugh: -

I did get stopped about 3 months ago on a seat belt violation for which I was not ticketed because I did have my lap belt on, just not my shoulder strap. When he approached my vehicle I did notice he was a bit cautious at first and I handed him both my HCP and drivers license. I also handed him a letter from my doctor made out to Law enforcement or Judge requesting that I be excused from wearing the shoulder strap do to a major medical abdominal health issue. He did actually take the time to read the letter. He was very nice and very understanding about my health issue and did not ticket me. He seemed much more relaxed once I handed him my HCP with my DL. He said he knew I had an HCP before he approached my vehicle. I am assuming just by running your license plate tells an officer you may have a weapon............jmho

Not sure how her policy reads but I had a policy similar to that when my son has his accident and It was a BCBS policy through where I worked and in my hand book from the company on page 63 I think it stated that "NO" insurance company in Tennessee can drop any patient during a benefit period which means as long as she would be under a doctors care. Once BCBS learned that my son was going to be a long term patient they tried to to discontinue his coverage but my attorney stopped them from doing so pretty quick so they did cover him for the full amount of 3 million dollars which was the limit.................

I voted last time and I will vote this time for who ever GOP picks but I just hope it is someone that can go toe to toe with the Hildebeast in the debates. In all Honesty I think about 80% of the people that vote make up their minds just from the debates and not the campaigns themselves...................jmho

Which flashlight is the best?
bersaguy replied to gomer pyle's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I was looking for a small flashlight and was in a TSC store getting wild critter food and on a discount table they had some small lights like I was looking for. It's called a Jobsmart and operates on 3 AAA batteries. I have to admit this has got to be the best small light I have ever owned. Has adjustable beam with that goes from wide to pin point and I can see a rabbit easily at 250 to 300 feet away in neighbors yard on pinpoint. I went out the other night to check to see if I could see cables on poles that run through my back yard and it lit up the cables and transformers on the poles with no problems. Hope to be able to get a second one or two when I go back to TSC. -

Back when I lived in Greenbrier I got my last ticket which would now be over 25 years ago. I was driving through Watertown about 3:30 AM heading for a bass tournament on Center Hill Lake dragging my boat. Was cruising at about 55 MPH when I saw rollers come on and since I was the only vehicle on the road I just slowed and pulled over. Officer was nice while asking for license and registration. He walked back to his car and wrote me the ticket for 50 in a 30 and not 55 or he would have had to take me to jail for reckless driving. I signed the ticket and we exchanged good byes and I went on to fish. Upon getting home I took the ticket out and read the information on the back about what the fines where. I had already made up my mind I would just pay it rather than make that long drive back to attend court. On the very bottom of the information it said "No Checks accepted" Well I pondered over it for a day or two and just sat down. wrote a check to the Watertown Court clerks Office where it said the ticket could be paid and mailed it. 6 days later my check cleared my bank and I never heard another word about it from Watertown and my insurance did not go up. I learned right then that it is all about the money. The say they won't accept checks but they accepted mine. They had what they wanted which was the $57.50 for the fine. Now I don't know about this day in time and tickets but I did have to go with a friend to traffic court about 2 years ago for speeding. He was going 74mph in a 65 MPH Zone. Hendersonville on Vietnam Vets Highway. He wanted to fight it in court. Bad idea. He ended up paying the fine of $90.00 + $105.00 court cost and it went on his driving record. I told him to just pay it by mail and let it go but he was bull headed. Ended up costing him a day of work wages plus $195.00. ..............................

I'm beginning to think I owned a special rifle or something. Back in 1989 after they stole all my guns in home burglary in 1988 I bought a used Marlin 30-30 from an old man that lived about 5 doors down from me. He told me it was a deer slayer. Well, I bagged 4 deer that year with it. No Scope, just open sights. The following year I let my younger son borrow it to go hunting because I was involved with taking care of his brother. He ended up bagging three deer and his first one was a 14 point buck. Since I had pretty much quit hunting by then I just let him keep the gun. When his oldest son Justin got into hunting at about age 10 he had bought a 30-06 and passed the Marlin down to Justin. On his first Juvenile Hunt Justin also bagged a 14 point buck. Thinking it was just luck but now I am beginning to wonder. I have a young grandson named Logan that came along as a surprise to them after Justin and Cody his first 2 sons were 19 and 17. Well, Logan was always after Justin to take him hunting so he started taking him Squirrel hunting and Justin said he was a natural hunter. Last year at age 10 Justin passed the marlin down to Logan cause he bought a 270 to hunt with and Logan's first deer last year was of all things, a 14 point buck. Gun still does not have a scope so all those big deer have been taken with young people with open sights. The old man said it was a deer slayer and he was sure right. Just wanted to share that with ya'll cause I thought it was kind of odd.........................

Smoked sausage and other things to do with deer.
bersaguy replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Last doe my grandson bagged for me, except for the back strips it was all made into hamburger. I can no longer do i myself some I have the Mennonites up in Kentucky do the burger and they add a touch of beef fat to keep it from being so dry and make it in 2 lb sticks. Great for chili or Hamburger helper or just about anything else you would use burger for. They also can make some killer Summer Sausage. Time before last I had them split up 1/2 burger and 1/2 Summer sausage. Great on Crackers or just sliced off and eaten. Their prices I find to be more than fair..............jmho
