Well, I hold no ill feelings towards anyone expressing their views on this issue at all. I am very proud of how the American people have gotten behind our troops and veterans 150% for sure. I also remember a more darker side of the American people back when I came home. We were met and the airport by crowds throwing tomatoes and eggs at us and calling us baby killers. I was told by rank and file that it might be best if I arrived home wearing civilian clothes to avoid the carnage. I did not. I worn my Dress Whites as I departed the plane at Nashville International and there was not a tremendous amount of people there because it was raining but enough to get their point across. I never faltered as I walked the Airport but walked with my head up. Had to have my dress whites dry cleaned and I was glad to have met Mr. Webster, the dry cleaner. He worked very hard to get my uniform especially clean and pressed at no charge to me. That is why I am like I am about any thing that might in the slightest way support our troops today even if just in SPIRIT!!!! I have realized another thing as I think about back then and today. That is the very people that were at the airports back then throwing things an screaming baby killers, I often wonder how many of those same folks are now the same ones Welcoming home our vets of today? Ever think about the fact that those same people are welcoming home LOVED Ones today. I wonder how many of them remember another time they were welcoming home troops many years ago and now realize what is was like for Loved ones of troops returning from Nam and watching them go through that carnage. I didn't even let my family know when I would be arriving so they wouldn't be at the airport. So yea, I am proud of every little thing I can do for the Vets Past , Present and future as long as I am breathing. So as for any ill feelings, I have non for anyone here. I was thrilled when he wrote and told me he would not be re-enlisting also. The recruiter promised him the moon to get his signature on that dotted line and he did not get one thing he was promised. They make the commercials on TV look so great and make promises they know they will not keep but sell them anyway. Off my soap box now!!!!!!!.............. :hiding:

Walmart set a goal to hire 250,000 Veterans by 2020 and to me that is doing something. Jobs , even jobs at Walmart might help some down and out Veteran that is really struggling right now. Who knows what the future will bring for many Veterans? Not me, but this is IMO a job is a good start in the right direction...........JMHO

Well as best I can tell 96r it is a to show our veterans that they are being remembered which to me means a heck of a lot. It is just a little reaching out to let a down and out vet see a green light and know it represents an American that appreciates all he/she gave for Love of Country. I would have thought that was pretty well self explanatory but maybe not to some. Was there not a thread on here only about a week ago about reaching out to our Veterans?.................

Yea, I know!!! Sure gonna mess up the Mutt again. She has a stomach that can tell time better than any clock I have and it also tells her what time is nite nite time when she is suppose to get her night time snacks for bed. It takes her about a month or so to adjust so for the next month she will be scratching at the door at 4PM instead of 5PM and scratching at the door to go to bed at 7PM instead of 8 PM. So my schedule will change also since we eat supper at same time but night time will remain the same and she will have to just adjust to that............

It is an ongoing program that will continue to show support to our Veterans!!!

I read this and I think. How many Latino Gang and Hispanic gang members along with Black gang members that are under the age of 15 that all pack a gun and they think these people will be the ones voting against guns in 10 years? Some how I find that hard to believe. Without guns most gangs would not be able to exist. Guns play a major role in their drug trades and other illegal activity's and some people that come up with this type of BS really thinks these people will vote to gun control. Their families won't even vote in favor of them out of fear from the gangs if they even vote at all since many of the population being counted are illegally here and legally can't vote unless they get approved by Acorn and Obama that is............... ..............jmho

Latex Gloves Next time you use a pair of rubber gloves, you're going to smile when you think of this: A dentist noticed that his next patient, a little old lady, was nervous, so he decided to tell her a little joke as he put on his gloves. ' Do you know how they make these gloves? ' he asked. ' No, I don't, ' she replied. ' Well, ' he spoofed, ' there's a building in Canada with a big tank of latex, and workers of all hand sizes walk up to the tank, dip in their hands, let them dry, then peel off the gloves and throw them into boxes of the right size. ' She didn't crack a smile. ' Oh, well. I tried, ' he thought. But five minutes later, during a delicate portion of the procedure, she burst out laughing. ' What's so funny? ' he asked. ' I was just envisioning how condoms are made! ' (Gotta watch those little old ladies! Their minds are always working!)

I would much rather the police got the satisfaction of killing the SOB. He tried to kill many of them and they deserved some kind of redemption for his actions. Just glad it's over and he didn't hurt anyone else...........

The news has not even mentioned the use of K-9's which I didn't understand with him in the woods and they were that close to were he dumped the truck he wrecked. Dogs would have had him quick IMHO.

I have watched both games and yep, that first game was a barn burner and I watched it from beginning to end and I am definitely pulling for KC. Their pitcher threw a 2 hitter last night. Glad they are 2 games ahead but I bet that will change when Mets get home but I hope not............. :2cents:

Well, I was going to try backing away of somethings mentioned and bacon was one of them. Well, Kroger made me buy bacon yesterday. They had Wrights thick sliced bacon in 40 ounce packs for 5.99 normally about 5 dollars more so I bought 2 packs. Going to have breakfast for supper tonight. Eggs, bacon, Skillet Fried taters with onions and some toast. I thought about biscuits but have to draw the line somewhere so going with wheat toast.................

I'm really glad to hear she has been about shut down and i hope before it's over that some type of legal action is taken against her even though with her evidently long record it would probably just be some kind of probation or slap on the wrist...........jmho

You may want to try Kikkoman Japanese style Bread Crumbs. I use them when I need to make something low carb. They do have a few carbs but nothing compared to things such as Bisquick.

I have bought 3 sets of tires from the Gallatin location plus Boat trailer tires and took 2 of my Grandsons up there for them to get tires and we all got free rotate and balance for life of tires and I can go there anytime and they will check tire inflation for correct amount. Always friendly folks that stumble over themselves trying to serve folks. I will continue doing business with them and recommend them to anyone looking for tires..................

I will share one story from Nam that I have not talked about till right now. My team had just checked in a fire base for a few days R&R and being in jungle for a solid month on recon. New recruits were also arriving at the same time. As they climbed out of the Huey's you could see it in there eyes. They were scared to death. Charlie also knew the new recruits were arriving and many times they would test the fire base and new recruits. That night they hit with mortars and then they charged of the wires with ladders. Everyone was scrambling to get under ground and get ready to fight. A man who will remain nameless jumped into a half covered trench only to see a new recruit that arrived that day trying to get his rifle muzzle in his mouth. The man shouted at him to get that damn gun out of his face and pointed to the wire. The damn enemy is out there and the man began firing at the enemy approaching the wire and the new recruit threw his gun down and buried his head in his arms. As things began to calm down some the man looked at the kid and said just what were you thinking and the boys rely was "I am going home"! The man looked at the boys face and said yea you are and he shot the kid in the foot. Then hollered for a medic and by then things had calmed down except for this boys screaming till the medic arrived. The medic looked at the wound and ask how he got shot in the foot while in a trench and before the kid could say anything the man said accidental discharge during a reload while under fire. As the man started to walk away he turned and said say hi to your family for me. He just looked the the man as he walked away. Just before the kid was loaded on the Medi-vac to go home the man walked passed his stretcher and the young man said "thanks and the man just looked at him and said "for what?" and walked away. If any of you think it was me it was not. It was shared with me by the man that did do it and I asked him why he did it? His reply was that kid was going home and if I didn't send him home he would just do what he was trying to do an hour later. He went home breathing and will probably have a limp. Was the man wrong? I don't know and was not my place to judge him. I know he probably would have been court martial-ed for his actions if the young man would have ever mentioned what took place that night but evidently the young man knew what the man had really done and left it alone also. I have known about that action taken that night since October 1971 and this is the first time I have mentioned it since that night. I probably would not have ever mentioned it had this thread not been started. As I look back the action taken that night may have saved a young man/Soldiers life. I don't know. Hell the kid may have still killed himself after returning home. I hope not but I guess none of us will ever really know..............I do have my own opinion on that action but that will remain sealed.

Suicides by military personnel is not anything new. It just gets more attention now than it did back in the Vietnam era. Like GT said some guys didn't do it because of what we were facing over there but it was what was going on back home in many cases. Also back then many of the young men that were drafted and forced to serve at such a young age really messed them up. Far to many young men went to Vietnam were expecting to be killed. You could see it in their eyes when they arrived in country and didn't have a clue how to approach anything. They were just told to follow orders and they would be fine. Of course that was told to them by an officer here that had never see combat so it was easy for them to say...........JMHO
