  1. I have said it a 1000 times. You don't mess with an old man, he will just kill you and this is a prime example of that. 1 less deadbeat the taxpayers will have to support for many years in jail and another 1 for the good guys...............
  2. I have invested $400.00 once on a handgun and $650.00 on a long gun which I still have both. Any of my others I have were worth more than I gave for them either by getting a good deal or trading around. My income limits my purchases so have not bought anything in quite a while but I have all I think I need to protect my self and my castle............JMHO
  3. Back many many years ago I bought an almost new 1977 Dodge Ramcharger that I dearly loved. It was stock when I got it but after about a year of work it was far from stock. I was a member of an off road club called the Dixie Mud Hawgs and we would go off roading in some serious mud trails. I had a 6 inch Lift kit with 15x35x38 Monster Mudders on my machine and had installed detroit Locking differentials front and rear. Took out the 318 motor and added a HP 340. I took the truck to almost a tank stage but never once stuck it is any mud boggs. Got 3.5 miles per gallon on gas when locked in and it went up to 7.5 unlocked. Came with a 45 gallon fuel tank. I did have to pull out a lot of buddys that would get stuck in them. I had steel studs in the tires. I did learn one very important lesson about 4X4's while I owned that truck. I don't care what kind of rubber and steel you have on the ground. You may be able to go anywhere you choose to go BUT and that is a big BUT on Black Ice you cannot stop any better than a car with bald tires. I slid of the road many times into ditches and the only advantage I had was I could lock everything in an drive back out of the ditch which a car could not do. People for the most part have not clue when it comes to black ice but when I know black ice is on the roads I stay home period.......................
  4. Sounds like some one the gun owner may have known that new that person would be out of town giving them that amount of time to get the safe/cabinet and not be seen.......jmo there. As for my safe and someone stealing it. I won't say it can't happen but I can say they better come well equipt with lots of tools and plan on making a very large amount of noise. I also have neighbors that are extremely nosey and know everything that goes on. They have called me from time to time and ask me if I know about Such-N-Such truck that is in my driveway while I am out and have a full desription and tag number to give me. I have a lot of guys stop in to talk about fishing baits I make and sell so neighbors don't see them enough to know if they belong here or not so they call. My safe is tie bolted to a concrete floor and also a side wall in my house and not garage. I also have every serial number in a floor safe they would have to use a jack hammer to get out. I also have an accurate ammo count so if it did disappear I could give the police an accurate count of that also. This world has gone to hell in a handbag and it is hard to trust anyone if you don't know them or been aquainted with them in some way and then some of them are questionable..................JMHO
  5. IMO many people are under way more stress these days and many times it only takes the honk of a horn to set someone off. There has been many times I have been the second car in line at a stop light and the car or truck in front of me won't move on a green turn arrow or a green light. And when they realize it is green and they begin to move they go when it is yellow. I could have blown my horn but I am not in any hurry to cause a conflict or for that fact to get where I am going that much quicker by just waiting on another light. When I get in my vehicle I put my carry weapon in a holster next to my console cause once I strap my seat beat is becomes much more difficult to gain access to it if needed.
  6. They can mention snow in Tennessee on the car radio and people start wrecking................
  7. I don't think it has ever shown up on any of my posts when I type them but do once I add them to the thread but I might be wrong.
  8. Very sorry to hear of your loss Mac. I have had to go through this several times over the years and it seems to get harder each time...................
  9. I was never much of a fan of MK anyway so no big loss. I did like Greta and never learned why she left. Probably a better offer.
  10. Since I drive a 1997 Jeep Cherokee I no longer carry full coverage on it. If it gets totalled my agent said I would probably get about $1000.00 max on it. That is what I will get paid if I get hit by an uninsured driver also. So now I just carry liabilty and uninsured motorist and I pay my insurance every 6 months. It would cost me more to pay by the month plus it is a pain in the butt making another monthly bill payment. I would pay it by the year but they won't let me. They let me pay my boat insurance yearly and my Renters insurance yearly but not my Jeep. My agent said no one can pay it by the year. She said if the Insurance company wants to raise premimums they won't have to wait a year but can do it in 6 months. She also said she does not agree with that company policy but it is out of her hands.
  11. I had to go pay my boat insurance today and I asked my agent if everyones insurance was gong to go up since the law is finally going to be enforced. She said that as far as she has heard they will not go up to existing insured folks but the new customers may have higher premimums depending on their driving records.
  12. Heck I thought this law was on the books for many years that it was against the law to not have auto insurance if you own and drive a car in Tennessee........................
  13. Your evening sounds about like mine. I watched the tube till about 11PM and went to sleep. Woke up Sunday and learned that 2017 came in without me watching. Imagine that...................
  14. Heres wishing everyone on TGO and their families a HAPPY AND PROPERSOUS NEW YEAR IN 2017.............
  15. Glad your feeling a little better GTG. I began feeling crappy the Sunday before Christmas with sore throat, raw chest, runny nose, chest congestion, and coughing and I am just now beginning to feel somewhat better. Beginning to get some strenght back and feeling like doing anything except sitting around resting. Doctor told me once I am over this I need to get a Pnemonia Shot. Got Flu shot back in November.
  16. Have not seen that one advertised at all this year and yea that was another one I enjoyed.............
  17. I have always enjoyed the Christmas Carols I grew up with which was all of the originals from 50's and 60's. I have spent the last couple days listening to them and remembering them being played by my parents on the old 33 RPM records. Later went to the 45's but still enjoy them today. Been watching all the Christmas programs from years ago also. I have seen 3 different versions of A Christmas Carol and Scrooge and It's a Wonderful Life and even though it's a much later Christmas Movie I really enjoy The Santa Claus both 1 & 2 with Tim Allen. I also enjoy the Cartoon version of the Grinch That stole Christmas but hated the movie version with Jim Carry.............jmho
  18. Well between my Grandsons and my son no one has any more room is any freezers to take any more for us. The Grandsons both bagged three more does and had them processed them and took them to 3 families that are struggling right now and gave them the deers for Christmas. They are done for the year now. All in All between my son and two of my grandsons we have all we need so they are not hunting any more.
  19. I have 2 Bersa's and love them. I have 1 Thunder and 1 model 85. I was fortunate that I bought mine before the 380 ammo became part of the gold market and I was able to get a very good supply of it and now have it all locked up in an ammo safe. I go to the range about 1 time a month and empty both magazines that are in them and put fresh rounds back in after cleaning......................
  20. I have had my share of issues with UPS over the many years I have been making fishing baits. When I order a 5 gallon pail of plastisol it is shipped in a box for what ever reason. This is something they began doing about 3 years ago. For the other previous 15 years they just shipped it in the pail which is very much easier to handle. Just grab the handle and pick it up. Now you have to cut away the box to gain access to the pail handle. The other issue I have with them is I live in a triplex in Cabin C. For some reason when I get a pail delivered it is either left on front porch of A or B and I don't even know if has been delivered until one of the other tennants tell me. With that said, after many complaints to my supplier about the poor service I finally got the driver to actually bring the carton to the front door of my place but the driver was young lady that could not even pick up the box with the pail in it. I told her I would get it and I went on the truck and cut the box off the pail and picked up the pail and brought it in my house. I told her to take the box with her. She thanked me and that worked only once cause next driver on next order left in on porch B again. The guy that lives in B is a road driver and sometimes is not in town for 2 weeks. So when it said delivered on front porch my son in law went around and hunted it down. Then I filed a complaint and told my supplier I never received the package. They checked it with UPS and their records showed as being delivered to front porch. The driver was sent back out to confirm where he put the package along with a supervisor. They had my phone number and they called me while parked out in front duplex parking area. That was when I went around and brought the driver and the supervisor back to my house that clearly has a big letter C above my door. I showed the supervisor the package and right on the delivery label is states Apt C in the rear. On the front of Apartment B there is a large sign that says Apt C around back with an arrow pointing to my driveway. I was polite but gave the supervisor an ear full of what I had been going through for last couple years. Since then I have ordered 3 pails of material and it is put on my front porch. I guess they finally got the point but only time will tell.
  21. I hope they get some good ole fashion mountain justice if caught. The only thing I hate worse than a liar is a thief. ...........................
  22. Believe it or not it was not the shooting and killing that got them closed down. The birds were kept in a building behind the shooters and there was small tunnels that went out into the shooting zones. Once the birds reached the end on the tunnel they would be standing on a small metal platform and a trap door would open and if the bird did not take flight the bird would receive an electric shock that would make them fly. It was the electric shock system that got them closed down. That was what was considered inhumane. I kinda see a negative side to that also cause in most cases the bird would take flight on it's own soon after the trap doors opened and they saw daylight. There was also a certain number of birds that actually did get away and get gone.
  23. I grew up in Illinois out in the country and my buddy still lives up there. At one time he was contracted with the city of Chicago to trap pigeons and he did that until it got to dangerous to be in Chicago and he quit. He had cage traps on many roofs all over the city. I think he said he had about 80 of them. He also had a contract to shoot nets twice a month on Sunday's in the down town loop. The police would close off the loop and not allow anyone in the loop on the Sundays he was shooting the nets. He would get between a 100 and 200 birds with each shot. He had a huge pigeon house and fly pin on his farm and he would keep the birds alive and feed them and keep them till he got an order for some pigeons from one of the gun clubs in Virginia, Kentucky or North Carolina and then he would transport the birds south. He would Be paid by Chicago to trap them and then paid by the bird when he took them south to live bird shoot clubs. He did that for many years until they finally outlawed any live bird shoots in the southern states due to cruelity to animal activist groups. The clubs paid $2.00 per bird for every live bird he brought them which was sometimes 300 birds. These were very elite clubs and I was surprised when he said they got them closed down. It worked out right for him though. He had enough birds to fill his last trip south and ended his Chicago trapping so all worked out well. Even those birds did not go to waste because they allowed the locals to pick up all the dead birds shot at the clubs for food since they were all in the mountains where people could use the food.
  24. Killed about 40 and yep, nothng was wasted back then. My mother would cook them like Cornish Hens with Dressing when she cooked them. We had about 5 farmers in the area that would let up pop pigeons to keep the population limited to just a few. My buddy was the one that came up with the idea of cutting the hulls and it worked great.
  25. Back years ago when I was a kid and did a lot of shooting with a friend we were shooting some pigeons for a farmer to get them out of his barn and ran out of 12 gauge shells. The farmer had some 20 gauge boxes of ammo. He gave it to us and we took our pocket knives and cut the 12 gauge plastic cases off the 12 gauge brass and inserted the 20 gauge rounds inside the 12 gauge cases and were able to shoot the last 3 boxes and finish off the pigeons. Both of us were shooting side by side double barrels. Don't know if it would have worked in pump guns or semiautos..........................
