  1. Back when my 2 boys were school age and had attended a public school through the 4th grade I looked at putting them in a private school. It would have stretched my budget but I left the final decision to my boys. They chose the public school because they had many friends in the public school so public school it was. I didn't want them to go to a school they did not like. Both of my sons were on the Honor Roll every year and they loved their school. I have no regrets.
  2. Well as of an hour ago I am now a paid member of the TFA organization. I took the advice of all the members here. Thanks to all of the replies I received.
  3. There has been discussions about what schools parents can send their children to and the scant funding that public schools receive to operate. Of course most parents would like to send their children to a good school and feel safe about their choice. TCS is located in one of the more upscale neighborhoods being Green Hills but it didn't really matter last Monday. If it would not have been a former student from there I don't think the school would have been targeted....IMO
  4. Might need to look into that judges background!!!! See what he does in his spare time.
  5. Adam Lanza was 20 years old when he did the shooting at Sandy Hook which was a school he had also attended years earlier. He shot and killed his mother before going to the school.
  6. I think you and I are close to being on the same page. I would have never thought TCS would have been a target and it took a former student that had attended school there to be the shooter. That is along the same line as Sandy Hook. Adam Lanza was a former student at Sandy Hook also.
  7. Tell me if I am out of line here but it appears that we are drifting towards putting a price on each Child instead of looking at a solution that addresses the security of all children in all schools. With the technology available today a well trained SRO with the right technology could secure any school. JMHO
  8. OK, I can agree with this idea but what are better schools? There have been school shootings in some of the best schools in the country and some of the average schools. How does a parent choose a school that won't have what happened Monday happen there as well. I think the security issue needs to be addressed first....JMHO
  9. Just so folks know, I did get a reply back to my Veteran idea from two elected officials and they said a similar idea was already being kicked around and being looked at. I have a veteran buddy that I use to go to the range with before I moved out here and he said he would be glad to become a security person at a local school. We spoke on the phone Thursday after he saw all the videos and he said that the cameras showed the shooter shooting out the door glass and that there was two short clips of the shooter outside prior to shooting the glass out. He said that when the shooter stepped through the second door she should have been shot right then. I agreed with him because he said that when she was seen outside in that short film clip with those weapons there was no doubt what her plans were and he would have been ready when she entered the building.
  10. Back a few years ago I wrote to a few of our elected officials about an idea if using Veterans as security in schools. It could be a plan that could be easy to do. Most Veterans could use the extra income and Veterans live all over the country so that means most if not all live close to a school. They are all trained with firearms and would not run from an armed intruder but would move toward them and take them down. Just an idea!!!!
  11. Well I guess I will be looking into joining the TFA I'm not a member of the NRA any longer. I parted ways with them several years back and been looking for a new group to be part of..... Thanks for all the replies.
  12. Thanks bigun. I have been getting emails from them and read some of them and I was just wondering about joining them.
  13. I'm seeking information about wanting to know if the TFA is a good organization to be a member of. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!
  14. Prayers for all that are effected by this terrible accident!!!!
  15. As for the protest yesterday it was not a violent protest but loud and there was a lot of younger people involved and I think the fact that they were dealing with THP may have also helped. I do agree that folks do have a right to protest as long at they can not get violent.
  16. Well, I will kick in my 2 cents. Protests like the one in Nashville yesterday will have zero effect on the elected officials. If you want to protest and be effective the best place to do it is at the Ballot Box. Elected officials hear those protests loud and clear.....JMHO
  17. Back when I lost my oldest son to an auto accident I didn't get depressed but did have problems dealing with it and kind of climbed into a cocoon attitude. I still functioned as needed because I still had a younger son that needed a father and a wife that needed a husband. As time went on I was able to slowly climb out of the cocoon and be myself again. I still think about Doug Jr. everyday and sometimes I wonder what his life would have been today. Even though I was hurting for quite a while I never considered hurting anyone.
  18. I don't know if there is that many doctors as you might think. My doctor knows I carry a gun for my office visits and I asked her if she had a problem with it and she said no and that about everyone in her office including her carries one.
  19. I can agree with much of this. My only issue is if they are going to have medical professions making decisions about who should not own a firearm they need to have s system put in place for that Medical professional to report to other than local law enforcement and it does not act like some generalized Red Flag Law. There needs to be rules put in place that prevents people like mad neighbors, a mad wife or ex wife or girlfriend. It's like you said. The person deserves due process and most police officers don't do that when they respond to a domestic disturbance call. They arrest the person to jail, take all the guns and lock them up. When the person is released, seldom if ever do they get their guns back. That is one of the Red Flag problems that needs to be addressed.
  20. Your right on the body armor @Alleycat72. The bad guy chose that target not expecting any one being armed and shooting back. That will normally send a shooting running away....JMHO
  21. I read an article this morning that was a news interview from her doctor about her emotional issue and he said she should never have been able to buy a gun. That being said means she had to have lied on her application to .purchase at some point. She purchased 7 guns in I think 3 or 4 weeks at 5 different stores.
  22. I expect you are correct SP because the tube magazine holds 17 rounds which is more than they want to allow. They want 10 max. The main issue with the people wanting to take the guns from law abiding folks is the gun grabbers don't know anything about them. They blame to gun for killing people when it is the person with it doing the killing. The gun is nothing more than a tool.
  23. Fox, I have learned if it is black and longer then a pistol to the news and politicians it's a assault weapon! The only long gun I own right now is model 60 Marlin 22lr with a scope.
  24. OK. I guess I will throw my 2 cents at the wall and see what sticks. I have read several posts where folks are trying to decide if the shooter was mentally ill. A sane person would never do what she did. Thing is being mentally ill or crazy does not mean they are stupid but could be very smart and know exactly what they are doing. (Example) The shooter in Colorado that opened fire in that movie theater on opening night of that Batman Movie. There are 6 theaters in that town and all of them where showing the same movie that night. 5 of them were not gun free zones and 1 was. The one gun free zone was the one he chose because he was very afraid of being shot. He also was dressed from head to toe in Body Armor because he was afraid of being shot. When the police arrived he was standing in front of his car with his hands in the air still in full body armor for fear the police might shoot him. He also informed the police that his apartment was wired with explosives and how to disarm them. He was declared to be mentally unstable (crazy) but very intelligent also. If they would open back up Mental hospitals and take all the people they think are a possible mass shooter off the street, they would not get 20% of the people that will become one at some point because they are not stupid. Had there been 1 Sheepdog in that theater that night and began hitting that guys body armor with hot lead he would have broke and ran because he had such a fear of being shot. What would be a big help is people in general. If they see or hear something say something. That shooter lived with her parents and her mother told police that she didn't even know her daughter had any guns. Her father knew she had them and there can't be much doubt he knew she was unstable and did and said nothing......JMO I have said Prayers for everyone involved from the children to the Police officers and will continue to. I want to commend the police officers that ended the shooting very quickly and professionally.
  25. I just watched John Wick 3 last night and he was in it and I got to see the other side of his acting that were not in 1 & 2. He will surely be missed. RIP Sir.
