  1. I just went and read the questions on the application you have to fill out to purchase a firearm. The questions asked about a persons mental state are for the most part useless. Any 3rd grader could answer those and pass the back ground check. In the last 2 shootings the police said the weapons used were bought legally. That is a lie. Both shooters were proven to have mental issues after the fact and both had been under a doctors care and prescribed medications. The school shooters parents stated they they knew their daughter was suffering from emotional and depression and were concerned that she had purchased a gun. That should have raised a red flag with them to get her help and they didn't. The shooter at the bank had a personality change that was showing up for about 10 days prior that folks that knew him was obvious and he suffered several concussions while playing sports in high school and even though he was showing signs of problems no one stepped up to offer him help. He reached out to a friend in a text and a voice mail but they were not received until it was to late. He had also been seen by a doctor and on medication. Just being prescribed medications doesn't mean the person is going to take them. My point to this long post is RED FLAG laws will not address this issue. Maybe if they are going to address the mental issue about mentally ill people lying on the application they need to create a place where the doctors can put information on people they treat that can be recorded. It could be like a mental hospital file that could be a part of the back ground check.....JMHO

I thought I would mention that if you want Cracklin's you can find them in about any grocery store. Kroger's, Food Lion, Publix, Amazon and Sam's to name a few. There are several different brands I have tried but I always try to find the Clifty Farms brand when at all possible. If you can't find them in the store ask someone that works in the meat department and he will take you to them.
  3. You can find quite a bit about the KY Bank shooter if you google it. I learned that he purchased the gun just 5 days before he went to the bank. He also did tell one close friend that he was suicidal but the friend did not get the voice mail until it was to late. I take that with a grain of salt. Just like I take the fact that the parents of the school shooter didn't know she had those guns and new she was unstable emotionally. I believe if I had a child that had emotional issues under a doctors care and was living at home at age 28 I would know a lot more about her activities....JMHO
  4. As long as they are in the store they are not shop lifting. They have to leave the store without paying for it to be shoplifting. Once the person has left the store they have also left his juristic and to follow them was totally wrong. It was a bad shoot and Walgreens will be sued and the guy will probably go to jail.....JMHO
  5. I was thinking about that scene where Josie Wales was walking right at the guy he was having the shoot out with and doing a reload as he walked and shot the guy after reloading. I bet that scene had more than a couple takes to get it right and Clint probably did a lot of practicing to get it right!

    Cornbread

Something that I have not read in this thread is that no one has mentioned Crackling Bread. That was a staple around our house in the winter after hog killings to make smoke house meat. My job when I was still at home was to render the lard and separate the cracklings while the fats where still hot. My Dad and Grandfather were responsible for the smoke house duties of getting the meat packed in the salt and when it came time I would help them hang the meat and start the smoking process. The women were responsible for the processing of anything that was going to be frozen or canned. I guess for the most part that has become a lost art and not very many farms still do it. I loved Crackling bread anytime. Made a good snack about anytime!!
  7. I might be able to add the dry rub to it before I grill it and see if I get a BBQ flavor.
  8. Foot note: You can get the butcher to slice it for you also.
  9. I like fried bologna and have since I was a kid. Never tried it with garlic. I need to add that to my shopping list. I don't know if anyone has ever grilled bologna but it is really good. Thing is you need to get at least 1/2 a stick or more of butchers bologna and slice it into slices about as thick as a hamburger so you can put it on a burger bun and build it like you would a hamburger. Mustard, ketchup, tomato, lettuce or what ever. I like to put a slice of cheese on mine and build from there. You grill the bologna till it's brown on both sides. I made it for my kids when they were growing up and they liked it better the burgers.
  10. Thanks Omega. I didn't solicit anything from them and their emails just began showing up and began talking about how they are fighting for our 2nd Amendment rights in DC and need me to help by sending money. I think they are a scam is why I wanted to get some opinions from folks I trust and that is here of curse!!
  11. I know several people that don't like seafood or fresh water fish and I say to each his own. It took me quite a while to get up the nerve to try Oysters on the half shell and I guess I was about 50 before I finally tried them and saw what I had been missing for years....lol.
  12. I grew up hunting most of my life and hunted with both of my sons up into their teens and when I lost my oldest to a car crash hunting just didn't seem as imp important any more. I did hunt a few times with my younger son for deer. When my health began to be a problem my son continued to hunt with friends and then he married and started a family of his own and as his sons got old enough he started them hunting and they still hunt today. The only issue you may have now is finding land to hunt. Most of the prime hunting land is privately owned and don't allow hunting or they have leased their land to Hunting Clubs. All is not lost though for you and your son. There are several state run game reserves that you can hunt. You can get a permit at one near your home and they normally has 1000's of acres you can hunt. Just do a little research on line on the Tennessee Wildlife website and you can learn quit a bit. Hope this helps!!
  13. I keep getting emails from the NAGR talking about 2A issues and asking for donations to become a elite member. Does anyone here belong or know anything about them? Any help will be appreciated.
  14. I must agree with David on most of what he has said. Our society has fallen off a cliff and holding on to a small branch from going all the way to the bottom. In all reality I believe until something is done to correct the mental issues all the gun laws in the world won't fix the problem. If a mental person wants to kill people they will find a weapon to use. Everything from a knife to a car or truck. The biggest mass murderers used airplanes on 9/11.
  15. I never open carry either because I think a gunman will make you their first target. As far as a shooter in a school They went there to kill people and 1 SRO officer won't be a deterrent if he shoots the SRO first IMO.
  16. I have had friends that had school age kids and they had an SRO at their school and they liked him and said he was pretty cool but then they were not told that all cops are bad at home either.
  17. I would agree except he would be the first person shot by a shooter and he would not know that the plain clothes that were on the scene and shooting at the shooter would be more effective.
  18. I don't guess anyone liked the plain clothes cops in schools idea huh?
  19. Nuggets sounds like what you may have had. My Mother battered the nuggets with a little Cajun spice added and fried them just like chicken.
  20. I have noticed several people here talking about the SRO officers being in full uniform. Making them more like prison guards in locked down schools. Why does and SRO need to be in uniform. That would make him/her the first target. Why not put them in plain clothes and give them titles. How about a Dean of Boys and if a boy needs to talk to someone because he is in trouble let him talk to the dean. Have a Dean for girls also a female police officer. We had them in school back when I was in school but they were not police officers. How about a custodian or two of them instead of Deans but trained officers. There are many ways to place SRO's in schools without putting them in uniform like prison guards. They could mingle with the kids and fit in. The Custodian was killed in the school shooting and it was said he was loved by the students......just an idea!!!
  21. Yep!! They don't taste lie Chicken but like you said more of a fishy taste. How did the guy cook the meat. My mother would make turtle nuggets as main coarse and then put 3 or 4 sides with it to make a meal. I agree, it's not something I would go out of my way to eat but if it is offered I would probably eat it.
  22. You beat me to it Erik88....lol
  23. That might work on one out of 100 but if you look at the end results if the police don't kill them they take their own lives so their end goal is death anyway.
  24. Great point Omega and I know there are tons of laws out there that they could be using and we don't need any new ones. I think it was mentioned that she purchased her guns from 4 or 5 different gun stores so she would not be drawing any attention to herself. I would imagine that is in her ramblings she wrote that has not been released to the public.
  25. I agree, they should have been more vigilant about why she had a gun in the first place knowing she had mental issues and took more interest in what she was doing.
