Definitely let us know how the brew goes and how it turns out. MidwestSupply is a great vendor too.

I have two 47's and one 74. The 47's are great but I really enjoy the 74. As you mentioned ammo is cheap and there is very little recoil. I run mine with a TRS-25 red dot on a midway QD rail. It allows lower 1/3 co-witness with the irons and keeps zero when taken off and put back on. The only downside to the 74's is the price of mags. I have several Arsenal Plums, but normally use cheap tapco's for the range. I have a waffen werks and it will shoot 2MOA with bulk ammo, really fun guns to shoot. I love my 74. Congrats on the new addition.

I stopped by the WalMart in Seymour today. The guy at the counter said he had the same 8-9 guys lined up every morning to buy any 22 ammo that comes in stock. I have had some success buying online, but it goes pretty fast.

Any other Civil War battlefield junkies here?
DangerDanJD replied to 10-Ring's topic in General Chat
Obviously, I'm joking. I have been to Gettsyburg, Manassas, Vicksburg. Chickamauga is really cool and local for a lot of folks. I would say my favorite site is probably Fort Sumter. -

Well I am disappointed this isn't a thread about modded Battlefield IV on the Xbox or Playstation. Get out of the sun and go play some video games. -
I was primarily thinking of online black friday/cyber monday deals. I generally try to avoid the actual brick and mortar stores that weekend. I will be looking for a SBR piston upper as well as a lower build kit with a pistol buffer until form 4 comes back. I would also love to find a great deal on an Aimpoint pro or maybe an Eotech to go on the SBR.

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess I will be in the begin my search for a SP-01. If anyone of you CZ guys wants to unload one, lemme know!

I am considering purchasing a CZ in 9mm. I am specifically leaning towards a CZ 75 SP-01 or SP-01 tactical and am looking for input from current and former owners as well as anyone with knowledge or experience regarding CZ's. Purpose will be occasional open carry (around the farm, hiking, etc.) and primarily range and plinking use as well as perhaps home defense. I would be replacing a glock 19 which was used for the same purpose and while it has functioned flawlessly, the glock just doesn't do it for me. The glock in turn replaced a HK USP 9 which replaced a Baretta 92. I have a smaller 9mm for CCW and rarely carried the glock so the extra weight and size isn't really an issue. I have never fired a CZ but have picked up and handled an SP-01 and like the feel of it. I am also expecting better accuracy with the CZ over the glock. I prefer the looks of the SP01 over say the 75 B SA and prefer both over glocks. I also shoot a lot of 22 rimfire and the potentially of the CZ Kadet 22 conversion is enticing. Finally, I like having something a little different and a CZ seems to be a good choice. For those with experience, what are the pro's and con's of the CZ's as you see them and what has your experience been with the pistols? Is there anything I am missing or should I stop posting on forums and start trying to find one as soon as possible? Thanks.

I have a RR 2 stage NM in one of my rifles and am somewhat disappointed by it. It is better then the stock trigger, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I wish I had spent the money on a Geissele (I still don't know how to pronounce it).

Don't get excited just year, I'm not aware of any specific deals yet but there is an item or two I'm hoping to find. What deals to you anticipate and what are you hoping to pick up in the sales next month?

I ordered the xbox one with battlefield so I'm probably going to have to purchase the 360 version at full price if I go that route. I will probably just wait.
-
I have it preordered for the Xbox One, which I should receive in late November. COD drives me crazy as well. It's nice to actually get a working squad in battlefield. I havent decided if I'm going to pick up the 360 version.

Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 DEAL!!!
DangerDanJD replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have had good experiences with Vortex glass. I haven't seen anything that beats it's quality for the price. -
I was over there yesterday filling out paperwork for my suppressor. Thy are not doing any future NFA transfers but I ordered back in August. They have rebranded the store, new logo's on the walls, rearranged, etc. All of the staff I saw looked familiar. I did witness an employee offer a guy substantially less then a fair trade in price on a revolver after the customer said he had no idea what it was worth. After the customer left, the employee and another customer laughed about how much they could resell it for and the seller's ignorance. It did not leave a good taste in my mouth so to speak. That said, the employees that assisted me were extremely nice both today and throughout the entire process. I think Coal Creek had the reputation of being very helpful to customers they know or those they know are particularly gun savvy, but they never seem to go out of their way to service individuals they do not know or that appear to be less knowledgeable. Hopefully, with the *new ownership, they will really step up and cater to both the experienced gun owners and the new guys looking to get into the sport. While I didn't like everything I witnessed, I am optimistic. They have a nice facility.

I'm late getting back around to responding, but I did end up going over to Frozen Head and doing the Panther Branch trail. It was nice and I appreciate the suggestion. Looks like the Chimney tops at Frozen Head would be a nice overnighter as well.

I am not sure about enforcement at places like Big South Fork and while there may be a very low chance of running into any trouble, I don't really want to risk it. The Pocket Wilderness near Dayton looks nice but that is a little further then I want to travel for a short hike. I'm leaning towards Frozen Head State Park at this point. It is fairly close to Knoxville and I have never been out there. The Panther Branch trail appears to be about 2 miles so it would make for a nice easy hike. The hike to the Chimney Tops there looks great too, but I will save it for a day when I can make more of a day of it. Thanks for all the suggestions. They were very helpful.

Big South Fork is national so I was under the impression it would be closed as well? As for the rain, the local forecast in Knoxville is only calling for 30% chance of isolated showers. Frozen Head is a State park so I'm guessing it would be unaffected by the shutdown. I will check it out. Any other ideas?

I have a couple of friends I promised I would take on a short hike this weekend. I was planning on about a 4-5 mile roundtrip, maybe Rainbow Falls, Abrams Creek or the Chimney Tops. Unfortunately, thanks to our well run Congress and Federal Government, the parks are closed. Anyone know of a decent trail that is outside of the parks and thus open this weekend close to Knoxville? I really don't want to drive more than an hour or two. The only trail I know of off the top of my head is House mountain and while I haven't done that hike in years, I don't remember it being especially appealing. I also considered the trails that run across Max Patch Bald in North Carolina, but I did that hike last year and am looking for something different. I know it is possible to get to some trails within the park but I do not want to risk any potential legal ramifications by hiking on any trails in the park. Thanks in advance.

Anyone getting the brew pot out this weekend?
-
Yeah, the flanders red is of the same style as the Monks. I really enjoy wheat bears, especially in the summer and early fall, great choice to get started. I just bottled four gallons of cider that I had been neglecting for a couple months. It is my first attempt at a cider so we will see how it goes in a couple weeks.

When I referred to "kits," I meant ingredient kits as opposed to equipment kits. Basically, the ingredient kits include a recipe with all ingredients necessary to brew a specific beer. As far as equipment kits, they are ok, but you can probably do better buying the parts individually. I have only been brewing a couple of years, but I have never heard of anyone using "glazed ceramic primaries." I will have to check those out. I don't find I get any difference between using a food grade plastic bucket or better bottle as opposed to a glass carboy. I have both. I definitely agree that doing a yeast starter is superior to using a dry yeast, but for the beginner, dry yeast works fine. My point is that it is fairly easy to brew your first beer using one of the extract ingredient kits and in my experience they normally turn out pretty good.
-
Not arguing with you. I am just stating how law enforcement has interpreted it. As they like to say on the forums. You might beat the rap but not the ride.
-
As far as starting out, unlike a lot of the guys, I think the kits are actually a good thing. My first brew was a brewers best extract ingredient kit and it turned out great. Very easy and all you really needed was the brew pot and a carboy or an airtight bucket with an airlock. You can get some really good results using the extract kits while learning a lot before moving to using your own or other people's recipes and going all grain. I can point people to a really good homebrewing forums if anyone wants to look into it some more.

I enjoy brewing beer more then wine, quicker results. I really like experimenting with odd/unusual recipes. The Flanders I have in the secondary is a sour. I have a recipe for a mead/wine/ale brew that is really good. I also made a pretty decent chocolate coffee stout and a serrano peppered cream ale that tuned out well. We always do a few IPA's every year too but I don't really have a "go to" recipe that I really like. This time of year is definitely great for brewing. We hook up a bigscreen in the garage and brew on sundays normally. I have an all grain set up but haven't made the move to force carbing/kegging. Hoping to get some new equipment this year.

I personally know someone that was arrested and charged with 39-17-1231 about five years ago. She was pulled over for speeding driving home from dinner. She produced his HCP to the officer and when asked, told the officer that she had a glass of wine at dinner. Being in her 20's and in a college town, the officer gave her field sobriety tests which she passed. The officer then charged her with possession of a handgun while under the influence and took her to jail where he was processed and released. The charges were later dropped but in exchange she agreed to surrender his HCP. The law isn't very clear, but it can be (and has been) construed to mean that consumption of any amount of alcohol while in possession of a firearm to be a violation. I am probably more cautious then most, but I generally leave my firearm at home if I plan on even having a single beer or glass of wine at dinner. As others have said, I certainly do not condone possessing a firearm or driving if anyone is under the influence or impaired.
