Just a heads up, only store in town that had any 308's that I know of was Specialty Arms II. Had 2 308 Bushmaster I think it was, a DPMS 308, and 1 308 FN SCAR. I think the FN SCAR was $2999. I recall the SCAR having "Made in Belgium" I think it was. Not sure if that makes it more desirable or not. it was a sort of desert tan color. Get it while its there! Bet it won't last long! :)

Specialty Arms II had this one. Said they just got it in. I snapped it up quick! I called all over town to every gun store that sponsors this site and then some. All sold out except Specialty Arms II. They still had 3 or 4 .308's left of various brands (think 2 were bushmaster, 1 DPMS, can’t recall the other) and even a 308 FN SCAR when I left last night. I was the last one out the door and my FFL took about 1hr 20 mins because they were so backed up. Needless to say, I kept them there after their closing hours. lol It was crowded up there! I seen folks buying multiple guns at one time. Anyway, seems there are a handful of AR15’s left in local stores, Wal-Mart seemed to be sold out in Murfreesboro, and Specialty Arms II is the only one I know of with any 308’s.

Well, I can tell you if weight is a concern, the nikon scopes weigh more than the Leupold. Everyone who picks up my Colt LE 6920 comments it feels a bit heavy. I believe if you can pass the regular background check to buy the dang gun, you should be able to go get a HCP like getting your DL. Show current ID, fill out form, take picture, let them make the ID, and then immediately receive it on the spot. :up:

All great points! Thanks! :up: So I guess I need to decide if I want to stay cheap and go 18in SASS or more range with a more expensive 20in barrel. What I wanted this rifle to be from the start is maximum accuracy long range capable rifle; not just a 100-300 yard rifle. That kind of pushes me toward the 20in barrels. I've still not made my mind up yet as I need to educate myself on all this better to see if it's really worth going 20in to get what I want out of the rifle.
