SWFA SS 20x42 .10mil. A lot of 50cal guys use them and they hold up and hold zero. Never heard of any of the new .10mil scopes having any tracking issues either. But just in case, I'm going to test mine to make sure.

They just completed the 500 yard range. Rifle range is open again.

Sounds like he's still in the planning stages. But all I can tell you is what he said in front of my group at orientation and safety last Sunday. He mentioned he might put the 500 between 100 and 300 (which was a small space from my angle). Never know, he might decide to put it where he told your group. Calendar here: http://www.strategicedge.us/gun-range/calendar

He says always check this page (scroll down) before you come out to the range. Sometimes parts of it are shut down for things like maintenance, cutting the grass, etc. http://www.strategicedge.us/gun-range

Correct. Reason is, the 500 (from what I understood was his idea at the moment) is supposed to be right between 100 and 300.

They have the rifle range closed right now because they're working on building the 500 yard range now. Sent from my iPhone

.270 all the way!

I want a 338 Lapua next...... :yum:
-
I've seen 338 Lapua for $100-$125 a box of 20 rounds at Outpost.
-
Found some Hornady AMAX locally for about $80 per 10rounds.
-
I've spent around $1,417 on 50 BMG ammo so far. I think it's more but can't find all my receipts.
-
Thanks for the info. I tried to find AMAX, but the only place that had 50 BMG was outpost armory and they had 1 box of Federal and a bunch of PMC. I ended up getting 1 box of Fed and 3 boxes of PMC for like $217.xx I think it was. I bet AMAX would have been dead on.

The owner is a competition shooter and been shooting 1,000 yards for a long time. He was not taking blind unsafe shots at 1,000. He plugged in all the data in a ballistics calculator, dialed in 80 clicks, but did not hit paper. We thought there might be something off with the published ballistics data from the ammo manufacturer The only other possibly would be that my scope wasn't producing accurate .10 mil clicks. That said, I'm also going back to a different range to test the tracking of my scope before I blame the ammo manufacturers ballistics info.

Is this a serious question? Would it be wise to throw 660+ grain bullets down a 1,000 yard range blindly without first checking to make sure your zero'd at 100? Would that be smart and responsible? Even the range owner wanted to make sure where we were at 100 before going to 1,000 because I was using new ammo that I was not dialed in for. In this case at this range, we only have a choice of 100 and 300 to check our zero before moving to 1,000. Without a good zero at closer range, how would we be able to plug in our ballistics data and even get close to the paper at 1,000?

The 100 and 300 yard ranges (crap cell pic).

Oh yeah, here he is shooting my 50 @ 1,000 https://vimeo.com/72163212

Went today and signed up. Let Tony fire the 50 BMG at 100 yards with PMC Bronze 50A. I didn't see the berm before the shot, but the hole he pointed to was big enough to stick your shoe in. He said 100 yards was definitely off limits for the 50 BMG's right now. The berms are just red clay, grass isn't growing on them much yet, so its soft right now. He did mention if Barrett put up the armor plate, he'd allow 50 BMG on the shorter ranges. He already spoke with them and they have $10k in armor plate they bought for another range that later turned then down, so it's just laying around. If I had to guess, I'd say there is a pretty good chance we'll eventually see that armor up and 50 BMG allowed. For the 1,000 yard range, we lacked good ballistic info on the PMC Bronze 50A ammo, but tried 1 shot anyway. We did not get on paper with that shot, so he called it off until we can get good data to key in the ballistics with. I'm probably going back with the Hornady AMAX next time since there is a lot of info on those out there. So today, I shot 0 rounds, owner shot 2. Got my application in and paid. Got my orientation and safety stuff done. Soon as they get me checked out, I'll be a member.

Whoever my uncle spoke with in person said something about the owners sons cabin is back there, but it is not inline with the 1,000 yard range.

Well, hold your horses 50 BMG owners.... I talked to Tony on the phone a bit ago and he is not sure he's going to allow 50 BMG rifles at all. He is worried about damage to the backstops and potential stray from someone missing a target tearing up his target stands. Backstops getting pounded would require him to run heavy equipment and rebuild them often, so that will cost him more money. He's also afraid someone might take a 50 on the shorter ranges and damage the steel targets as they're not heavy enough to stop a 50 BMG. So that said, before he allows the 50 BMG, he's going to test fire my 50 BMG and gauge how bad it tears up the berm at 1,000 yards. So here are the possible outcomes discussed so far: If it doesn't damage the berm to the point of needing more frequent and extensive repair than normal, the 50 BMG will be OK. If there is light/acceptable damage, and if he decides to allow the 50 BMG, he might require you to repair the damage yourself or pay higher range fees since he will have to do extra repair work to keep it maintained. I'm pretty sure if he allows them, it would only be on the 1,000 yard range as the bullet would have a bit less energy at that distance. Keep in mind, they are still trying to figure out the rules for the 50, so all of what he told me today could change by tomorrow. Edit: I will add this. If I understood him correctly, he told Barrett and his guys if he decides to allow 50 BMG's, if they damage anything, they have repair it or pay to have it repaired.

I bought a Benelli M3 Super 90 8 shot pump with ghost rings sights back in the late 90's. That was my favorite shotgun, ever. I wish I had kept it now. I'll probably buy another soon as I check some other guns off my list. So my advice to you is, buy now!
