I have used many powders and primers in my Dillon 550 over the years. For the 9mm and 45acp I like WW231, Bullseye, AA #5, Unique plus others. I think WW231 has been the most versatile for me over the years for the 45, 9mm and especially the 38spl. For primers I always use WW large and small pistol for these loads. CCI is my second choice but I would not shun any name brand primer if I got a deal on them. I have loaded a lot of 223 and 308 on my Dillon and I have found the medium burning ball powders work well. I like WW 748 for both but you can also use WW 760 on the 308. I love Hodgon H335, also like the AA2520 with heavy bullets in 223. I have used a lot of other powders in 308 but not in a Dillon so I cannot speak as to how well they will flow through a Dillon powder measure. For rifle primers in semi's I would use CCI as they are harder and can take the slamming better, but I have used WW primers also successfully for years so I wouldn't pass on them if I could get a deal. One other thing, I never use magnum pistol primers. I did a lot of testing with magnum pistol primers and I could never get the consistency and accuracy that I got with standard primers. I am sure they have a use somewhere just not on my bench.

I have been carrying a firearm for years. I have been thru nearly everything you listed plus a bunch of others. A couple of points that I hope will help you. 1. Get something that that you can and will keep with you. No matter how good a weapon is it is no good left at home. 2. Simplicity is a great advantage. Several things I really like about Glocks is reliability, low cost factory mags, interchangeability of holsters and accessories and the revolver like action (no external safety). I would suggest a G26 if you decide on a Glock and it fits your hands. You can buy G19 mags and use them with magazine fillers or you can add the Pearce or Schearer grip extensions. 3. Semi autos are cool, have a higher capacity, are flatter in most cases, but they have one draw back, they have only one chamber and cannot be fired more than once from an enclosed position, like a pocket. I have found the lightest, simplest most fool proof gun for me is not a semiauto but a revolver, a SW 642 to be exact. I carry my G19 often, sometimes I carry my SW 4563 TSW but I always have my 642 handy in case I need something to stick in my pocket and go.

Do you still have the box, paperwork, accessories, etc? this helps with the price. What dash series is that? Look inside the yoke on the frame.

Possible problem with a gunn I sold @ show
glockster157 replied to Volzfan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
As stated before that form doesn't really carry any weight as it is not a crime to lie on it and it is not required by law. One thing that I have wondered about is how would the ATF track a gun that has been swapped thru several individuals and then traded thru a dealer. Unless they are keeping those tics/nics check records (which is supposed to be illegal) and all the individuals that swapped the gun in question new each other (and fessed up) or kept records, how could you track it? I do the license/HCP thing nowadays. I don't keep there info but I want to make sure I could pass a lie detector if I had to. I want to see them with my own eyes. -
I find deals quite often but you have to shop. I bought a nice Browning Abolt hunter right after hunting season a couple years back for $289. That was on Charlotte Pike. Last year I found a decent Glock 21 on Nolensville road for $399. Granted, it doesn't happen every day but I also negotiate. I found a SW 5" 27 for $350 but it was in so-so shape. Charlotte again. A lot of the private shops put everything on Gunbroker so they don't have to sell locally, especially the really nice stuff. Deals are where you find them so if you don't look it will make it easier on me.

9mm AMMO comparison...guess who wins??
glockster157 replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have been reloading for many years. To really see the cost savings in handgun ammo you either have to find a great buy on bullets or cast them yourself. I found casting .357 and .429 bullets from WW's could cut my cost considerably since I got the lead for free. Then all you have to do is shoot enough to offset the cost of molds and pots, etc. Lee makes some good economical products. And yes, matching quality factory ammo for accuracy is a good goal for a reloader. I have done it with my bullets many times, most commonly with the real Keith style bullets in 44 and 357. As to rifles, if you want to shoot blasters like AK's and AR shorties and such, bulk ammo like wolf may be fine, but I have never had a good bolt gun or Ruger #1 that I could not beat factory ammo easily by handloading. There are cost savings also if you want to use premium bullets but the biggest factor is repeatability. I can make the same loads next week, next month, next year that shoots in my guns today. The factory may get a good buy on powder or primers or bullets and change the load from week to week. One other point, you can never carry or use reloaded ammo, especially home rolled ammo, for self defense. Most over zealous DA's would have a field day in front of a firearms ignorant jury. -
I have been reloading for 30 years and I would not dare buy reloads from an individual. In my experience, many reloaders are careless, sadly some are even unethical. In my younger (and dumber) days, I have been sold some bad components by unethical individuals, of course this taught me to know what I was looking at and to only deal with people I knew I could trust. There are companies that sell reloads like Alabama Ammo and in those cases I would recommend buying a small lot and try them first. If it works well in your gun then buy in quantity. Anybody that manufactures to resell to the public has to have a license and be insured which many who sell at the gunshows and flea markets are not. They also have not had there ammo tested for pressure so everytime you pull the trigger you are taking a chance. I reload for everything I own. I work the loads up for each weapon, record it and then duplicate it. No amount of money would get me to allow you to shoot my ammo in your gun, except the general pistol ammo that I have shot thru many weapons, such as a general load in a 38 spl. I have shot my loads thru so many of my own 38's I know they are mild and safe but even then, I would have to know you, inspect the weapon first and I would not sell them.

forgive me, for i have sinned. but i like it!
glockster157 replied to nightrunner's topic in Handguns
Yes the 357 sig can duplicate 357 mag velocities, 1450fps w/125 grain bullet, but it has yet to prove that it is the stopper that the 357mag is. As a matter of interest, some of the early reports were so-so. A lot of that may be because the 357 sig uses 9mm bullets not 357 mag bullets. They are usually constructed a little lighter. I use to sell Cor-Bon 40sw 135 grain loads rated for 1425fps. That was always my first choice in 40sw. Just 25fps under 357 sig yet 10 grains heavier and .045" larger. Just a thought. -

Why don't you just pick up a Glock 357sig barrel. It drops tight in, uses the same mags, give you dual caliber capability and then you wouldn't need to get a g33 as then you would have one. I have seen the barrels at gunshows for between $90 and $125 dollars. -
I carry a SW 4563TSW w/NS. Same size and weight as a LW Commander but it is a true DA with re-strike capabilty. I like the thin profile and the 45acp caliber. Some ask me why I carry a 45 and I tell them "because nobody makes a carryable 46". Admittedly, when it is hot I carry a SW 642 with a Beretta 21A in the center console in case I need a "get off me gun".

Let us know how it shoots. I had a chance to pick up a SS version from a friend and then decided to pass. He sold it for about that price. I baulked on the Taurus brand as I am used to Glocks. Would be curious to see how it holds up.

Where did you get yours from? I have been thinking of getting one for my 27

Vanguards are Howa actions if I'm not mistaken. They typically have a pretty good finish, I like the wood ones a lot better than the synthetic. A friend of mine sold a 338 Weatherby mag at the last Goodman show. Beautiful wood on that one. The action is the typical 2 lug mauser type where the Weatherby actions are either 6 lug or 9 lug.

I bought the Chip McCormick and I think now it was a mistake. The trigger pull is good but not great and I have had trouble fitting it in my receiver.

I picked up a bottle of this to try and I assumed it was similiar to Break free. But after smelling it, it does not smell like Break free nor does it smell like any other bore cleaner, no ammonia, that I have. Just curious as to the make up and/or use of this military bore cleaner since I can get it cheap. BTW, I use Ed's Red a lot as well as Shooters Choice.

SW 59 and 39 series guns are some of the most under rated autos out there. I have owned several and if it were not for the weight of the SS guns they would always be one of my top choices. I believe that the 59 series makes a great house gun because of the weight. I keep a 4563 Tactical SW in 45acp for carry now, I like it a lot better than the Commander size SA's I was carrying. One of these days I am going to run across a deal on a really nice 3913. Going to jump on that one when I do. I findem now but there not cheap.

Many I regret like all those older N frame SW's but the ones that make me cry, Sako L-461 Heavy Barrel in 223 w/Leopold 6.5-20 VIII Ruger Super Blackhawk 3 Screw with a 4 digit serial number Colt Ar15 Sporter bought new in 1981 Remington 40X w/Unertl 12X scope Bunches of Ruger Number 1's Bunches of Leupold scopes

I have not had time to shoot it much more. I think I have a total of around 400-500 rounds thru it and it is fine. The Yildiz section at on Shotgunworld.com have reports of numbers in the tens of thousands with a few firing pins being the only problem. I would still like to get a 12 ga in a Yildiz but I have not had the time to pursue it.

What rifle does he have? Marlin makes a really good lever gun in a couple of barrel lengths. Ruger makes a good single shot, there are still trap door Springfield's out there, etc. I love the caliber, but I like to shoot the lighter loads. There are basically three power levels to the 45-70. The old 1886 trap doors have to shoot light loads like 15 to 18 thousand psi, the lever guns shoot medium loads up to 28K and the falling blocks like the Ruger # 1 can take the heavy loads close to 458 Win mag performance. I don't like the recoil of those. Find out what he has and post back, I would like to hear what he has.

I love number 1's and have owned several. I am just now getting back into them. The prices lately have gone up considerably. Lets see; 1. They don't have an action so a 26" rifle is rifle is about the same length as a 22" bolt gun giving 4 more inches of barrel for better velocity or, in the case of the 1A, an even shorter rifle. 2. Easy to clean and inspect the barrel. 3. Light and very strong. 4. Simplicity of operation. Some complain of accuracy issues with 2 piece stocks but if you hold it the same way every time, it usually shoots the same every time. Anybody got some number 1's they want to trade? I am always looking but I like lighter calibers. Would consider a 30-06 but at a reasonable price range.

I reload and cast bullets so I can shoot cheap regardless of the caliber. I may pick up a 45GAP down the road if I can find one really cheap. All you have to do them is buy 500 pcs of brass. Downsides, You have to double check to make sure that none of your gazillions of 45ACP cases get mixed in with your GAP or visa versa, you have to adjust your crimp and seat dies every time you switch calibers or buy a completely separate 45 setup for your Dillon/Lee/whatever, and 357 Sig is bottle necked, so you have to lube cases(no carbide dies for that caliber)....on second thought, 45ACP, 9MM, 357/38, 44mag/44sp covers all my needs, I think I'll pass.

One other thong I would suggest is seek better sourcing. I know another dealer that bought a large lot of guns confiscated by twra. He was able to turn them on gunbroker fairly quickly as that market is nation wide. You could do something on a smaller scale if you advertised buying guns, research them out on the auction sights and only buy them when you know you have room to profit. That is a little bit of a gunshow/pawnshop mentality but it has proven to work for many.

One other thing, I go to the shows a lot and I know a lot of the guys at the tables. I see a lot of $600+ dollar guns sitting on the table and usually get traded but I see a lot of $200-300 guns flying off the tables. They are the lower end name brand guns as a general rule, used ,taken in trade or bought cheap, but they sell.
