UPDATE Got a call this afternoon from a nephew I have not talked to in a couple of years. He went by Guns & Leather in Greenbrier this afternoon looking for a Ruger Blackhawk in 357. Said he found one in the used case marked $339. He said he stood there waiting to get waited on for half an hour and finally gave up. He would have bought the gun (so he tells me)but he finally got frustrated and tired of waiting. Seems like this is a good shop but maybe understaffed or under trained in customer service. At least it is not just me this happens to.

I picked up a Ruger #1B in 7MM Remington Magnum and I have never loaded for this caliber before. I see no need to re-invent the wheel so I thought I would ask for your loads. Seem to be out of IMR 4831 right now but I have lots of IMR4350, Accurate 4350, H414/WW760. 115, 120 and 140 grain bullets.

True story, Back in 1999 I was still in the gun business. A guy I knew from church traded me a Colt Commander at our shop. I ran the number thru TICs no problem. I sell the gun and it goes thru TICS again, no problem. I get it traded back to me, this time I don't run it as I have already ran it twice. I sell the gun again, run thru TICS, no problem. The guy gets checked in a traffic stop 3 months later and the Montgomery County deputy runs the gun...STOLEN!!!!. I had to give the guy back his money. I call the reporting department which is Montgomery county and talk to a detective to find out why it took 9 months or so for this gun to show up stolen. He tells me that they enter the SN's into the NICS stolen database when they get time and sometimes it is a while before they get around to it. Yeah a while...like 8 to 9 months. Anyways, I have no recourse, I lose my money and his advice to me was to stiff the guy they pulled over since he was a blank, blankety blank anyways. So, my point is that the stolen report may not have made it into the system if the report was filed in some podunk little county or where the officers give it a real low priority.

The Bible says the future home of these "one worlders" is Babylon Iraq so my vote is to send them there and let them build it. Lets see how well they do in a Muslim country without US funding. We could even give them the bull dozers after we are done with them.

Take it apart and mail it in 2 different pieces. As long as it doesn't look like a gun and they think it is just parts, they may be dumb enough to ship it without the hassle. Or they could just give you twice as much grief.

Its a "get off me" gun

After reading about the 260 in one of the latest gun rags I would have to back up and recommend a 243. I did not see that big of advantage for the 260 for this neck of the woods but I saw several disadvantages. The number one being ammo cost and availability. 243 is everywhere and can be had in many factory configurations. The other thing that caught my eye was you wanted a matte finish and plain walnut stock. That just screams Savage package gun which should be one of the most accurate but lowest priced guns out there and now comes with the excellent Accutrigger. One other gun that I have seen going really cheap at the shows are the newer plain model 70 Winchesters in synthetic.

My email is glockshooter@comcast.net I am a little dyslexic tonight. I thought your 61 auto was a 63 revolver. Still a good find but not as good as a 63. I have thought about joining Mothers Against Dyslexia.....DAM for short.

I have now! posted a thread over there last night and just got to read the replies. Did not know that about SWC's. Guess I'll load the rest of those LTC's I have. You don't see swc's in 9mm much but I do believe they are available. No matter, at least I can use lead though I am going to need some different molds when I crank the casting back up. As to the thumb safety, I am going to have to ignore it or give up Glocks....the muscle memory is just not there, that is one of the reasons I stopped mixing Glocks and 1911's.

Picked up a LNIB XD45 last weekend so I guess that makes me XGlocksterD. It has a lot of impressive features, of course the grip safety, this one has the ambi thumb safety, it has the loaded chamber indicator, the cocking indicator, etc. It is large, only holster I have that I can get it in is a Galco OWB I have for a SIG. Little disappointed in that as I have a lot of holsters. I have not had time to shoot it for groups but I did shoot it some off hand for groups when I function fired it. Good news, it grouped well at 20 yards off hand. Bad news, this thing would'nt feed a SWC if it's life depended on it...and mine might! It fed the JHP, LTC and hardball perfectly but the plated SWC's would almost turn backwards on the feed ramp. Darndest thing I have ever seen. I may try some heavier, longer types as these were the really short stubby Berry's 185 grainers. Other than that I like it...it will never replace my smaller Glocks but it looks like it is a better choice as a shooter/house gun than a G21 as it has a lot more safety features, can shoot lead and definitely appears to be more accurate. The off hand groups were much better than I normally do with a gun of this type as I am a revolver shooter. I look forward to doing some serious shooting/testing as this is my first XD.

I will work on getting a group together as soon as I can free up some time. I am thinking now that we should get together by area. I live in NW Davidson county(Nashville). Some of you guys in east TN could get together a lot easier than trying to get here. Same for southern middle TN, west TN, etc. I know that musicman, tripledigitride, mycam82 all live in my range. I think groups of 4-5 would be more manageable also and we should be able to find 1 experienced person in each area. What do ya'll think?

Remington 700 in 6mm or 260 Rem would be good, especially if you reload. More punch than a 223 with the option to use light bullets for varmints and heavier bullets for hunting. I have owned several 700's in 6mm and I like it better than the 243 as I reload and it has slightly more case capacity and a longer neck. The 260 I have never owned but have read nothing but good about it. As to rifles, I have never found a more accurate rifle "out of the box" than a 700 Remington IMHO.

Actually a great site though I have not done the math with shipping. However, I think this metal is more usable http://www.rotometals.com/product-p/linotypealloy.htm If we were to buy in bulk and get free shipping as they say then we could cut the cost to less than 6 (5.16 to be more exact)cents a bullet average. 2.89 per pound, mixed 50/50 with WW equal 14000 grains per pound of Lino/WW. Average with a 250 grain bullet(44/45)then that is 56 bullets per pound. For plinking or for those that wish, straight WW alloy can be shot up to 1000fps. If you wish to go to the trouble to heat treat then you can push them to 1400. For 357/38/9mm average bullet weight is more like 150 so the alloy cut with WW could make as many as 93 bullets per pound cutting the cost to 3.1 cents. This is what I use to love to do....scrounge and beat the system. I am sure I can figure a way around the 2.89 a pound linotype metal but I wanted to throw he numbers out for those that have never cast.

I cannot compare it to Power Pistol, Clays and some of the newer powders as I have never used them but compared to Unique it is a lot cleaner. I love Unique for performance but it is a filthy powder.
-
Winchester 231, Unique, Bullseye, to name a few of my favorites. There are many medium to fast burning powders suitable to these rounds but after much load development and bench testing I kept coming back to 231 so that is my primary powder now. Plus it works through my Dillon powder measure a little better than the flake powders.

I have about 3 bullet sizer lubricators though they are old. I think the new Lee type is a lot faster. As to lube, Lee Liquid Alox is the fastest and works well but is smelly IMO. Lots of stick lubes for the sizing machines. I have Lyman molds in 357 429 452 . Lyman 358429 in a double cavity, 429421 in a double and a 4 cavity, 45 colt bullet in a double. I have really wanted to try the Lee 6 cavity molds in the tumble lube design in 9mm and 45 acp. To give you an idea, I have cast 2000 44 mag and 357 mag bullets in one evening with 2 people working 2 pots and and 3 molds. Sized as I needed so that is not something that has to be done right then.

Lets plan a get together soon. I am committed this Saturday and the next so it will have to be an afternoon or evening meeting for me or a couple weeks out. Does anyone in the Nashville are have a large shop or garage with benches where we can set up a couple of pots and throw bullets?
-
i have a friend that wants to get into casting and his father owns a garage. I will check with him to see how much he has collected. I have a couple buckets of wheel weights. For most of us who shoot 45/38 or so, heat treated WW's should work fine. How many of you guys have tire shops near you as the price of lead has probably tanked?

This idea may be genius, then again, it may stink. But I used to cast a lot of pistol bullets but time has just prevented me from doing a lot the last couple of years. And considering that the major cost of shooting is the bullet, I have thought about forming a bullet casting group. Some of us older guys with experience and equipment, getting with younger guys who need to learn (and have more time and energy) do some teaching and production at the same time. A friend and I used to get together on a Saturday with a couple of pots, a bunch of molds and we could throw several thousand bullets in a day easy. If we had more pots, more molds and every body involved would share the bullets, we could cast quite a few in a day. Located in Nashville. Just a thought

NO, I am way to fat and lazy to jog/exercise. ...I do real estate and real estate developing. I usually have on slacks, polo shirt and casual dress shoes and I am very clean cut...and in actuality, I am a little pudgy but not fat. So no, I don't stink, I am not sweating, I am dressed nice, and by running I meant I am running around in my car going from place to place. But that is a weird image of some fat guy jogging by the gun shop looking for a 308 heavy barrel. Funny, I still don't know if any of them have one but I don't plan on stopping by again...at least for a while.
