  1. I had a CZ PO1 compact w/decocker in 9mm. Great gun, I traded it in a moment of weakness as I was carrying a Glock 19 at the time and did not see the need for 2 similar guns. Mistake. I do think if I were buying new and weight were not a major issue I would rather have the steel from gun, especially in 40. The 9mm was fairly snappy in the LW alloy frame of the PO1. Plus, I don't need a decocker, I have let my hammer down a bazillion times and I am very confident I can do it safely, but what a decocking model cannot do is go on safe in a SA mode. So steel or alloy no decocker for me but your wife may need one if you pass the gun to her, I would also stay 9mm if you are going to pass the gun to a female.
  2. them I would not use pulls. At least try a 100 before you buy a K.
  3. Some good data on line. Try http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/index.aspx http://www.accuratepowder.com/ there is lots more on the web.
  4. What are you shooting them in? What calibers are you reloading and what purpose are you using them for?
  5. If it did not come with it I would highly recommend a Lee hand priming tool.I am not sure what you are looking at on the 5th item down???, the lock stud and trimmer maybe. As to tumblers, look at Midway or Midsouth Shooters supply and look for a vibratory cleaner, quick and easier than tumblers and usually larger and less expensive.
  6. One other worth looking at is the Yildiz O/U guns at Academy. I bought a 20 ga there for $399, much nicer finish than some of the other imports, full set of chokes, they also carry Briley chokes and it comes with a 3 year warranty from Briley.
  7. Not a good idea in many applications. I have found the cups on rifle primers are thicker and harder, I have to assume they are also hotter to ignite the much slower burning powders used in rifles. I tried it one time and many of my revolvers had misfires....I never tried that again.
  8. Has anybody posted a "How to make Bio Diesel" thread. I just pick up a Dodge with the Cummings and at least need to know how to in case the "manure hits the rotary oscillator".
  9. For those of you that listen to Michael Delgiorno on WTN 99.7 FM, Maury Davis pastor of Cornerstone Church Nashille is going to do an interview tomorrow between 9am and 10. From what he said tonight he is going to be asked a lot about Islam and the current political administration. Trust me, it will be entertaining as pastor Davis does not pull punches and I know how he feels about these 2 subjects. Just an fyi.
  10. You can park in the theater parking in Opry Mills right next to the hotel and just walk over, it is not that far. Also, if you are not interested in secular pursuits, , then let me also invite you to Cornerstone Church at exit 92 I65N. It is not a typical church, it is an awesome experience, 5pm Saturday evening or 10am on Sunday, Y'all come. We are having card board testimonies this weekend.
  11. Go by Centennial Park and see the Parthenon, it is closed on Mondays though, as to restaurants, I love Cheddars in Hendersonville but that is a chain, if you like pizza the Sir Pizza on Charlotte near White Bridge road still uses the stone ovens, man I love their peperoni pizza, don't like their sausage though, it is ground like hamburger. It has been there forever.
  12. I cannot begin to tell you how many Federal small and large rifle primers I have loaded with two different Lee hand primers. I wouldn't worry about it, but...always wear safety glasses when working with primers, they are the real volatile item in the reloading process.
  13. I have found AA #2 closer to Bullseye and AA #5 closer to Unique and W231, all good powders though. Y'all all know I am a big fan of W231 for a all around mid range powder. For magnum loads I agree with Elmer Keith and use good ole 2400. I know H110/296 gives more blast, kick and more velocity but the reality is it can never touch 2400 for consistency from shot to shot in the 357/41/44 mags.
  14. If you were in Nashville you could check Bellshire Hardware, Phillip had a bunch but they were $30K, or the reloaders Bench in MT Juliet usually has them. I got my last batch at Mid South Shooters Supply in Clarksville but it looks like they are out now also.

    Ruger Mini14

I guess thats why I miss so much, I wear ear plugs!
  16. Bellshire Hardware, dickerson road, ask for Phillip. He charges $20 + the $10 TICS fee. Can't beat that.
  17. Your instructor was right, no one has ever been shot by a unloaded gun, just guns they thought were unloaded but were to distracted, ignorant or lazy to check. As to his finger being on the trigger, you have to pull the trigger on a Glock or XD to remove the slide, so he removed the mag and didn't clear the chamber is my guess.
  18. I had one friend kill his refrigerator, I had another wound his metal desk. Of course, both of these were when they were letting their hammers down on loaded 1911's and they were both in their mid 20's. You might have to give second thoughts to Browning & SW on the magazine disconnect safeties....probably have saved a few lives over the years. I have actually started liking them in my old age.
  19. Let me think about that for a moment....NO! NO! NO!, I don't like magnum pistol primers in most magnum pistol loads. With a medium/fast powder like 231 it could raise pressures quickly. I would exchange them if I could.
  20. I have grown fond of the SW DA/SA guns of late. I have a 4563TSW that is much like a LW Commander and they make a Officer size, I think it is the 4513 in alloy and 4516 in SS, I could be wrong though. I need to check gunbroker for pics. Like my 4563 a lot even though I cannot carry it cocked and locked.

    9mm 1911's???

One Achilles heel of the 9mm 1911's has been magazines. They are usually finicky and definitely more expensive. The solution I used years ago was the Browning Hipower....same great designer, very similar design, plentiful mags, more capacity, design from the beginning as a 9mm... Please don't jump all me for making a non-1911 suggestion in 1911 thread, it is just a suggestion. I love 1911's and every time I get the urge to buy one in 9mm, I make these same arguments to myself.
  22. Enough with the Poo Jokes ....I get it. Funny guys. Anyways, I did shoot it it this morning but I only had time to do one mag of 8 rounds so am afraid there is a lot of Poo left. It shot to point of aim and has a crisp 6.5 lb trigger. I gotta say it feels a lot more solid in my hand than my 3913 and the mags are definitely better constructed. 3913 mags are kinda flimsy. Still have not decided to shoot it heavily yet as it sure is purty the way it is but I AM going to shoot it.
  23. It is my personal opinion and strong belief that the 38 snubbies with the completely covered hammer are the perfect carry gun for most women and many men. My personal choice is the 642 SW but the 442 or the equivalent scandium or Taurus model should work just as well. For more power a 640 SW in 357 is available. Why the 642. It is light weight, it can shoot +P's but most importantly, it is pretty much jam proof and idiot proof, that is why I carry one a lot. As to carry as a man, I can put it in a pocket and I have the tactical advantage if not having to bring it out to fire as the covered hammer will let it function from inside clothing. The ladies can put it in a purse and actually keep the purse strap around their necks, their hand in the purse and on the gun, if attacked they can just stick the gun into the attackers body thru the purse and start pulling the trigger without having to draw the weapon. Yes, they will let it go to the bottom of their purse but since it is a closed action nothing will get inside to jam the gun, hence a great ladies purse gun.

    SW 439

Picked up a LNIB SW 439 this weekend. Beautiful pistol...now the struggle is do I keep it pristine or do I shoot the poo out of it??? It is a tough choice. I got it in the box with the extra mag and sight tool, all the papers. It is missing the cleaning tools. The gun was shot but you cannot tell by just looking. I may just try a few rounds for group size and then try to find a more used one to shoot. My growing single stack 9MM collection.
  25. For the most part you just have to scrounge, put the word out among friends and family, and just ask alot. I have been given buckets of WW's, a friend at church once gave me a 100 lbs of Linotype in 2 big bars, another gave me a bunch of bar solder for doing gutters. I still have a bunch and I am fixing to crank it back up as the price of bullets is getting real high.
