Then there's the whole grip safety thing...but that wasn't my point, anyway. What I should've typed: "A Glock with a chambered round is still only partially cocked, A 1911 with a chambered round is fully cocked (so is a Springfield xD, but that's another story). There's no way I'd carry fully cocked without a manual safety, firing pin safety or not. My post wasn't a slam on xD's.

Glocks with a chambered round are still only partially cocked. A 1911 with a chambered round is fully cocked, as is the Springfield xD. There's no way I'd carry fully cocked without a manual safety, firing pin safety or not. YMMV.

Night stand guns caliber and capacity
Spurholder replied to Duck's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
First thing I grab is the LE6920. Optic + mounted 500 lumen light + a full mag of 5.56 works for me. -
Winchester Ranger SXT's for me, in the 127-grain +P+ variety.
-
As Rusty stated, the G19's a pussycat anyway, even with +P+ loads. Heck, my 90 pound, 13 year old niece has no issues shooting my Gen3 with 127-grain Ranger SXT's. Unless you're getting a heck of a deal on it, why bother?

On body carry > off body carry, regardless of the situation. For me, AIWB works well - even when seated - with my Glock 19.

OP, if you're looking for a home defense shotgun, try this: Remington 870 Police - 12 gauge Youth Stock if needed (1" shorter stock) For a load, try Federal's Tactical line of low-recoil 9-pellet buckshot, like these: http://www.policehq.com/Products/FC-132LE Or, the heck with all of this and just pick up a Colt LE6920 and call it a day.
-
For me, the 1/7 does just about everything pretty well, at least in my experience of rifles with 14.5, 16 and 20 inch barrels. I practice with 55 and 62 grain loads and use 77's in my go-to magazines. I've been very satisfied.
-
Not trying to be contrary, but I'm interested to hear about the issues.

OP, it might be worth your while just to buy over build...especially since BCM has been on the market: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=16-LW-MID or with a hammer-forged barrel for a little more: http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=16-BFH-LW-MID Add a USGI bolt carrier group, some irons or an optic and some handguards, and Bob's your uncle. The whole piston versus DI argument is silly, in my very humble opinion, unless you're doing one of the following: 1. Full auto 2. Short barreled rifle 3. Running a suppressor Drop that upper on a lower that's got a H or H2 buffer, and you're good to go. HTH.

Good choice! Congrats, and I look forward to seeing your first range report! And when you want to zero it, check out this read: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=107572&highlight=Zen+50+meter And here's a 25m target that'll give you a 100m zero (and other distances to based on personal preference): http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=96955

For the money and the usage described, you won't find a better deal than this: http://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/electronic-sights/red-dot-sights/patrol-rifle-optic-pro--prod54099.aspx

Post up your thoughts after you try it out.

Thanks, OP.

Do you ever see other people carrying?
Spurholder replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Doubt it. Like I said, it appeared that the guy was in great discomfort from trying to use a dress belt as a gun belt. You could even see a couple of stretched out extra holes that clearly showed the belt was not up to the task. There is a difference. -

I've only made one guy recently. I see plenty of people doing the OC thing, however. I sometimes have to stifle my strong desire to counsel them about their choice of gear since it's right there in view...especially the guy whose cheap dress belt was cinched so tight that I thought he was going to pass out. :) -

Thanks for posting this update. Appreciate it. -
Saw one - dead and in the middle of the road, of course - right smack in the middle of Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna. Right in front of the Town Center.

^ Yep. Case in point - my brother-in-law. Great guy, but doesn't get it when it comes to carrying. Owns a G27, says it's too big to properly conceal. Bought a .380 and a wallet holster, and carries it in his back pocket on his weak side because, well, he's used to carrying his wallet on his right side. I show him holsters, gun belts, mag carriers, etc. I demonstrate to him that I have no difficulties carrying either my G17 or my G19 concealed - we're the same height, weight and build. No impact. Oh, well. He carries what's comfortable. I carry what's comforting (yeah, stole that line from Pat Rogers).

Here's another one. Broke during shipping. http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=139658&page=4

This is crazy. I bought my first pistol in East Town Mall, back in '89. There was a neat little outdoors store (The Outdoorsman??) that was on the second level, roughly in the middle of the mall. And this was back in the "have to wait two weeks to pick up" days! How times have changed.

Both good choices. You really can't go wrong with either.
