I used to think this way ... till I starteed working in a gun store. The GOAL is to have a $50 to $100 margin in a used gun. There is very little margin on guns new or used. If someone is negotiating that much then they are paying you to take the gun. CDNN is a distributor that advertises their prices to everyone. They are selling at dealer cost. No local stores can not compete with that. Buds margin is $10-$20 on a gun and they work off of a volume basis. They are the Walm-Mart of gun stores. Very few smaller stores can compete with them. That being said, we have found we can get fairly close once everything is factored. The main difference is tax. They really need to start charging tax on online purcheses and then competiton will be much more in line. How's that for stirring the pot!

Will was and is well known as the go to guy for making accurate AK conversions and builds. That was always his thing. Still is. He is to the Saiga rifle what Tony Tumore (Tromix) is to the Saiga 12. I'm guessing the show is trying to be more "exciting" by making all these crazy builds. Most of them serve no purpose, but I got to admit if I had the resources and tools to build anything I could think of you better believe I'd be making some crazy stuff. Why? Becasuse I can. Will has always built oddball stuff, simply becasue he can. As far as Stephanie being fake, if the numerous times I've talked to her on the phone about gun buisness is any indication of reality, what you see on the show is all her.

My understanding is exactly this. The THP uses .357 SIG for the extra range and door/glass penetration that the .40 and .45 lack. I also understand the same reason being why MNPD and many other PDs use the .40 S&W. Less chance of over penetration.

100% agree. Pauls is an excellent voice of truth and reason on many points. Some people are presidents some are advisers. Presidents aren't always the best, but the good ones surround themselves with the right people to keep them straight. Paul would be an excellent inner circle guy.

Bluebook has it from $425-$525 (90%-98% condition). Gunbroker has two 99's with bidding from $375-$400. I paid $425 for a used one a couple years agao. Wish I still had that gun.

Jeff, you have to put it on the .458!

Yep, and if Ron Paul had been in charge all of Europe would be under Communism right now and then where would we be? I just don't see that being the better plan. I don't care what the theory is, smarter is not taking an academic principle (non-interventionism), simplifying it, and then deifying it. We have seen how that philosophy on the opposite side is working for socialism (Russia,Europe) and worked for Nazism (Germany) and Facism (Italy). Keep in mind all those started innocently as reactions to economic hardship. Of course we are need far less involvement worldwide, but that is not the cureall. Over reacting is as bad as not reacting. The hardest thing to do is to find the balance between idealism and reality. We need people like Paul to give us an idealism balance against Obama, but he is not balanced enough to get us from point A to B. You can't make major jumps from one ideology to another without having it swing terribly out of balance. This is what made Reagan so good. He was able to "gently" walk the country back to principled, anchored reality.

Yep. Anything violence related is a BIG NO go for gun purchases. The nature of the charge is irrelevant. If you want to pass a TICS, you will need to have the violence charge expunged and the paper work pushed all the way through the Federal system. A lot of folks get expungements that only clear on the state level and still show on the federal side because their lawyers didn't follow through on the federal side.

Sparc Red Dot or Troy Fixed Battlesights on 9mm AR?
Smith replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Long Guns
VInce, I really like the SPARC. Can't say enough about it. -
Until recently, the Ultimak was the only way to go. It had 3 problems however: heat build-up limited optic choices, to much weight out front, and it did nothing for the iron sight radius. I have been using the TWS gen II rail and it is awesome. An actual rifle length peep sight radius, weight is centered, you can use any optic you want, repeatable zero, normal check weld, and you can still get to the internals like before. I had the Vortex SPARC on mine. It cost more than the TRS 25, but (IMO) is a lot more optic. I highly recommend this rail. I've used all the others (BHP-01, Kobra, POSP, .....)nd this is the one. This is it minus the rear peep sight.
-
Technically you can't but by headspacing essentially you can. By the nature of the question, I thought I was simplifying the answer. I doubt it is that however, and probably ammo, mag, or spring related.

Decided to see what all the hype was about

Keep in mind D&T Arms is a stocking dealer. -
Firing pins good. Shoot some more. If you have any more problems get a new hammer spring.
-
It can be done, but you might as well shoot with your eyes closed. It will move all over the place no matter how tight your cover is to begin with. The ONLY dust cover type rail to use is the TWS rail. It is awesome, solid, repeatable zero, and has the lowest rail you can get. Add to it the peep sight and you now have a usable rifle sighting radius, instead of the pistol radius of the standard AK. Texas Weapon Systems AK47 solutions

I've had two and they ran just fine. They are smaller and lighter than anything out there with the exception of the Diamondback. However, the Diamondback is still very new and working out growing pains. That being said, they both have excellent customer support. Even if I had a problamatic one I would be concerned due to both companies backing. Just remeber to keep a locked wrist and polish the feed ramps. Good guns.

I'm leaning towards ammo as Wolf is known to have hard primers, but usually the AK spring handles them well. May just need a new spring. Can you take a picture of you bolt face with the firing pin showing?
-
Looks pretty good. You might just have had some bad ammo. How many rounds have you run through your AK?

Who is the go to AK smith around Nashville?
Smith replied to Hiker's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
In my experience there aren't any in Nashville that know much about AK smithing. That being said, anything you need done is VERY easy to do yourself. Just let us know what you need specifically and many can walk you through it. You can also bring it by D&T and I'd be more than happy to show you in person. -
Ammo. Are you getting light strikes or something else? I'm not sure what you mean by the case being indendented.
-
Pictures would be nice. You may need to adjust the firing pin or get a new one all together. The other possibility is a new hammer spring.

Have we lost manufacturing in the US, or have we lost management
Smith replied to MacGyver's topic in General Chat
If we aren't using "bottom line thinking" what should we be using? Bottom line thinking is the only thing bailing the water out of our sinking boat. It's hard for US buisness to compete with China AND the US government. Highest tax rate in the world ..... Good ole USA. -
Have we lost manufacturing in the US, or have we lost management
Smith replied to MacGyver's topic in General Chat
Technically we manufacture more now in the US than ever before. However, the nature of US manufacturing has changed. It is true that traditional maufacturing (auto, electronics, etc.) have moved but medical, pharmaceutical, etc has greatly increased. It is true that a lot of the manufacturing we do in the US now takes far less personal than the more traditional jobs of the past for the reasons in the article. So while productivity is up, the jobs are down or specialized. All that to say, it's not exactly apples to apples to cry the decline of US manufacturing. -
Yep, already been there!
