    VEPR!!!!

The stock actually fits and feels really nice. If I every get the cash to get a .308, I'll leave it on that one. I have an extra ACE skelton stock on a folding hinge sitting in the closet that I'm going to put on this. Carolinashooterssupply has a internal reciever block adapter that works for these. I'll have the pics up tonight with the stock and adapter.
  2. How bout this. Quit spending the huge bucks for tickets, so these guys can stop quiblling over how many millions they all get to "make" and return it to a time when every family could afford to go see a game every now and then and players, coaches, refs, did it for the love of the game instead of the "Brand".

    VEPR!!!!

Ohhhhhhh these are NICE! I'm just a little excited. One that Centerfire had them on sale for $499 and two how incredibly beautiful these things are. The wood is very nice and finished very well and I'm tempted to leave the wood on this one, but I won't. It desires to be a military gun. I'll leave the wood on the .308! The gun itself is beautiful. It truly is the Cadilac of the AK world. Hardly any machine marks, bolt and carrier are the best finished I've ever seen on an AK (Saiga's included) and the action is butter. It is a bit heavy (8 lbs. with wood furniture) but the trade off is a heavey RPK (1.6mm) reciever, and a heavy barrel. Unlike some of the other v.1 VEPR's this one does no have the barrel threaded or plunger dilled. However, that is easy to remedy. The VEPR's use the RPK rear sight. On the inisde it has a round front trunnion (for bullet guide) and uses a retaining plate instead of the wire shepherds crook. All pluses IMO. The only negative is that the single hook trigger is not as good as the Tapco G2, but again easy remedy. At the original $650+ these are going for these are worth every penny. At $499, i couldn't let it go. Even the box is nice (for a Russian AK Box ) RPK resr sight is much nice than Saiga neutered sights. Front end view.

    AK47 Art

It's a shame so many beautiful AK's were ruined by the artist.
  5. American Classic is Metro Arms out of the Phillipines. Bersa does not make one. As to the poly frame 1911, BUL in Israel made one which Kimber tried to Import under their name. I think CD also brought in the BUL under their name after Kimber tried.
  6. That was a tongue in cheek comparison. I was over simplifying P=MV. My original statement was assuming a certain velocity is needed to move a certain mass to effective ballistics. If you take too much velocity from the 9mm you negate it's mass and thus you get what I called a "heavy .380" . .45's overcome their deficiency in velocity by using more mass. It works on the same principal but from the complete opposite direction. That's why effectiveness is nearly identical (in SD rounds) between a .45 and a 9mm. I believe we are agreeing?
  7. Actually pretty good price. Defensive ammo is generally around $1 a round. I shoot off my current self defense rounds once a year and then get new stuff. Other than that I shoot FMJ at the range.
  8. IIRC this was most prominent in the older variety of Hydrashok. If it is still an issue, 9mm would be better but I doubt with modern ammo it it's as big an issue
  9. Gotta love the Vickers sling. My favorite is the Wilderness Tactical Giles sling
  10. Supposedly that's what we pay taxes and elect leaders to do. It's also what funds the check you asked to get when you signed up voluntarily for the job. So yes, when folks say "we" they mean "we" in the sense that it was properly inteded to mean. The military is the armed extension of the American people whose job it is to do what the American people ask of it. It is not an us and them. It is a "we the people."
  11. That is awesome. Didn't have to cut welds?
  12. Is that shroud pinned on? threads under there or just barrel?
  13. There's no extra paperwork. Problems arise when there is an issue with the gun, shipping, or some other issue and the FFL gets stuck in the middle. It's a no win if there is a problem because the propensity of the customer getting scammed can be high and then the FFL is stuck with a gun he can't transfer, return, or sale. Technically when the gun is transferred in it belongs to the FFL until it is transferred out. When it's transferred from an FFL, if there is an issue it can simply be returned to the sending FFL. That can't be done with an individual and the receiving FFL tends to end up being the bad guy.
  14. Also, TICS is simply a middle man. The state found a way to get 3-4 million dollars a year by charging $10 to run a background through the FREE NICS system. I can't believe every state hasn't figured it out. Regardless of the sentiment, TICS tries to get approvals. They want people running checks so that they keep getting checks.
  15. Unique personal identification number. It is issued by the FBI for folks with very clear identity issues. Such as if your name happened to be Chuck Manson. lots of hoops and I've only seen one person who had one. It is a four digit number which leads me to believe they don't issue many.
  16. D&T has the CMMG conversion kit and can walk you through all the mods your mind can think of.
  17. Not so much in a .22 plinking gun.
  18. Having handled all of them the M&P is by far the best. I like it better than the SIG because its manual of arms is identical to an AR. The SIG is rather big and bulky for what it is. Yes the M&P uses specific mags, but they are easy to find and around $25. You can also put a Slide Fire on it for when you really want to have fun! Outside of that, the HK MP5 22 (not the GSG)is the best built one of all of them. It is an MP5 chambered in .22.
  19. Here's a couple more I like. They are getting a little old, but still interesting. http://frag.110mb.com/ http://stevespages.com/page8f9mmluger.html
  20. You better watch yourself. If you want a high maintance troophy wife that has to have platic surgery every 5 years to still look decent ... get an AR. If you want the girl next door that just gets better with age ... get the AK. Yes, they look sexy and if you disagree .. they will kick you tail!
  21. What exactly are you disagreeing with? Muzzle energy in a 147g drops by 30-100 ft lbs. as opposed to 124g/115g and velocity generally drops 200-300 ftps across the board. Applying .45 ballistics to 9mm doesn't translate. Ballistically it's turning a 9mm into a heavy .380 ACP. There is some excellent 147g stuff out there but "generally" they are not the better option. BTW - I don't have a problem carrying any of them. Just making an analytical point. Just a couple quick ones. http://www.ballistics101.com/9mm.php http://www.ballistic...com/9luger.html
  22. In a 9mm handgun the 147g generally don't do well. They were developed for submachine guns and not for shooting out of modern handguns. The 9mm works best with a good balance of weight and velocity, which the 124g +p is about as good as it gets. The 9mm needs a certain amount of velocity to get all the good benefits of the 9mm and the 147g generally scrubs too much velocity. HST, Gold Dots, Ranger T's are my favorites. I'll also use the Hornady 124g Critical Duty because it's cheap and everyone has it when i can't get the better stuff.
  23. Most of the folks at TICS are very nice. There is one lady, which sounded like who you got, that is that way no matter what. Keep in mind that one office process every single background check in TN and sometimes they are very busy. They get a lot of calls and they by law can not give out information without verifying identity. If they did that for all the denials statewide they would never get the checks done. It's tough, but be patient. They will get it back.
  24. Since I'm waiting on the paperwork This is a mock-up of where I'm going with the Draco. I think I'm going to like it. It's fun without the stock but the stock will make it a lot easier to handle. The TWS rail is awesome. I've used them a lot and they are the way to go. With the peep sight the sight radius is 4" longer than a standard AR. Love it!
