Which do you prefer 9mm or 38 special for SD?
Smith replied to RAJBCPA's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
9mm is a better round than .38spl. People like to compare the because they are the same diameter, but there really isn't a comparison in standard loads. -
Love hi-powers. My first gun was a FEG HJK-9HP. Nearly identical clone of a Browning/FN for a lot less. Great shooter and if you come by one for around 300 you can't go wrong. I've had my share of Browning s and FN's and I always felt bad shooting them and carrying them because they were too nice. The FEG our Argentinean copies solve that issue and are functionally great.

Yep, have one of the best warranties that don't exist!

I thought in TN the attorney General appoints judges (at least sc) without oversight. My understanding was that this amendment gives us more control because the legislature can check appointees, much like in the federal level.

She was a great friend of my wife and kids. Rocked my kids, especially my youngest, many times in the nursery. Great, great lady. She will be missed.

I used the Levang on the MSAR's I had because they were so loud. Really helped get the sound down range. Kinda worked like a reverse suppressor :). Made the recoil a little more pronounced but it was linear and had very little muzzle rise or twist. Really liked them in that application. That being said I tried a knockoff on an AR and didn't like it at all. However, I think that had more to do with the poor design of the knockoff than the principle of a linear comp. The KX3 is an expensive version of the Krink booster and those do work well. They aren't so much linear comps as they are mini cans.

PPQ kydex paddle holster. Harder to find than you think.
Smith replied to Steelharp's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
A lot of P99 holsters will fit the PPQ. Can't beat the Garrett Holsters. Pricey, but the only holster I've had that I couldn't find something I disliked about it. http://www.giholsters.com/belt-holsters-owb/ -
My newest project, Mini Draco

Good choice on the damage brake. Great brake at a better price. The SLR is slightly shorter IIRC. -

Actually like the saiga forearm in that. It'd look good and function better with a Manticore Nightbrake or a SLR brake http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=94&product_id=57 -
So, I was right all along Mr. Rightwinger! =-O

Yes, They are much louder with the shorter barrel as well as a lot more flash.
-
Well I don't know much about the AR side of it but in the AK the barrel length is relatively irrelevant. You get nearly the same ballistics at useful ranges no matter what barrel length as long as you stay with the x39. That being said I prefer nothing shorter than 10". Main reason is getting useful furniture below that length is a custom made project. There are a variety now of furniture, gas tubes, sights, ect that are designed around the "krink" and AKM (Draco/AK). I personally don't care for 5.56 or 5.45 in the shorter lengths because it really affects the ballistics once you get below 14" or so.

Tighten barrel nut with no vise?
Smith replied to TNMTBik3r's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I've done it with by holding it between my knees as a vise using towels as pads and by standing on it and tightening it. Both of which I do not recommend unless you just have to have it done now. ;) Find a vice and do it right. -
Updated :: Mini Draco Install / Keymod Rail and SB15 Mounted
Smith replied to plank white's topic in Show and Tell
I'm not a fan of the mini's but that looks really nice. BTW - never buy anything direct from ACE. Carolina Shooters Supply, Bonesteel, and CNC Warrior are the only places I buy from anymore. -
Pops us right. The black finish us not the Tennifer. Tennifer is a salt nitride bath that impregnated the steel down below the surface. Even if you took all the black finish off the Tennifer world remain. Unless you actually remove metal down to an unsafe level you wouldn't effect the Tennifer. Cerakoting a Glock our any other Tennifer/Melonited gun simply adds an improved finish (over factory finish) to the treated components. BTW -Tennifer/Melonite has no color.

I can't say enough good things about the PPQ. Same size as the G19 with far better ergonomics and the best trigger in a DA striker fired gun I've ever felt. Even with other guns trigger jobs the PPQ is better IMO. As far as carry, the love I have for the PPQ has me looking at the Walther CCP. The CCP employs a recoil system much like the P7.

I think your spell check changed "reliable" to "rattle". Silly computers. ;)

Here the AR guys go trying to make their AR's like an AK again! Looks like a Saiga!

The true genius of Obama is that here many of his opponents sit still blaming, vilifying, and analyzing Bush as the source of all Obama's faults. He just may actually be the devil incarnate ;-) Every president inherits a unique world and I don't hold them responsible for what they inherit. However, they should be responsible for the decisions they make in response to that world.

Who has a bonesteel or stormwerkz folder?
Smith replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have had quite a few Ace stocks and currently have a Bonesteel on my Vepr. The Bonesteel is far better than the Ace. It locks up nicer, tighter, and has a thinner profile. The Ace is very good and I have two of them currently on various AK's. I do like that they are shorter in OAL but will get a bit of wobble when they aren't tucked into the shoulder. I've never had any issues with the Ace stocks and wouldn't hesitate to use them, but the Bonesteel is a better setup all around. Tighter and more solid, but I do like the versatility of the Ace setup and ATM it has more stock options. Bonesteel is working on interchangeable stock options that will be nice, but not as adaptable as the Ace IMO. -
Well, I guess the irony is that I'm now a non-conformist/rebel. I refuse to get a tattoo or piercing simply because everyone seems to have them and it is the "in" thing to do. I figure anything I do to try to fit in with some culturally relevant issue or fad is controlling me and expressing a cultural message as opposed to expressing my individuality or will. I really feel for the guys (or gals) who got them to be non-conformist and have now been nearly negated by the culture they were trying to differentiate themselves from. I guess the age old principle of letting who you are be represented by your character and name is still the most true individualistic expression one can display.

any ak builders in Knoxville Morristown area?
Smith replied to csc8569's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Don't know of local guys that can personally walk you through but if Troy at InRange is taking work again, he can't be beat. Here are a couple links to jigs and tools you can use to do your own. Robert Forbus is local here in Nashville and you can get him on the phone and he will be a world of help. Essentially all you need in addition to the jigs is a 12 ton press (or better). Even a cheap one from Harbor Freight, a bolt cutter (for rivets), and welding set-up. http://ak-builder.com/ http://www.tothtool.com/ http://robertforbus.com/Kalashnikova_Tools.htm http://akbuildingtools.com/ Also AK builder has some helpful links than can walk you through most of it. ie http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=13 -
I've always loved the look of the Rhineland wood. Made me want to get another gun just to have one of the SVD stocks. Very Nice!

Can anyone refer me to an HONEST mechanic near me in Donelson
Smith replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in General Chat
Yeah, Car Doctor. He just did some work for me. Great guy and he's fair. You'll recognize him. He used to come in D&T when you worked there. -
Custom AK-74 Built by Bret of N.E.G. (Never Enough Guns)
Smith replied to Fitty%'s topic in General Chat
No. It's not magnified so it doesn't affect sight picture. The benefit is that you get a wider field of view because the optic body is not so close it blocks out the side field of view as much. The drawback is that it puts a little more weight out front and AK's tend to be a bit front heavy as is.
