  1. Hyosung actually developed the SV650 for Suzuki. Suzuki then built it and Hyosung imports it for their 650's. I did find that the Hyosung runs higher RPM's like a sports bike and that it is not harder on the engine than any other engine.
  2. Sure is refreshing that this isn't Europe! Animals are property even though many of us have emotional connections that transcend any other property we have. I would kill the dog, but there would probably issues after the fact from the other owner, so be careful.
  3. I think you will find that no matter how thorough the course this would still be a little hazy. The laws are just to gray and numerous. congrats and have fun waiting. Shoot a lot in the mean time.
  4. reading the thread title alone brought too many jokes to my mind.
  5. Congrats! Just watch put for all the people who aren't watching for you! Have fun and enjoy.
  6. I usually carry mine in a shoulder bag (no not a man purse!). After my wreck I think I will almost always carry this way when riding. It would have been really bad for me and my gun if it had been on my hip. Concealed means concealed and don't break a law you don't want to answer for.
  7. Actually I have my dad's old Winchester lever .22 that was his dad's (in mint condition despite being used quite a bit!), as well as my grandfather's 30-30 Savage bolt action (also in excellent condition) that is about 60+ yrs old. It is what I have always used to hunt with in AR till I got my 6.8 SPC. I also have my dad's 357 Rossi revolver. He doesn't keep them so i get to!
  8. Absolutely love it. It is my favorite gun to shoot. It is one with the SFS system that works great, no hammer bite! I used to have a 9mm and the .40 has a little heavier slide, which i think is a benefit. Many of the experts (C&S etc.) say the ticket to get with the Hi Power is a .40 with a 9mm conversion barrel. Mainly to handle the higher pressure 9mm loads better and a little less felt recoil. I have the EFK 357 SIG barrel and it works great as well. I also installed the C&S wide combat trigger and it made a huge difference in weight of pull and the smoothness of the pull. BTW - the grips are from Esmeralda. They are a little different than the usual utilitarian look I go for, but I like them as well. I also have some C&S Cocobolo grips as well.
  9. +1, but they tend to be older military guys who can actually kill you before you see them!
  10. Just curious, I just reached an odd place in my life. I am perfecctly content with my firearm collection. Nothing I would ever want to sell/trade and nothing really gnawing at me to pick up. I mean sure there are a few pieces i would like to have, but nothing i couldn't live without. Is there something wrong with me? do i need help or am I complete? FYI - here's my inventory 1. Walther P99 2. FN Hi-Power .40 S&W with a 357 SIG conversion barrel. 3. Ko-Tonics 6.8 SPC on a Sabre lower 4. Saiga AK 7.62x39 converted to AK-10 5. Saiga 12g being converted (what I hope it looks like)
  11. I would usually use that same Twain quote to respond to this, but you did it so well!

    SAIGA ?

Nah, it is one sold by Mississippi Auto Arms http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=25_31 that has been discontinued. The ultimak mounts on the gas tube.
  13. One thing I can't figure out is the dyno shows the Hyosung 650 gets 68 HP (claimed 72) at the rear wheel where the V-Star 650 turns 33 HP at the rear wheel. You have to go up to a 1100 V-Star to get close to the Hyosung. I know there is a difference in torque and running RPM's, but what gives? That's a pretty big gap.
  14. Yeah I know, I start the MNPD in June and will have to carry a G22! At least if i do like it, I can use the excuse that I HAVE to carry it. One of my friends said when he started they gave him what looked to be like a confiscated G22 that hadn't been cleaned in 10 yrs as his issue weapon. He said he gave it a good CLP bath and brought it back to life.
  15. Yeah! that's the "classic" model and a good looking bike at that. I may have to look into those.
  16. The 250 cruisers go by Aquila, Cruiser, Alpha, & Avitar. I think it depends on the market and importers.
  17. I should have added that I'm pretty much against Harley's. Just a personal thing kinda like why I don't want a Glock. I guess it's the rebellious side in me. Resale is not all that important to me as I intend to drive the wheels off the thing. The thing I like about the Hyosung is the 2 yr no questions asked warranty. Does anyone know how the V-star compares to the Hyosung, other than brand differences?
  18. As many of you know, my first bike was destroyed and am looking to get a replacement. Being new to moto's I've read about all I can and am not to hung up on brands, so here is the criteria. I want a cruiser style of at least 650 cc's, in the $6500 range. I really like the Hyosung GV650. I know how some feel about this brand, but what are some other options that are comparative? Thanks.
  19. Personally I don't like them. The reason for that is personal perception: 1. Ugly 2. I hate the grip angle 3. they can go off. I know, not if you keep your finger off the trigger, but....it happens. 4. Polygonal rifling. I just don't think it outweighs the cons. 5. The Glock Nation. This is perhaps the biggest for me. Maybe it's a little picky, but to me it's like when in High School everyone is saying what the best shoe is and if you don't have them you are somehow inferior. Glocks seem to be the popular crowd and I tend to like things that go against the grain as long as it's quality. For instance start a Glock thread and state a negative, the koolaid drinkers will come out in force. Right or wrong this just irritates me. Every gun has pro's and con's. Just my .02
  20. I personally think it has a lot to do with excellent marketing. they have cornered the market and made the name larger than life. To me they are kinda like Microsoft. Are there better programs out there, absolutely, but none of them have the market presence of MS. For the vast majority of average folks, they do what it they need to do. Not with the greatest efficiency or best design, but enough to not raise to many complaints from the uninformed to displace their name.
  21. Afraid I won't have any. Went to see it today and it looked pretty bad. Exhaust, gas tank, front end, front fender, etc. were all beat up pretty good. The insurance co has it now and the lawyer said i won't see it again.
  22. If by small you mean it will fit her hand, I would go with a Hi-power. combine the weight with a small grip and there is very little perceived recoil. I have one in 40 S&W and it has less felt recoil than my Walther P99 or former XD9 and FNP9. Not to mention it is a proven design. The Walther P99 is also an excellent gun for smaller hands and a joy to shoot.
  23. I might add that the UM/Hyosung have two year bumper to bumper warranties. My thinking was for the price and warranty etc. spending the extra cash on a name wasn't worth it. Plus you get free gas for a year. Ignore the name slaves. If you're getting a high dollar bike, sure, resale is a factor, but for gas, commuting, etc. the UM/hyosung can't be beat. Esecially when you factor in the double up on HP, warranty, etc. Here is a couple of reviews. The only difference in the 650's and 250's is engine. http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/hyosung-gt650r-review-75270.html Here is a comparison of 250 cruisers (name brands included) http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/250cc_cruiser_comparison/index.html As far as the "rumor" about Hyosung and Suzuki partnership, S&T (Hyosung Parent Co) details it on their website. It originated in the 70's.
