  1. Update. Got the side charging LRBHO upper. NFA's solution is pretty ingenious and simple. I haven't used it with live fire, but just playing around with it, it works will. I did have to bend the lever a bit to get enough leverage. I was a bit concerned how it would hold up long term, but as of now I don't think that will be a problem. Only "problem" I see so far is that due to the lever not having constant tension when the empty mag is removed, the BHO can be disengaged by bumping the receiver. Not major, but something to be aware of.
  2. I built it. This is the second Aero m5 receiver set I've used, so it was a little easier this go round. The big key to the 308 is an adjustable gas block. The GB lets you ignore the issues caused by not having the buffer/buffer spring tuned just right. The Anderson and SLR both let you adjust the setting from the front. That's a big deal. Otherwise, you have to take the handguard off to tune the GB. In my experience an adjustable gas block is the difference between a finicky unreliable gun and a reliable AR308. Aero M5 receivers Aero charging handle, hinge/take down pins, bolt catch KAK 18" SS barrel (midlength) Anderson adjustable GB UTG Pro Slim 13" rail AIM nitride BCG Larue APEG grip MFT stock DPMS 308 buffer spring Radical arms 308 buffer Damage Industries brake (drilled two extra ports on top) Just added a RRA NM trigger
  3. Finally got the Aero M5 308 out to the range. Always love shooting the 308. Very easy to get the Anderson adjustable gas block set up. It adjust from the front, ala SLR's (the best), but cost a lot less. Don't have to take the handguard off to adjust either. Bushnell 4-12 AR BDC dialed in great. Got to do a something with the trigger. Had light primer strikes. Probably due to the JP springs. Gonna get a RRA NM. The KAK barrel ran great! Ran some extra Wolf steel case I had laying around. I figure if I can get that to run, anything will. Here is 10@100 yrds off hand with a bipod. The flyers were all me, but at least I was consistent in my flinching! [emoji2] It was pretty windy as well.[emoji6]
  4. No, he just has less ability to hide it. [emoji6] If it weren't for the mag situation, I would have gotten one the cz58's when they first started coming in.
  5. That is correct. New Frontier makes these. They make them for Joe Bob under the "Spartan" logo. They also make them for "Runner Runner Guns" out of Texas. The only differences are the roll marks. The NFA logo is a giant billboard and not my taste. I preferred the Spartan and Joe Bob is probably the easiest one stop place to get all the pieces for that build.
  6. Well just spent some time at the range and I'm tickled pink! Ran flawlessly. Mags dropped free and loaded easily, both Glock factory and KCI (Korean) 33rnd mags. Full mags loaded easily even with a closed bolt. Only had two FTF but that was ammo related. Primers were struck well, just were stubborn. I went through 200 rnds of Herter's brass cased. Even if the LRBHO upper doesn't work, it's still a winner IMO. Very happy with the Spartan lower and KAW Valley 8.5" barrel. Here's 100 rnds off hand both eyes open rapid fire at 25 yards. I know some of you shoot pistols better but I was happy!
  7. That's kind of the hard part. Everywhere is out of them. I filled out a notify by email request with Joe Bob Outfitters and didn't expect to hear anything for awhile, but the lowers popped up the next day every so briefly. Figured I'd grab it while it was there. The uppers still aren't in stock anywhere ATM.
  8. Will do. NFA is approaching it a little different. Initial word is pretty good. Well see.
  9. I liked my last one, but it was a colt mag variety. Was curious to try a Glock version and since I have a bunch of Glock mags and no Glock, the Spartan grabbed my attention. Probably gonna pick up the matching upper with LRBHO when they come available again. New Frontier makes these, but I hate their roll mark billboard. The Joe Bob Spartan looks better. So far I like it. Updated with current build parts. The beefier Spartan billet side charging upper wouldn't work with the UTG handguards, so I went with the Samson Evo's. Really like the feel of the Samson's. I also like that the Samson fits on an existing barrel nut. Makes it easy if you already have a standard barrel nut. I didn't but I still like the idea for the future.
  10.   I believe he is referring to the bold portion. According to DS they are not handling the process after all.
  11. It has all the signs of a misaligned barrel in the trunnion. I've seen plenty of canted sights and if a mallet can't fix them, the gun is not spec. Even by Russian standards. Your issue is not canted sights. Can you get a picture with the handguards off looking down the receiver and barrel mid line? If it's as bad as it looks, it should be pretty evident a barrel issue.   You would think the shop would take care of this for the customer and force Century's hand. I know working in a shop that the store can get more from Century than the consumer.
  12. Only fix is to drive out the pins realign the sight, re-drill the pin channels slightly larger, and then get some oversized pins. Apex, use to have some. I've even seen Arsenals come this way and it is unacceptable for any AK, especially if it cost more than $450
  13. Yes, I've used them a lot, especially on Saiga 12's. Great red dots, hold up well.
  14. I have one in the PEBR QD and it is fine but big and heavy compared to a Larue or my choice the ADM. The Primary Arms one piece mounts are good on the low end.
  15. Right now psa has the Burris AR PCL at a ridiculous price. I have three and they are great at double the price. http://palmettostatearmory.com/bushnell-ar-optics-1-4x-24mm-throw-down-pcl-ar91424i.html
  16. You paint with a broad brush, and theologically incorrectly one at that, Christians to make a point that Christians should not paint Muslims with a broad brush. Interesting. How did Christians get brought into this anyway? There was no mention of that in the OP.
  17. Except the base tenants of Old and New Testament teachings completely disagree with you. The Bible teaches to give to Caesar what it's Caesar's, to submit to the governing authorities, regardless of who they are while maintaining your faith, and to live at peace with everyone if possible. Diametrically at odds with the base tenants of Islam. Your apologist morally equivalency is more than just a little wrong.
  18. Haha, I miss these discussions! In all seriousness, I started with the AR's because they got dirt cheap for a while and they are easy for the kids to handle. Made them all their own and a .22 for cheap shooting. Works great for those purposes.
  19. Yeah, efficiency and simplicity are usually hard for AR guys to figure out. [emoji6] Keep trying RW. You'll make it eventually. Haha
  20. Haha, you should read her website. It all comes together there. ;)
  21. I used this when I first started, thorough and very helpful. https://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/
  22. Here's an update on the second upper I got. Identical to the first but PSA must have read this post, because the barrel nut on this one was very tight!
  23. The really only "bad" AK is an American made one. That is usually because the barrel bore is over or undersized based on American calibers, bad heat treating, or bad riveting. Typically, the smaller the operation the bigger the likelihood of a screw up. Ironically, American AKs tend to have a hard time specing correctly. I believe that has to do with the difference in manufacturing cost of the former Soviet Union and the U.S.
