Unless you are just desperate for money, I wouldn't sell it to a gun store. You won't get very much for your gun. I'd keep it or sell it FTF. IIRC you can sell a gun FTF as long as you aren't the buyer. The stipulation is on the buyer not the seller.

Ah, that's a lot of money. I guess I confused some of your post with the other guys talking about PVC/heat gun oven stuff. I think I'll stick with letting someone else do it for me. I'd have to refinish a LOT of guns to recoup that. Thanks.

Hydrashok in and of itself is a very outdated bullet. It clogs pretty badly form everything I've read. It was cutting edge 20 yrs ago but has since been surpassed. Not that it's bad, but there are better rounds out there. The speed of technology is kinda why these discussions never end. 147g used to have problems due to low velocity, but it appears the manufactures have overcome those deficiencies. This is the same reason you still get guys who will swear up and down the 9mm is vastly inferior to a .45. They are basing it on military studies of FMJ from WWI.

I'd been reading about makeshift ovens and other equipment and it started looking like it would all add up pretty quick, even using some of the cheaper options available. I was just curious what it all took and what it would cost. Looks like it would be better and cheaper to get someone like yourself with all the equipment and experience already in place to do it. Especially just for an AK every now and then. I figured I could do all the painting and curing, but the sandblasting and parking is totally foreign to me. BTW - I'm in no hurry. My Saiga is down with Red Jacket getting the front end worked over. He said he'd do it for $125 (blast, park, and paint) which is starting to look like a pretty good deal. I just thought I might like to try it if it didn't cost too much for the start up.

So who exactly would qualify for input then? Very few LE have FH knowledge and then it is only the department round. Military can't say becasue they have zero FH experience with modern hollowpoint design. so we are left with gelatin test and reports in which we all have access to. So I guess you could say we who have internet hyperbole, gunrags, and LE data have the only real data available. However the few FH accounts we have discounts your "nothing is better than JHP in .45 auto." Marshall and Sanow/Fairbairn and Sykes addressed that many many years ago.

Since some equate good with the highest price what kinda of money is one looking at for the necessary equipment and which coating is best. IIRC David, you didn't start with high end professional equipment. So is it worth it to go that route for one gun or not. I didn't think my question was so unclear. I searched through and found threads and many of the various aspects of refinishing, but if I wanted to DIY what would I need from start to finish? I'm talking about a Saiga AK in a simple satin black. Gunkote, Cerakote, Molyresin, tools, equip, cost? Anyone local want to do it for me? BTW I want the best, cheapest possible. If it's cheaper to DIY I will. If it is more cost effective to have someone else do it I'd rather do that. The shops I know and have done things in the past run $90-$120.

Could be a bit excessive. Judge could have just dismissed her or a number of other things .... assuming the story goes as the girl said, unlikely however. I can almost guarantee there is more to the story. If her account is accurate then very well could be an ego tripped judge. With power comes responsibility and not all manage that responsibility well.

strick, in theory I agree that Judges may have too much leeway and authority in some cases. For instance I think Judge Judy is a total jerk who uses her position to flaunt her ego. However, there has to be some strict governing authority in a court room. It just so happens the constitution and the law has determined that to be a judge. As one who works depositions, I can tell you that lawyers, defendants, the prosecution will play on the very edges of civility. Winning is more important than principal in most cases. Right - not always, but that's the way the founding fathers saw fit to structure things and to give judges the authority and governance in a court of law. If they weren't strict it can get out of hand very quickly and then you have another OJ trial. That whole debacle was a prime example of a judge that lost control over the court room and when that happens just becomes a sideshow.

Things politicians LOVE, which is what Serpas is. Problem is since most of the LE is stopping cars on the highway the more heinous crimes start slipping through. I would much rather patrols be deterring crime with presence in high crime areas as opposed to random road stops. Same theory as random road blocks.
