What tools do I all need for putting together a ar 15?
Smith replied to starncannon's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
A towel! Put it over your head when installing detent pins and springs. Even with a detent install tool! As to reaction rods, I use the MI: https://www.arbuildjunkie.com/ar-15-reaction-rods-pros-and-cons-with-sotar/ I also use my Real Avid Master Bench block a lot. -
I never could find him again. I found him in a Lowes parking lot. Didn't have a phone number and I paid cash. Haha!

Best drywall guy I ever found was a pothead. He was an artist. Looked like he had just walked out of jail that morning and first thing he did was light up. He was able to float a major water damaged ceiling (6x8 ft) area that didn't match up with any current drywall (old house). We're talking 1/2"+ mismatches Did it all by hand with no sanding and it was level and flawless. Never seen anything like it.

I believe it's the RMR. The second post is another member with the same gun wearing a Holosun.

For what it's worth Walther does. However, the aftermarket plate is much better.

Weight specs arn't that far apart, which is interesting considering the materials. 24.7 oz. vs 30.0 oz.

From the pictures, I don't think the claim it was released back into the river was accurate.

Glad it worked easy for you and yes some idiot will push the limits and screw us all. I could see a Sovereign citizen scenario haha!

I alternate between a Taurus M85UL .38 for pocket carry, a G19, Strike 80 (G19 clone), and currently a Sig P365 xmacro. The Sig is getting most of the time from here on out. I much prefer the Garret Silent Thunder STX 2.0 holster for all OWB carry.

The ATF and "legal" is like the IRS. No matter how compliant you are, you will be in violation of some "rule". Good luck
-
It is and it's tiny.

You don't have to lie. Don't talk. Also, if you serialize it, you open a fresh can of laws you have to abide by. You are also now subject to direct inspection and stringent laws regarding compliance about transfer, books, etc. You think the first question is grey, you just moved deeper into the cloud. It's kinda like talking to the police. Once you start, you're legally broken. If you don't start talking you're much better off and under much less legal jeapordy.
-
It's really not that grey. You can sell anything you own. You can't build with the intent to sell (manufacture) without a serial number. If the ATF is after you for an 80% build that was in a private sell, you've got a whole world of other problems. The 80% would be the least of your issues.

Thanks, I had forgotten. However, It's still the same program he started. It's a good one.

Another option is to take Rifle Dynamics class. They provide the kits, parts, and tools and you build a Custom level AK. It's on my bucket list. I've built AK's before but this would be a great experience without the headaches. Cost about the same in the end. https://rifledynamics.com/classes/ If you still wanted to home build after, you would have a huge advantage on knowing what it would take.

You need a hydraulic press and jigs. Other than that, headspacing is the only difficult issue. Forbus is a local guy and been doing it a long time. https://robertforbus.com/Kalashnikova_Tools.htm. That being said, buying a kit and building an AK has become a ridiculously expensive project. You will loose a lot of money over buying even top tier if the shelf AK's.

I went and put a few rounds through it and I'm impressed. Made the Glock 19 feel like a huge cumbersome brick. Accuracy and shoot ability were exceptional. The porting really works.

So I went to the Gun Crew to checkout the much lauded P365. Looking for something smaller than my G19. I had always been a fan of the Kel-Tec PF9 size (except for the trigger) and thought this might work. After looking at the P365, XL, and Xmacro, it was hard to pass up the 17 rnds of the Xmacro. I've never been able to get comfortable on a sub-compact frame (G26, M&P, etc.) without adding grip sleeves and the such, so I usually ended up with the XL or Xmacro length anyway. After holding the XL and Xmacro there wasn't enough difference to go with the XL. Also, a big plus is the Xmacro optic cut. It is a much better redesign from the XL. Initially the Xmacro cost a bit more, but when I started adding in the grip modules, slides, barrels, etc. that I would inevitably get - the Xmacro came out ahead. There aren't a whole lot of holsters or mags available yet, but that is a patience thing. I'm told mags will be available by the first of the year (2023). However, with 2 17rnd mags I'm carrying 35 rnds in a smaller and lighter package than a G26 (15 more rounds) and more rounds than my G19 (4 more rnds) in a much smaller foot print! Not sure I need a whole lot more mags! I've also noted that usually, XL Kydex (molded) holsters will not fit the Xmacro due to the rail redesign. Hoping to get some rounds down range! BTW - The Gun Crew is selling the P365 Tac Pac for considerably less than anywhere else I've seen. In fact cheaper than the stand alone p365! They have a ton of every variety.

I understand, but you're stuck with their options. I prefer the Ace style. There's a bunch of stuff you can fit ont the back with a solid back plate with two drilled and tapped mounting holes. I don't dislike the WBP version, but given a choice, I'd stick with the better and more abundant aftermarket options.
-
I've added tubes and folding mechanisms to many AK's including pistols. I much prefer a solid back plate and then drill and tap for an adapter. That version seems like a limitation that is unnecessary.

Do the Uzi/MP5 way and use a sling tensioned as a support. Works extremely well. If it wasn't for braces, this is how it's best done. I like the Wilderness Tactical Giles 3 point sling, but a one point sling off the back works well. Google SAS sling method.

It sounds like the Endomag may be the ticket for you. There are 3 for sale in the classifieds for a good price.
