Anyone seen this powder yet? I read about it on the national forum a few weeks ago and then picked up the 2017 Hodgdon annual two days ago which has data for the new powder. I don't shoot .300 Blackout, but this powder is tailor made for it. Also suitable for several other calibers and the one that interests me is for 6.8. I currently load using AA2200 but am eager to get a pound of CFE BLK and compare the two loads. Supposed to be available in January so may be showing up on shelves very soon.

Greg, out of College Grove area? I'm not sure he is in the business anymore. Haven't seen or heard anything in close to 2 years now.

I looked closely at both of those before getting a good deal on a Burris FastFire III. The Venom has a top load battery, do not have to remove the sight to replace the battery. Viper you have to remove the sight, and could potentially see a minor impact shift after reinstalling. The buttons are also a bit different. The buttons on the Viper are just slightly larger. Another consideration would be if you want to setup cowitness height sights. The Venom has marks on the rear of the optic that can be used in place of a rear sight.

One thing I see different, mark forum as read is now mark site as read (top right corner of the page). I didn't catch the wording change and marked everything as read... Not a big deal, can still mark each section as read by clicking the chat icons to the left of the forum section heading. ETA - above is referring to the mobile version. Desktop has both mark forum and mark site as read options.

@monkeylizard I agree, the HD ad was already yanked this week. I'm not waking up early for anything, but one of those Rigid drills will be mine if the online sale is decent.

I don't really have anything on my list, but I'll keep an eye out in case a good deal shows up. I am buying an Inline Fabrication quick change mount and some other stuff from him. They run a 15% off coupon every year it seems. The only other Black Friday sales I am interested in is what Home Depot will list. I am looking for a new drill, and plan on a Rigid with their lifetime service agreement that includes batteries. My 7 year old Hitachi 18v drill has been great, but one battery won't hold a charge and the second is short lived. I can get a new drill for roughly the cost of a new Hitachi battery.

Very accurate powder, especially as you get towards the upper end of maximum book loads.

MGW is the way to go, I bought one recently myself after years of making do without. Get the 309S model for tall, straight side sights. It works on both straight and slant sided sights and can accommodate suppressor height as well. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/111366/maryland-gun-works-rear-sight-tool-glock-for-straight-sided-sights

You get what you pay for usually with optics. All comes down to what you are expecting and ranges you will shoot for. Personally, Vortex is as low end as I will ever purchase. I like bright, clear glass.

Heading Protection Recommendation

I ordered the Walker's Razor Slim and used them at the range today. They are being returned to Amazon tomorrow. Absolute garbage - no sound dampening at all. The mics work great, pick up a lot more than my Peltors do. But there is no dampening for any gun shots, whether I was the shooter or standing a couple of feet from someone else. My Peltor's dampen everything. -
I have no need for a spotlight right now, but for $30 why not. Ordered.

I planned on buying a couple extra primer tubes. For now, just going to leave setup for 9mm. I will get a conversion kit but don't need it right away, unless i come across another deal. I think the 2nd powder measure will make sense to buy - avoid any hassle with changing calibers. Or I find a load that works with both calibers.
-
I just found a complete in box SDB 9mm setup for a really good price on another forum. Early Christmas present for me I guess.... I only load 9mm and .45ACP in handgun calibers, so may end up getting a caliber conversion kit for the .45 in the near future. I also have to figure out where/how to mount this press - may be time to get an Inline Fab quick detach mount. I know Dillon has their No BS warranty so if anything breaks I am good. But what do I need to know about the SDB, anything worth buying to keep on hand (extra primer tubes and maybe the small parts kit I assume)? How easy is the powder measure to dial in - should I get the quick change setup that includes an extra powder measure when I get the caliber conversion? I will probably throw up a WTB ad in the classifieds section soon to see if anyone has a conversion kit or other parts I could use.

Heading Protection Recommendation

I had one of the Howard Leight Impact - they worked fairly well but did not fit me well so they ended up sold. I bought a Peltor Tac 100 at Home Depot for about $45 one year and they have been great. They run about $65 now but I am tempted to buy a second pair. I need a second pair right now - my other earmuffs are passive protection only. I want an electronic pair to keep in both of my range bags though. I am eyeing the Walkers Razor Slim - anyone here use a set and have opinions how they stack up with the Peltor? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AAH8CRU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3F4C3YMFNYUUQ&coliid=I327NTC9HC9BM1&psc=1 ETA - I would like to try the Walkers Razor X but not quite willing to pay that much right now since it is a want, not a need. These do not fit over your head and would not interfere with a rifle stock (as even the slim muffs can do). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GUB2T1K/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3F4C3YMFNYUUQ&coliid=I4M6EMOOBMMNU -
Any reloaders in Columbia/Pulaski/Spring Hill
TNMTBik3r replied to leafinthewind's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I'm in Columbia. I have no problem with talking to you about reloading and have several manuals for reference, but I am not liable for any loads that may be developed.- 1 reply

Endomondo is what you are looking for. I use it for mountain biking, has a bunch of activities including kayaking. Distance is tracked through your phones GPS. I have used other apps but really like this one. It has free friend tracking (a paid feature in most other apps) that I use to allow my wife to see my location while I am riding if something were to happen on the trail. It also syncs with my Fitbit.

Gauging Interest - TGO Logo Stainless Steel Tumbler

My two just showed up (20 and 30). Thanks David! If we get an order of these together again I want another 20oz! -
Watching the news, reported the driver was shooting into the crowd, swerving to hit people, and truck was packed with explosives and other weapons. If the explosives part is true then very good did not get a chance to blow them and take more lives. If weapons were in the back I wonder if they were intended for someone to grab and join the carnage - police may have stopped him before getting to a rally point? There will be a bunch of WAG for a few days until something else distracts the media.
-
Just saw this a few minutes ago while checking news. Damn.... 77 dead per that report. Watched 2 videos, one showing the truck hit and the second showing some of the aftermath. Terrible. Trying to read some more of the reports but said the truck (driver, passengers?) were shooting at the crowd too?

The red does seem worse than the blue but the blue is flaking off as well.

I forget what the bake temp of this powder was but my small oven was set to that temperature and I verified it a few times I may not have verified the temp that day or maybe my timer was off, who knows now. I don't cast, no equipment for it, so may load a few and see how messy they are or try to find someone local who feels like spending the time to melt them down. It's about 800 bullets.
-
Digging through reloading components and organizing stuff, I discovered a bunch of .45 bullets I powder coated probably two years ago. At the time they looked and shot great (the couple hundred I loaded), but have been sitting in the garage since. Now a bunch of the powder coat has flaked/rubbed off. If I grab a handful there is flakes left in my hand as the PC continues to flake off. Were these not properly baked when I coated them? Like I said they seemed great at the time. Any way to fix them or OK to just load and shoot? I don't want to coat my mags/barrel with powder coat flakes. Could these be melted down and the powder coat skimmed off so the lead could be re-cast? The picture doesn't really show how flaky these are.

Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42MM
TNMTBik3r replied to TomUT07's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I just sold one a couple of weeks ago, sold the rifle and didn't need an extra scope. It is a great scope, as is basically anything Vortex. Glass was clear, scope tracked well, a great package at the price point. -

Got my shipping notice today. Expected by the 20th. -
If you are at Cabela's get the sellier & bellot primers. They usually have a sale for $20/k on that brand. I have been very happy with performance after several thousand rounds.
